I love the idea of a Mario and Sonic crossover, but not just because of the whole historical/console war thing, but also because the idea of a blue-collar adult who's never let go of his childhood and a chilled-out teenager who wants to seem as mature as possible working together is quite sweet in a funny way. Like some weird alternate universe Goofy Movie that involves preventing multiversal destruction instead of going fishing.

Part of the reason I prefer an animated canon/Pixar-focused Disney fighting game over TVA or acquisitions comes from the fact that most of these characters have a very small amount of well-known source material, so you can make up a lot of original powers and weapons, but also have a lot of small side content like shorts and video games to source weird deep cuts from.

I'm watching a NASB 2 leaked roster rant, and the dude said "hey, this game is aimed at kids, why is it leaning so hard into nostalgia??" which is... valid, don't fully agree, but I understand the sentiment - but then he lost me when he listed off a bunch of shows from 2014.

Tuff Puppy and Harvey Beaks are so old now that the odds of a current-day SpongeBob/Loud House core fan who hasn't played any of the Nick nostalgia crossovers knowing them is probably even with Hey Arnold or Angry Beavers.

A lot has been said, especially by me, about how Nintendo fans mispercieve gaming history in Nintendo's favour, but honestly it's even more surreal how much Nintendo fans downplay the historical impact and popularity of a lot of legitimately important and iconic Nintendo games. Duck Hunt and Wii Fit are not "meme picks", the arcade-era DK games didn't just "lead to something bigger", Nintendogs is not a "minor IP", WarioWare is not "Wario Land's cheap spin-off", Tetris is the literal second best-selling game ever and Nintendo played a major role in its success but people act like Conker's Bad Fur Day (a game Nintendo all but sabotaged) is a bigger part of the company's history.

Fishbunjin in Smash is kind of a funny concept, not just because of the character being inherently funny and having the potential to bring along a lot of Slap and Ittle Dew's trademark weirdness and easter eggs, but also because he's a character who originated as a 101% completion secret boss - the most minor role imaginable - but is also a character that probably even the most staunch protagonists-first supporter could probably agree upon as being a better choice than Ittle herself, even if it is to represent a spin-off game that he happens to be a mascot of over his actual debut.

If there was a Waluigi game, I like the idea of it being a multiplayer game with an all-original cast a la Diddy Kong Racing where all the characters are E-rated parodies of different villain tropes. A dragon guarding his gold, a greedy oil tycoon, a masked slasher (of tomatoes), a 40s mobster, a cartoon predator animal, so on.

I stand by Puzzle League being the perfect game to attach Waluigi to - moreso than not only Pikachu and Yoshi, but also Lip herself - since it's an accessible, wits-based game where you get to be really annoying to your opponent.

I think that "Mortal Kombat can't be in Smash because the latest games are banned" is a reasonable argument from a likelihood standpoint, given that Smash picks (especially in DLC, where a Kombatant would likely be placed) are often meant to shill recent titles, but from a "can it happen at all" standpoint it doesn't really make sense since most legacy third party characters in Smash are based on earlier iterations, with Hero and maybe Sonic as the only outliers (even Steve kept his beard!), so they wouldn't have to research nor promote any banned games, even if not being able to do the latter could be a roadblock for Nintendo and/or WB.
