This is gonna sound really petty, but I feel I'd probably be gassing up NASB2 more if people weren't acting like it renders the first game irrelevant or the only reason to go back to the first one is the cut characters.

My favourite piece of weird-Mario-lore-with-really-major-implications-that-is-never-discussed-again is easily the Super Happy Tree. I think the idea that matured Yoshis are inherently depressed unless they have a garishly late-90s-kidcore antidep-agent-spewing fruit plant in their proximity is very fascinating.

I love the 80s/90s Konami and Capcom licensed games for a lot of reasons - the genuinely solid gameplay, the accurate art and sound direction, the usually-mild (unless your name is "The Simpsons") yet wildly creative liberties taken with the source material, the connecting tissue between games of wildly different IPs (such as the Konami beat em up formula), the stories that have popped up years later about their development, their general historical value - but I think the main reason I love these games is because of the image of a team of Japanese game devs having to watch hours of Animaniacs episodes with American jokes for Americans they don't get because they're not American - both because that's a funny Coraline's-dad-at-computer image, but also because they still knocked it out of the park near-consistently anyway. (also the Eastern perception of Western IPs is just generally something that fascinates me, but that doesn't fit as smoothly into the sentence structure I started.)

I was gonna joke "imagine if a rhythm game character in Smash had only counters as their moveset", but I realised - like a lot of these "source accuracy amirite" posts - that would actually be kinda fun, at least if limited to just special moves, not what I'd want for PaRappa or a Guitar Hero/DDR rep, but I think that for a Rhythm Heaven character or a new swordfighter it'd be pretty neat.
If Pauline ever gets in Smash, I'd like for her to get the DK series symbol, if only because I feel like arcade-era DK is very slightly underrepped in Smash.

I want to try doing a "cut half the Smash roster" thing, but I don't think I could do so because most of the cuts I'd go for would be to make room for a replacement character (for example, Squid Sisters replacing Inkling), and I can't figure out how I'd communicate that in an image form, at least without replacing everyone I cut, especially if I use a tier list generator, and without context a lot of these cuts would seem deranged, even by my let's-cut-Pikachu!/Dingodile-should-get-in-before-Crash! standards.

i think the funniest thing about the reboot appocalypse is that they're now going back to putting "new" in show titles.
I just saw the words "AI generated GameShark" and thought it sounded like the coolest thing ever, an AI trained to make cheat codes that makes the most erratic, dumb versions of games, buuuut nope, it's just a premium version of the little fact boxes Google put on the top of their results.
Insane how Valve went from basically pioneering the "let's hire 'em!" approach to fan projects to pretending to be Nintendo so they could take down crossover fan projects.

I feel like Bandana Waddle Dee, as a Smash pick, isn't inherently terrible, but kinda just rendered irrelevant by two other picks: if you want a Wadde Dee, just put in a generic Waddle Dee! More alt variety, more Kirby games to draw the moveset from, and would be a second mook as opposed to another sidekick (Not that sidekicks are bad ofc, I love the option to play a sidekick solo, but not as much as the option to play as a mook). And if you want a small spherical character who spins and pole vaults with a long, non-sword weapon then there's a way cooler character in the Nintendo library who could do exactly that and more.
Peppino in Smash is a weird thing where, it's not like Crash where I like the game and character but cannot percieve a good moveset, but rather the concept just doesn't do anything for me, even though objectively he has a great moveset, his gameplay could adapt well within a Namco design style, he brings a style of humor never before seen in Smash, and he would be a monumental inclusion for a multitude of reasons (Not limited to Sephiroth and Mort the Chicken sharing a game), I just can't get myself excited about the idea of Peppino in Smash for some reason, perhaps it's how caught up I am in the belief that an indie rep should be a nobody, perhaps it's a COGH thing, perhaps it's that one of my first party MWs (Dashing Super Guy) fills a lot of niches Peppino does while also being a funne obscure pick, I really can't place my finger on it - no doubt I'd love it if he did get in though. -
