I kinda agree with the first half of your message and kinda disagree with the second. So if it was possible, I would give it half a like. 😛
Take a whole like yourself anyway.
I don't think Ring Fit Trainee is as much of a lock for the next Smash as others seem to think. Sure the game sold well and there's precedent with another character but I feel like there's more to things than that.

I love Wii Fit Trainer, but she isn't exactly the most beloved character. I don't think the Smash devs have much motivation to do another fitness themed character after Wii Fit Trainer got met with mostly "Oh that's a weird pick, anyways".
True but Ring Fit is more based around combat right ? Or... what even is it that you do? Roll a wheel around and burn calories, I got that. But since am typing from a gym here, I never felt that much interest (also I own no TV and play everything handheld).

...You do know you said this after apparently having Noah from XC3 be one of your most wanted characters right?
large disjoint , short hop fair , low landing lag , annoyingly fast characters with a parry which is called a counter

Also Noah would be using a LONGSWORD , which is 2 handed & different

A longsword's still a pretty big disjoint. Can't help but think there might be some bias here (which is fine, but at least own up to it).

It is more of the speed & disjoint at the SAME TIME. simply 1 by itself is not too bad

Suddenly I'm seeing a severe lack of the mage archetype represented. We really need Kamek and Ashley to help even things out.
Yeah we really only have like... Zelda, Robin, Hero and Palutena.

I guess Ness, Lucas and Mewtwo kinda fight like mages, but psychic powers aren't exactly magic.

Given video games (especially RPG's) roots in stuff like Dungeons and Dragons it is disappointing that general spellcasters aren't more common in Smash, with even something like Mii Wizard still not an option. I almost get the sense that the sheer range of options by Hero was Sakurai and company trying to really make up for a deficit of that character type in the series.

Getting a dual white mage/black age (or wizard/cleric if you prefer) would a major breath of fresh air, especially given the options Square Enix offers.

Heck, you could argue Ness, Lucas and Hero are less pure mage and more "magic knight".

As an aside, would Magolor be a decent choice for a mage?
I would argue characters like Robin and Hero count as spell swords. Which is mage like enough for me.

But like yeah, Ness and Lucas being mages sounds weird. It's why I only count Zelda, Robin, Hero and Palutena as mages.

Honestly, I feel Palu's a bit of a stretch, but she fits the bill more than the PK kids.

In terms of mages I want to see in Smash, Kamek, Magolor, and Vivi (FF9) would be fun additions.

Eh, Palutena uses a lot of light magic attacks. She uses a staff, but that's like THE mage weapon.

I thought their games were called eggerland
Technically both are correct; Eggerland and AoL are considered part of the same series, with Eggerland games in Japan and AoL elsewhere.

Funny thing I learned today regardng this; While the NES/Famicom versions of Lolo 1 and 2 share graphics and music, they have completely different levels, so I consider them two seperate games. As such, only a handful Eggerland/AoL games were officially released in both Japan and the West.

I'd like it if Lolo and Lala were treated as Adventure of Lolo reps as opposed to Kirby.
You are correct. I guess I could say “Kirby-adjacent”, in the same sense as DK, Yoshi, Wario to Mario. Out of the main Nintendo series, can’t think of another big example like this, unless you count things like human James McCloud in F-Zero, or even smaller Easter eggs. Bald Bull also being in Arm Wrestling?

Technically speaking, the Lolo and Lala in Kirby are named Lololo and Lalala, so it'd be understandable if they counted both duos as seperate characters in Smash.

I don't know if this an unpopular opinion at all, but:
The decission of making Pac-Man moveset to reference other Namco games is weird.
It would've been better if they made Pac-Man's moveset based around his Pac-Man World games and Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures.

I've siad this many times, but have people who ask for a Pac-Man World moveset actually played Pac-Man World? It's the most generic platforming moveset ever, perfectly servicable in its context, but in Smash Pac deserves way better than "spin-dash, ground pound, and projectile throw". I do like the idea of a Pac-Man 2 moveset, but that's such a fringe and strange game that it'd probably be better as a second character slot like ZSS.

I designed a moveset for Pac that was more inspired by World, but I wouldn't wanna ruin the setplay he currently has, since I really enjoy that. I think it'd be cool if you could angle Up B and then bounce your Bonus Fruit off the trampoline - Did something similar for the Pac-Dots and PM:CE2 jump pad in my take.

Then again, said moveset is for a non-Smash game which I tried to make different purposefully. I think Smash Pac is stellar as-is and I don't think I'd want to sacrifice anything about him just for the sake of PMW (aside from maybe a Butt Bounce Down Air).

Pac-Man is a rare case where him being a retro reference fest is perfect. The pac man games don’t really have a consistent theme to the worlds and characters the same way almost any other series does. For example, the Mario series is pretty vaguely defined but there’s at least a consistent theme to it with its plumbers, princesses, turtles, and happy go lucky worlds and whatnot.

