I'd rather have Kaptain K. Rool as an echo than an alt. For one thing, the Kap would require a different hitbox from the Krown - but for another I want some goofy swashbuckling animations for him - getting out a sword for a taunt for example.

One of my Discord friends showed me these bat**** crazy animations and I'm hooked. Love all the references to retro tech like Vib-Ribbon, Hall of Tortured Souls, e.t.c. Apparently there's some kind of lore/hidden meaning? but I don't care, I just want to see the weird animation and stellar voice acting.

Cuphead and Shovel Knight are two games that went around the same concept in complete opposite ways - "update retro games." Shovel Knight went for a modern game with retro graphics, whereas Cuphead went for a retro game with modern (in the gaming sense) graphics.

There are some modern elements to Cuphead's game design (purchasable upgrades), and retro elements to Shovel Knight's (instakill spikes) of course, but it's still an interesting contrast.

I much prefer how Cuphead went about it, but both are great ways to go about making a game.

I had a dream where I found out there were two borderline identical rereleases of Kirby's Dream Land just 2 years after its first release:

Dedede's Dream Land, which replaced Kirby's sprite with Dedede's and made it much harder (and also had a McDonald's tie in), and also Glass Joe's Dream Land, which was just the exact same game with different cartridge art.
