I think something that would go a long way in making people take the overall platform fighter genre seriously is another game that's based on an established IP but not a crossover.

I find it kinda funny how the push for retro-styled graphics mostly comes from younger developers, while people who developed or played games in the 8-/16-bit era are just kinda watching and scratching their heads.
I don't really understand why Smash fans are so obsessed with veteran revamps.
I don't know if anyone here, specifically of the Br*tish variety, remembers a show called "Chute!" - but basically, they aired memes on public television. That was the entire show. They even had Neil Cicierega's Potter Puppet Pals on it.
I think it is highly likely the next Smash game will try to focus more on competitive play (it's the only - or at the very least, least specific - audience that Ultimate can really be topped for; competitive players prefer having less matchups so it makes sense from a development/budget perspective; every other platform fighter is trying to appeal to this audience above all; and the content of the last few challenger packs like the hard CPUs and simple stages seems to be hinting at it like how a lot of Ultimate's content was hinted at in the last few DLC packs of 3DS & Wii U), but I don't really have confidence in Sakurai and his team pulling it off well.

They're probably in the right, but either way Johnny Depp supporters are really annoying.
I kinda like the idea of making some of the black box NES characters like Bubbles; ROB; and the Wild Gunmen (just without the guns) part of the Mario universe - not as special crossovers, but just new regular cast members.
Honestly I think the Iron Giant in MVS makes perfect sense - at least compared to his Ready Player One technically-cameo - since, unlike the vague "make your own story up" nature and exaggeratedly aggressive mascots of Smash, MVS is pretty explicitly a fun, silly sport in-universe with wisecracking characters trying to get a rise out of one another with no ill will.

" which may be the most depressing typo in my life both in terms of it happening and what it implies.
It's kinda wild how corporations do so much shady stuff that you can make up ridiculous allegations like "KFC puts rats in deep friers" or "Disney blatantly ripped off an anime" and not only have people near-universally believe you, but also move on with their day as if it's just a change in weather.
If we ever remove Wario Waft from SMSB, I'll probably do a job for a new, non-special, gross-out move for Wario.
They've given him a helicopter and motorcycle, they've pitted him against killer robots, so I think the natural next step for the Postman Pat franchise is the apocalyptic wasteland story: Post-Man Pat.
If Ashley got in Smash I'd want Red to play a heavy role in her moveset.

Two things that annoy me when it comes to music in creation threads are:
1. songs being added without considering if there's a fitting stage (particularly for things like Mario boss music)
2. Song additions being listed as remixes but not actually linking to remixes.
This won't make sense if you weren't around for the original credit card memes
Got around to watching the MVS teailer and... wow, still not confident about the gameplay but I wish Smash was this unabashedly silly and willing to show interactions.
The Models Resource will be getting tons of traffic once colour 3D printers become affordable, I can say that much.
Smash hype absolutely broke me so I appreciate the "hey, this guy's here too!" approach NASB and MVS are going for. Makes the reveals less special in the spectacle way, but a lot more special in almost every other way - when you're not being told a character is the most important moment in history since V-Day you can respect the picks you wouldn't have gone with much more.
I kinda feel that Corneria should have an equivalent in SMSB alongside Temple given it's kinda got the same "perfect casual stage" reputation, but its layout is so non-abstract and specifically based on Star Fox that it'd be nearly impossible to find an equivalent in the Mario universe. Like, you could probably reshape something like Penny's helicopter or a Sunshine Airport plane to fit, but it'd still be awkward and there aren't enough options to justify doing a whole stage job specifcally for Cornera.
I feel that Jenny's trailer for NASB should've used Shredder for the intro instead of Reptar - that'd give the reveals a bit of a canon, make more sense as Shredder is an actual villain and not an anti-hero adored by his show's protags like Reptar, and technically address fans' complaints about too much TMNT in the same way the "when all hope seems lost" intro kinda addresses the game's (unjust) laughing stock statue. Could also be used to allude to his nair getting nerfed too. I know Jenny fights kaiju in her show, but still.
Early Man and Onward were both movies I couldn't shake the feeling of "I wish this had a licensed game" while watching.

When finding remixes for SMSB, I try really hard to avoid trap, glitchhop, electro swing, rave, and other "typical" game music remix genres, but I will add them if I think they're good enough or I can't find any other quality remixes for a non-battle-fit song. I personally love to go for big band jazz, it fits platform fighter gameplay so well, and I do hope to try and get a reggae or vocal remix in the soundtrack at some point - hard to find lyrical covers of games that aren't either filled with meta or edgy jokes, or just directly lift the original instrumental though. I got super close to submitting this for Tiny-Huge Island but I decided against it because it's themed around Bob-Omb Battlefield and not Tiny-Huge Island. If we add Bob-Omb Battlefield as a stage later, I will probably submit this as Bob-Omb Battlefield's theme and keep the instrumental version on Tiny-Huge Island.
My NASB predictions are:
- Crossplay between Jenny and Hugh
- VA with Hugh
- Items with Rocko
- If more passes are made, I expect El Tigre; Zuko; Squidward; and a Jimmy-Timmy Power Hour pack, possibly with a second FOP rep for a full 3-character-pack.
The air dash changes in the new NASB update are really throwing me off, but I think I can get used to it.
I think one thing people underestimate when discussing NASB's future is the actual prime Nickelodeon audience - kids - and I don't mean this in the sense of "they're gonna add Parker the Cloud or another Loud Sister!" but rather in the sense that, because of Steam's hardcore-oriented image and requirements, nobody really knows how successful the game is with Nickelodeon's target audience who would prefer to play on the sofa through a console with their friends and family. From what I've seen the game is pretty consistently high on the Switch's fighting game sales charts, though I admittedly don't know if they're recent or all time. I've been recommended a few NASB videos on YouTube that seem to be by kids (Kinemaster watermarks, "X Lover 201Y" usernames, "My reaction when..." titles on clips of characters cheering, so on) and they've very rarely if at all been negative so I doubt the lack of a items at launch and super moves is much more of a deal breaker for them than a lack of 8 player mode or stage morph.
NASB not only has an equivalent to playable Waluigi in Hugh, but they also have their equivalent to the much-desired Mai Shiranui stage cameo in the form of a thicc amonger

Watching old comedy cartoons from before your lifetime in the modern era where cartoons are driven by lore is actually kinda funny because these shows do technically tend to have "lore" in the sense of "extra details of past events that enhance the viewing experience if known", but it's just that said lore is from the real world - or in short, dated pop culture references and once-topical jokes that have turned from easy hahas into rewardingly niche trivia.
I'm trying to make insulting boxing ring titles for all the SMSB characters, written by K. Rool, and I cannot for the life of me think of a way to insult Roy Koopa. He's too cool.
I like to think all the borrowed content in SMSB already exists as fanmade content in this universe, but Nintendo just magically became super cool overnight and everybody's getting royalties for it.
I wonder how Hugh's inclusion comes across to people in foreign countries where the meme didn't pass the language barrier.
If you have a problem with the idea of "characters as functions" (which I personally don't), you should probably be a lot more upset with modern Smash moveset design than the classic characters being unscathed given just how many non-diegetic gameplay elements are incorporated into movesets.
Can't wait to re-enact a vintage masterpiece in Summer.
If Pig the Pig somehow got in NASB, I feel Dr. Pig should be his default costume and regular Pig his alt (or even just viewer mail Pig with no option for the classic naked Pig) to really play into the meme. -
