You know what has been bothering me lately? How there are so many people putting the word "banned" in there avatar to make them look like rebels or make them seem cool. Somebody needs to explain to them how most people who are banned are usually considered losers, spammers, or suck-ups.

Ex: Me, that one guy who mains luigi, or other people who do downright stupid stuff.

Vent over.

So I'm not the only one. What really got me angry was the sprite and the AI sause. Honestly it's just a fad that people like. Just thank whatever supernatural person you believe in (God, Buddha, Spongebob, etc.) that it's nowhere near as bad as with AiB and Weegee.

Something that's bugging me, but not really anything anyone can help me with, is that I've sort of been going through a music...well, not really sure what to call it. But I haven't really felt like listening to music for the past week. Which wouldn't seem all that odd, but for me, it is. Basically, music and video games are the two things I'm really passionate about. I constantly listen to music; it helps me focus while working, it helps me relax when I'm just doing whatever. What happens is I start playing my iPod or my iTunes library, and I find that I just don't feel like listening to any of the songs...I keep skipping them until I say "Screw it" and turn it off.

Although I think I might be "recovering", so to speak, from it now, I'm still not feeling as good listening to music as I normally am. I found it sort of odd.

Maybe you need something new or need to explore different genres. I suggest Last.fm for that, if that be the case

This happens to me a lot. I listen to certain music for a long time and then get burnt out on it. Sometimes that just means that I've shifted to a different musical mood, but sometimes it means that the music I'm in the mood for has gotten kind of stale.

I recently fixed this problem by acquiring some new music. But it might just take some down time. You're right—it's not something anyone can really help you with. But I can relate.

I know the feeling. annoyed me a lot when the premmies were changing their titles to Banned (6 points). Was often tempted to make it that extra more realistic for them.;)

So in a conversation with my mother earlier tonight she mentioned something that I hadn't really thought about. My parents know (because I'm way too spineless to lie, much less omit facts) that I've been having trouble doing my classwork for college.

So when I broke down in tears (yes, I'm guy, so you can quit laughing now) the instant I answered the phone, she told me that I was distracted. And it makes sense. Procrastination often occurs with being distracted, right?

The thing is, if the solution to all this is to get away from the distraction... then how on EARTH am I supposed to get away from failing at Smash? Ok, so you might snicker at the prospect of an almost 20-year-old adult having SERIOUS issues with a fighting game, but unfortunately, I can't join you. I'm honestly confused, how do I get away from something like that?

I just feel ditched behind in a cloud of dust. :urg:

Well, set priorities. Pay attention in class, do your HW, and on your free time, practice.

I had kind of the same problem. I wouldn't do hw because I have like tons of distraction in my room. Imagine, a computer, ps3, xbox 360, wii, and friends in my same block. Finally I forced myself to ignore these distractions, do what I had to do, and THEN play/hang out.

It happens with me like that sometimes. Normally, I always have music playing. I love my iPod, and if I'm out, it's on. If I'm in my dorm, it's plugged into my speakers, and it's playing.

But sometimes, I'll scroll through all of my albums without seeing anything that looks interesting. I've got plenty of music, and it's pretty varied, so it's not for a lack of variety. My old standby to fix this was to just go shuffle. But when I skip like 50 songs in a row before any are tolerable... yeah, that's not fun.

When this happened around Christmas, I decided to try out Pandora. I never tried it, since I can get a bit obsessive about my last.fm and get a twitch when my music doesn't scrobble. But once I found out there was a way to do that with Pandora, I bookmarked that. When I was feeling anti-my-music, I gave it a shot. Typed in the name of a band I liked, and let it go for a while. Heard some stuff I'd heard before, and some stuff I hadn't. And it was mostly good stuff too. It definitely got me going again. Sometimes all you need is something completely new.

Sounds like you've got your priorities all wrong!

You need to find other outlets for your stress and frustration. It can be anything, really. Make new friends, start working out or exercising, join a club of some sort, watch more movies, get out more, go hiking, whatever. Find something and stick with it. If you're placing that much importance on a video game, it's a sign that you don't have other hobbies or outlets in your life. I think you should make it your priority to do something, anything else. I'm not saying give up Smash. Rather, do other things in addition to it.

Potential outlets:

Music - My music career pretty much ended when I graduated out of high school, seeing as I was in the band. I still listen to music (mostly video game music, heh), but well, it's not really productive.

Science - Again, an ancient relic from high school. *sigh* I did academic competitions in my state and got far enough (up to state level), but, again, since I'm not taking chemistry or physics or anything of the sort right now, I really don't have as much interest in it as I used to.