Modern Pac-Man games pretty much just rely on “You know who Pac-Man is because of the 80s, let’s do something fun and weird with the mascot” and the only things really shared between Pac-Man games are all because of how they riff on the first arcade game. Sure there’s some stuff like Pac-Man’s family but that’s not reallyknown by the average person or an essential part of the character’s legacy. Basically 90% of the population just know Pac-Man as an abstract shape that eats other abstract shapes and is eaten by dots, who later became a video game mascot.

I don’t know if the way I’m describing it makes sense but I just think Pac-Man is so defined by his more abstract first game that it makes sense to keep that as his moveset.

Smash fans really overestimate how much of a **** Smash's devs give or ever gave about Nintendo history - key word being history, no doubt they care about the games, even as someone notorious for being relentlessly critical of nuSmash and Sakurai I wouldn't go that far, but there is very clearly quite little care for the real-world contexts behind the games or how they were marketed and distributed - the only times I can really think of that Smash showed that much care to real-world history was either G&W being assigned the final unlockable in Melee, or Banjo being in Smash (and even then, I think the latter was more just a by-proxy thing, people wanted Banjo for the historical context, but I don't fully believe that was something conciously being thought about when the decision to add him was made as much as "people want this character, and nobody knows who Master Chief is in Japan, this is optimal for Amiibo moneys", while the prior's god-like status was completely ommitted from later appearances) - but otherwise, stuff like Hanafuda and US-only games' absence, the general non-Nintendo presence of 3Ps, the very minimal presence of commercial/marketing-related content, and SSBU's unused data suggesting the devs didn't know Nintendo lost the rights to Rare's stuff really just tell me they don't care about the "boring" real world history element, and never did in the first place. This is... value neutral mostly. Good in some regards, bad in others (Cloud in Smash? Good. No You Cannot Beat Us Man in Smash? Bad.), but I do think it's worth acknowledging because I think a lot of Smash discourse is based on the idea that the devs are on the same wavelength as the die-hard die-hard fans and care (or even know) about very specific contexts and points in history (especially late 90s/early 00s) that have stuck in people's minds, like the Square-Enix cartridge fallout for instance.

Speaking as one guilty as charged, does anyone else think that this thread (along with other "unpopular opinion" threads anywhere) suffers greatly from posters trying to get a rise out of others?

Even with a lot of the valid criticisms I agree with, they're framed in such exaggerated, sensationalistic, and inflammatory ways (no better than internet news company clickbait) that the impact of the opinion is destroyed by the impact of the exaggeration itself. And even if it's not directed to a particular person or even directed to a group who will never possibly read this thread (like those at Sora Ltd. or Nintendo), the sheer noxiousness of the contempt itself seriously undermines any possible impact of the core point.

The Nintendo Off My Chest Thread has noted the same problem, at it made me think about this one too.

it possible that some people are doing to get such a reaction but you also have to consider that some people don't realise how they come across

Not gon front, the original Unpopular Opinions thread was a spectacle. It was the peak. Yeah I kinda addressed this. The old thread was closed because other random users started to nitpick at opinion posters to where it turned toxic. I also had a bit of rage in that topic but still didn't give them the right to nitpick since it adds to frustration that is gear grinding. The exact reason I made a Critique Smash thread that replies and debating completely go against but can't help those who love a good debate of curiosity. 🙄

Its an honorable coincidence you addressed this. Just amazing thought.

Not to be rude, but you probably could've stopped at this paragraph. The entire reason this thread exists was to let Smash opinions that would typically get you dogpiled on for having let out some steam. If that can't be done civilly, there's no point in differentiating this from the normal threads. And at that point, what's the point of being here? If I can't advocate for an opinion without getting nagged on how unpopular it is, something's wrong.

Honestly, this whole thing with people going on unpopular opinion threads and being shocked when they see unpopular opinions really does remind me of the NASB thread - the whole marketing campaign for NASB1 was basically just Discord screenshots saying "we have Melee mechanics" yet people on that thread would get mortified every time someone suggested Ultimate has flaws.

If it were up to me, I would axe having entirely different characters being used as alternate costumes (mainly the Koopalings for Bowser Jr. & Alph for Olimar).

It sets a precedent that the character is interchangeable with anyone else, which really couldn't be further from the truth for these characters. It limits their potential to truly be themselves and have their own personalities shown off through animations and moves because they have to share their costumes with unrelated schmucks. They're never willing to commit fully anyway since their Final Smashes are still based on the original skin of the character. At the end of the day you're left with a character with generalized animations so that other characters can fit this mold, instead of making the character actually... have their character.

It only works in specific circumstances; mainly Steve since all Minecraft characters are avatars with no personality and move the same way, although even then I do find short Enderman to be a little egregious. I can't comment on Hero because I'm not familiar enough with the source material.
