Pizza Tower bias aside, I think Peppino is one of the few non-fighting-game characters who you could make a moveset in which nearly every move is a reference to his game without it feeling forced or incomprehensible, especially when you add unused content.

I'mma be real; NSMBDS being called "safe and bland" kinda riles me up. Like, it was literally made to reintroduce 2D Mario when there hadn't been a new one since Land 2. Of course there wouldn't be a major gameplay shakeup because doing that wasn't the focus.

Plus, it's always used retroactively. I can see how the later NSMB games got repetative, but NSMBDS doesn't deserve the same level of flack on account of being the first one IMO.

all of this is looking over the fact that nsmbds was my first mario platformer btw; i'm tryin not to be biased here

The more I think about it, Rest is the perfect move for Sans in a platform fighter from a character perspective.

Firstly, it encapsulates his personality really well.
A move being decivingly strong is pretty accurate for Sans as a whole.
Setting up for it sorta reminds me of Sans' "dunked on" attack since you have to set up to make Rest worth it to use.
Rest's atrocious endlag reflects that fact is that sleeping is what gets Sans killed in Undertale.

I thought of a fun forum game I could do after Smash from Scratch - Moveset contests! Basically, this thread would update weekly like Ultimate Game Collection with a prompt for a new fighter ("submit an rpg character", for example). Participants would then make a moveset based around the prompt, with the end of the week holding a voting session for the best set while presenting the next prompt.

I don't think it'd be as popular as your standard creation thread, but it'd be fun to do and work better with my current schedule than running another full-fledged creation thread.
