The problem is pro-Melee people have seen too many instances of '08 members who have come into these forums spouting stupid crap that only proves their ignorance. The rush of new members after Brawl came out transformed General Brawl Discussion into a stinking cesspool. When someone says something really ignorant and he has a '08 join date, the first thing that comes to mind is "I should have known, he's an '08 guy". Not all '08 join date people are n00bs, but the overwhelming majority is made up of such people.

As for the Melee elitists, they usually only ridicule Brawl players when they claim Brawl is better without prior knowledge of competitive Melee. If you don't know anything about the competitive scene of the previous game, you can't form a valid judgement comparing Brawl to Melee.
