I remember reading once that there was this Facebook meme account that was run by wacky teenagers but disguised as a boomer account and filled all their memes with lines about drinking out the garden hose as a conspiracy to convince younger generations that boomers used to drink out of the garden hose. I cannot find any proof this hoax was ever a thing.
The worst thing about Smash speculation isn't crackpot theories or toxicity, it's the damn bandwagon.
