I think people, in discussion of British/European games, do tend to overlook Donkey Kong Country. That feels, to me at least, like the game my country should be proud of and an icon of our gaming achivements, but when I talk to British people IRL who grew up on DKC or are into gaming but not fully into Nintendo they're often surprised to find out DKC was a British creation. DKC has basically all the good of Amiga europlatformers (atmospheric music, surreal but beautiful atmosphere, every action having an "oomph"), without the janky cameras and BS hit detection.
