Battlefield is sort of a Snake stage.
Setting your explosive's on the platforms(And the hit boxes extend from the platform to the main section of BF), fairly easy to recover, Snake's range, sometimes seeing C4 on the main section is tricky(If you're going for that mind game, you might as well pick like..Norfair/Brinstar/a dark course.)
Overall though, good Snake stage.

I don't think so. I've always hated battlefield with snake. It's an aerial specialists stage, not good for someone who almost always requires being grounded. Plus it's really small and I can't stand being claustrophobic:laugh::laugh:

just posting here to let you guys know since i dont see it in the matchup, Lucario can do a extremespeed into a viable wall and wall cling to it. final destination, the right side of frigate orpheon are just 2 examples. speaking of this, the wall jump he gets from those are HUGE

I hate playing a Snake on BF. Place a mine on a platform and you effectively make 1/3 of the level really dangerous. Not to mention, mortars can make getting back down to the main level a huge pain.

I just hate Battlefield.

BF is only a bad stage for Snake in certain matchups. For example, don't take an MK/Olimar/DK there. BF favors aerial fighters, but it also favors Snake in most matchups due to his explosion mind games. Of course, the Snake player will have to be careful of his own explosions too.

Definitely useful information. I may have to learn rainbow cruise now that olimar is getting more annoying.

I cant wait to see some uncommon matchups *coughiceclimbersorluigicough* :)

As far as ice climbers go don't get grabbed and predict grab attempts and f-tilt. B reverse grenades in the air if ur landing to not get grabbed when u land. Place D-smash often to foil chain grab attempts. When they are seperated attempt to F-smash nana when she is trying to get back to popo predict and punish her for her stupidly running straight to popo. Counter pick stages you might wanna just keep it nuetral unless ur good on rainbow cruise but beware ice climber players can always pick another char like g&w and mk. And bans, ban battlefield or fd. i say fd simple because u have no where to go platform wise so getting grabbed is easier on fd. Battlefield because its small and not much room to work on but u can do set ups, so its back and forth with myself on whether or not its a good ban.

Unless you want to get kicked in the nuts, never call her a ***** or ***** again.

I will personally find where you live, and tickle you to death with feathers, that I personally plucked from the Crown that Link gave to Meta Knight. Link made it out of that stupid Owl that stalks him everywhere.

Little digression eh?

Link got those owl feathers from angry moonkin.
Sorry if non-nintendo games are not allowed in reference on the smashboards :p

Suggestion: Can we move on to the matchup with Kirby next? I want to figure out if there's some way to juggle snake or play aerial mindgames. Or maybe use Snake's nades after sucking him up is effective in some way :D

Hmm... seems pretty straight forward :) Thanks for the help guys. I can always cp norfair, or rainbow cruise

when fighting ice climbers.

I just noticed how cautious IC mains get when there is a landmine lol

I agree. Olimar is probably my toughest match-up and I really need tips/strategies/etc. :(
lol i was about to write something about the D3/Olimar MU and then I realized I'm in the Snake forum lol. Anyway get rid of those pikmin as fast as you can, and try to get him offstage and edgehog him. Olimar is a really hard MU, especially if you don't have experience, so i would suggest to fight as many Olimars as possible =)

avoid the air with olimar, when he gets you into the air olimar will have alot of fun with snake. his grabs is what gets snake badly, since snake is a shield heavy character and olimar is a grab heavy character it sorta shows why snake right there gets ***** (same goes with D3) olimar will up throw you right away and start his barrage of awsome aerial game.

Now for my answer to olimar.

camp, camp like no other, camp like your going on a trip with your parents for a whole week.
olimar's pikmin love to stick to you and do a lot of DoT, right when you get one on you. F-tilt and kill the lil basterd. olimar's weak point is his recovery, so abuse f-tilt as much as possible. when you get him off stage mortar slide to a ledge grab. it will give you inv frames (obv) and a mortar to protect the top of you.

also beware of his awesome F smash ledge guarding. he'll throw a pikmin right off the ledge so try to avoid being under the stage and recovering, in that scenario i would actually prefer using a c4 recovery to avoid any unnecessary gimpage. it'll beat you up a bit but trust me, it's worth it.

I'm a little late to the IC matchup discussion, but I just wanted to quickly mention that Snake has the advantage in the matchup. I play against, arguably, the best Ice Climbers player in the nation right now (Lain) on a regular basis. Its an annoying matchup, but Snake definitely beats the ICs. Probably 60-40.

Olimar isn't that hard. It's 5/5 at worst although I think Snake wins. You can approach him with the Mortar Slide if he throws a Pikmin. It's really simple: The Dash attack kills the Pikmin, the usmash hits Olimar. Everytime Olimar throws a Pikmin you get a free approach and a free usmash. That means that he can't outcamp you or at least he can't stop you from approaching. If he camps you can approach freely, if he doesn't camp (lol) you can throw nades or do whatever you want.
The other thing that helps Snake is Olimars pathetic get up roll after your dthrow. It goes absolutely nowhere and is slow too. You can easily regrab him twice at least or get a regrab + ftilt without much trouble.
Nobody can edgeguard Olimar better than Snake. Just lay a mine/grenade near the edge and hog the ledge (just watch out for the explosion). If you hang there Olimar has to go directly to the stage and lands in the mine, otherwise he loses his stock. You can repeat this process everytime you get him off the stage. Even if you can't KO him you'll deal good amounts of dmg.

Does anyone want the OP updated and a new title so that we can get a new matchup discussed instead of just recapping old ones?

Rusty gave me his password along time ago to run this thread, but then havokk came in and took over. But it seems like this thread has been abandoned now, so I'll be willing to start running it again.

Someone suggest a character and we'll start on them.

meta knight.

that was very helpful I think though, I normally don't mortar slide to approach much because it only does 4% damage and if you do it at the wrong time it's an easy grab, but I'll have to try doing it on reaction to pikmin tossing more. although it's more his close/mid range camping game that bothers me, maybe it's all in my head but can't he pretty much just hang around just outside of ftilt range and force your hand? he can punish almost anything you choose to do at that point with a grab, which leads to some stupidly good combo attack that puts you in the air where snake gets ***** even harder, unless you have a grenade close by but even then he can still safely throw you most of the time. the weird thing about all this is that I win most of the games I play against olimar, I only know one and he's not very good, I just don't see a way around him *on paper*, like the only thing you can do is hope they suck <_< well I suppose in that scenario you could pull a grenade roll away fast and camp him to bait the pikmin toss...yeah, pretty sure it's all in my head but I still hate him