Computers - As much as I want to claim this as an interest... well, there's nothing really THERE for me besides what I'm getting out of classes. I don't know anything outside of Windows, much less Windows itself. So there's that one down the drain...

Video Games aside from Smash - Uh, well, there's really nothing productive here, although I've recently been going to RPGs for some deluded sense of accomplishment that I can't get from college.

Umm... really, there's not much else to me, really. I'm amazingly one-dimensional. :urg:

As far as making friends... hah, that's a riot...

I put up with stupid stuff from my high school classmates. I ended up being valedictorian, but I might as well have been ranked bottom as far as my classmates' respect for me goes. No, I wasn't a jerk, I just wasn't respected compared to everyone else who was more outgoing and not boring. And of course, I was told, time and time again, "college'll be different, you'll meet new people". I've met... I dunno, a decent number of people, probably around 70 or so (the size of my high school class, coincidentally), but none of my conversations went beyond "Hi" and rather minor stuff. So basically, I alone am not an interesting person.

But wait, there's Smash! Of course, that'll make me much more interesting to be around and maybe worth making friends with!

Oh crud, but I fail hard at it. So much for making friends. :(

What do I have left to my name? My academic record and study ethic (which, is now evidently a relic of high school as well). How much is that worth? Not much, evidently, considering my experience with my high school classmates.

You acknowledge your problem, but you're not willing to change.

You're not willing to change because you think your problem precludes you from ever being different.

Not a lot of options until you decide to up and change your life for the better. All I can do is provide suggestions. If you keep making excuses, you'll just perpetuate your misery and blame it on things you believe are out of your control.

If you haven't made friends, it's not because you're "not an interesting person". Believe me, the majority of people are not "interesting" by any stretch of the imagination. People become friends because they talk and do stuff together and bond, and probably talk about lots of "uninteresting" things. You've got to stop believing that your life is this way because of some permanent character flaw and realize that you've got to take positive steps to improve.

...

... :/

Well I can't say I come from an unbiased party, but I'll try my best to explain I guess, and to anybody else who finds it annoying (how, I don't know).

We did it for the exact reasons you said it, "The Sonic boards" just did it for the fun, the lulz, and just to be funny amongst ourselves. We really did not care what other people think of us, of course people would be questioning why we did it because of said reasons, but again it was just a joke about how a lot of us were getting banned at the time and how we could try to make the best out of a situation. I changed my avi because it was getting a little bit old, but we already acknowledge we are shunned by most if not the rest of this forum, so we might as well have made something out of it.

That's like telling a biker gang not to get tattoos. :/ We were and still are our own little group of friends, the banned avis was just what "helped" others know who we were (though one could say having Sonic as a main character icon would've been enough, but after a while of spending time with the guys... it just won't suffice).

I think they just do it as a joke, Nick. Lol.
This and...

On the internet, nothing is serious business, not even forums, so why so "terious?"

(Goes to check the true SBR to see what new concoctions the fellas might be brewing up this time around)

I started the banned avatars, at least, within the Sonic boards group, to 'celebrate' the ban of a Sonic board regular who was off spamming in other boards.

People followed suit, and it was funny.

It was kind of like Anonymous, except with avatars.

we did it 4 the lulz.

and you sir, have small lulz.

I love it when people talk about things the clearly don't know about. It reminds me why I lost faith in humanity.

But yeah, the Internet is serious bussiness.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking is possible...I haven't gotten new music in a while, come to think of it, so I may just be bored of what I already have for the moment. The only thing new I've gotten recently is the entire collection of Phoenix Wright Soundtracks...which is good, don't get me wrong, but video game and other non-vocal music has a different quality from vocal music, and I feel like vocal music.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give Last.fm a shot.

I think the problem is just that the music I've been consistently listening to has gotten old...I still feel like listening to the same old Rock/Pop/Video Game Music, it's just that the exact set of songs I've been listening to has gotten old. Which makes sense, since for the past like, six months, I've either been listening to my latest set of songs, or to a massive playlist of all of my favorite songs. Which has sort of made me tired of that set of songs. To try and remedy it, I'm trying to listen to my entire library on shuffle.

Thinking about it now, I do feel rather stupid because I'm nearly sure that's why. I have about 1900 songs on my iPod, so there's surely going to be gems I just forgot to add, or songs I put on my iPod and WOULD'VE added, but I just forgot to.
Nonetheless, I could go for some new music as well, for sure.

