I kinda want to write a timeline for a videogame related alternate history situation. I have two ideas for situations, so I’ll just share the first one I have now: the American side of Sega Technical Institute became independent and got to keep the rights to the games they developed (even though that would be pretty much never happen in that situation) and the Japanese side of Sega wouldn’t be legally be permitted to use anything from sonics 2 and 3 due to the American side helping to develop those games, so they’ll try to make sonic games without them but that would be awkward so some other of their series would probably overtake it in popularity. Don’t know what the American side would be up to afterwards but that’s where this timeline can potentially get wacky depending on how I take it.
Again, I see how this is a very unrealistic situation but I think it would be fun. Might share my other idea later.

I agree that it’s really compelling to hear a story about game developers making something amazing against all odds and without much time, but people don’t realize when that happens with a game it’s most likely because of really unhealthy crunch culture which shouldn’t be celebrated
I think the three best videogame music composers of all time (in terms of their work obviously) are Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu and Toby Fox. Honourable mention to David Wise as well.

I keep on getting flashbacks to the time my teacher played the exact same annoying ska music song for the entire duration of a two hour art class and my friend kept saying it sounded like it’s from the yakuza videogames
I haven’t played the game itself (although I hear the gameplay isn’t very good) but goddamn, I hate the cutscenes in mgs twin snakes so much. They changed the voice acting for no reason and made it so much more boring, made weird changes to characters like make snake do flips and ****, and just changed a lot of the aesthetic of shadow moses island to make it more generic and uninteresting.
I also don’t really like how nintendo fans just kind of uncritically accepted it but that’s a discussion for another day. I am glad it exists given that it got a lot of nintendo fans interested in the series, but it just really isn’t made that well
I don’t know too much about kingdom hearts but it seems like the non-disney stuff is getting more and more serious and “anime-like” for lack of a better term, and at the same time the disney stuff is getting more and more boring and corporate. It’s kinda weird. Although we’ve barely seen anything so I can’t tell for sure.
The fact that KH4 is probably the single most realistic looking game square enix has made/will make is so cursed

The chris simpson artist books are incredibly cursed but they also sometimes feel kinda wholesome as well in a weird way? Like it’s kinda hard to describe but they’re sometimes really uplifting to read even though they’re so cursed.

I found out some of the jokes in gex jr are actually based on kids TV shows like teletubbies and blues clues and that makes me happy
If a game company frequently agnowledges a game series but haven’t made a new game for it in a long time, they didn’t “abandon” it, they’re just not making games for it for whatever reason. Companies don’t owe you any products unless they’ve promised it and thinking they do just sets you up for disappointment.