It happens with me like that sometimes. Normally, I always have music playing. I love my iPod, and if I'm out, it's on. If I'm in my dorm, it's plugged into my speakers, and it's playing.

Thanks, Pandora seems interesting enough too. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for all the advice, guys. I appreciate it.

Hence the large amount of my resources spent on Smash (well, specifically, Brawl).

I see that there's an issue with me connecting with other people. I'm not a very charming person. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've been accused lots of times of being waaaaaaaaaay to serious.

Unfortunately, the one thing I can use to unwind (video games) don't readily allow me to show people that I'm not 100% serious 100% of the time. And without active participation, well... there's no point in other people being there to see that. :(

So that brings me to use multiplayer games as a sort of medium for connecting with people. The thing is... when I have something like Brawl or Melee that highly revolves around the concept of skill, well, this method backfires horribly if I'm not any good at either.

I can only guess there are other methods of going about this (which probably includes, among other things, just the plain, cold-turkey talk-about-absolutely-nothing-important method), but I see Brawl (or Melee) as the one thing that could turn everything around for me, as incredibly dumb as that may sound. I just gotta find the time and effort to put into it (which right now is being spilt up with school).

I checked my letters today.

"Dear Owner/Occupier,

Our database lists this address as unlicensed. It is important you realise that it is now illegal to use television receiving equipment to watch or record TV programmes at the property, and this will remain the situation until it is adequately licensed.

Please respond by 24th February to avoid an investigation into you case by TV Licensing's Enforcement Division. The consequences of such an investigation can be serious."

Well they can come round all they want, I don't even have a TV. I've only been in my flat for 2 weeks and already I'm getting threatening letters.

Wow, that's kind of creepy...

Do you know for sure if it's official? Like, could it possibly be some sort of spam mail or something to get you to call them and have something pitched to you?

Otherwise, they're rather stupid to send a threatening letter about TV if you don't even own one.

Over the past few months, things have been going wrong, whether big or small, personal or irrelevant, stuff just hasn't been going my way.

But as of late, things seem to be turning around, looking up. But why do I feel kinda empty because of it. I feel like I don't have anything with any real depth to talk about anymore, and that all my conversations are mindless small talk.

I don't miss being miserable, or things going wrong. But I guess I kinda like it when I kinda liked it when I could talk to my mates about a bad week, and get a really good feeling from knowing i've had a fulfilling chat.

I'm on my last straw, I think.

I'm right now trying to finish a Data Structures assignment that I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO and I PLANNED on getting up in four hours to work on a 3 page report that's due AT THE SAME TIME as the Data Structures assignment.

I'm an idiot and a sham. I'm not a computer science major, I'm a no-good lousy student going to what's basically a high-class college.

I feel ya. I can't do math at all so I'm trying creative writing as a major. I originally intended to go for entomology (study of insects), but I figured out I didn't want to be a scientist since it sort of takes away the 'mystique' of insects. All scientists to is hatch generations of them, kill them, and hatch more. Sort of not what I had in mind. I love reading/writing fun stuff, and my love of bugs stemmed from my love of reading, so I thought that would be a good path.

Too bad my aunt disagrees and bothers me constantly about it, telling me I should think about the dying economy and how I will feed myself in the future with this major (I intend to teach English or creative writing...being a professor might be nice too). I think about how I will support myself after school's all done, and nothing's come up lol. Pretty depressing.

Relax. You can't change classes now so you may as well bust your *** for that 70%

If you turn in code that doesn't work do you get some credit? I have problems in my class that don't require code to solve. If you'd like, post a problem here and I'll see if I can help, although I probably can't.

Three pages is nothing. If you know what you have to say you can crank it out in two hours, max.

It official, it's the TV licensing people, it's a whole long letter thing with numbers to contact etc, and how to pay my TV licence that everyone has to pay.

"What will the procedure be if you do not respond by the above date?
Your details will be prepared for transfer to our Enforcement Division for investigation. Regional Officers will be scheduled to visit your address. If they find evidence that TV receiving equipment is being used on the property without a valid licence, you may be cautioned and your statement will be taken in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 or Scottish criminal law. You may face prosecution and risk the maximum penalty of a £1,000 fine.

In order to avoid first steps in the investigation stage, please ensure your home is properly licensed urgently.

If you have recently bought a TV Licence you needn't respond to this letter."

It's not exactly expensive, it's only £140 a year, I'm just whining about it here cause it's the only thing thats bothered me recently.
