Hey guys, I’m sorry to just barge into your thread, but I really want to invite you guys to my tournament in April here in Tucson, Arizona. This is a big tournament I am running, and I would be pleased as punch if you could come. Also, it’s AXE’s 21st birthday too, so that is already mad hype. I ask you guys to make the trip down here, and enjoy some cool spring weather this Easter weekend. Thanks!
Seriously. Click here. Come check us out. :D

probably on a platform
Yo, when are you guys gunna update this thing?
vvvvvv

all an update would do is like

mash lucky/zhu/johnny/lovage/fly/me/hugo together. like literally just put 2-8 and put our names in abc order
probably move eddy below us
maybe leave alex there
take off connor/larry
and then just leave the rest cause yea
we haven't had many tournies, all of the top players all mesh like always beating and losing to each other/people out of state

as far as i know none of our lower ranked peeps have consistently proven they should be somewhere else. except i think we'd add on j666

also everyone knows kinda where they stand now and no one really cares to update this thing

i think adding on j666 (and sherigami? though he stopped coming recently) would be a good reason to update, and to remove inactives as well. having an up to date pr would still be nice, and if yall already know what changes should be made, it shouldnt be that time consuming. i for one am interested in how the top 10 would look like nowadays.

fly can we request an update? i know many people have been asking already...

Yeah, we can start discussion. It's hard to get the panelists together, so I'll just list a few options here and hopefully we can get everything sorted out soon:

1) Discuss this on a Facebook page mostly. I remember this suggestion coming up shortly after the last update; the only downside I see is that I wouldn't be able to directly take part, but as long as somebody could keep me in the know from elsewhere, such as AIM or PMs here, I'm fine with that.

2) Use the panelist group here. Since the social group structure on SWF blows, this probably isn't the greatest option, but it is one.

3) Have an AIM meeting. I like this option the most since we can get everything done in an hour or so, but we never had any success actually getting on at the same time when trying this last period.

4) Something else! If anybody has any other ideas, I'm all ears.

fly is 1 syllable and rolls off the tongue

jeremy is 3 syllables and does not

also fly is much faster to type

and he doesn't seem to care which we address him by

edit: actually i just think I'm not a fan of the name jeremy

cuz spark's tag is only 1 syllable but I call him micheal

michael is one of my favorite names though

Do you really think you're equal with johnny, lucky, lovage, fly and hugs?

All signs point to yes.

I give Johnny and Oscar the wins over Mccain, but Mccains placing out of region is where he really shines. You also have the fact that he slightly edges out Fly, and Joey can be fairly inconsistent.

There really is no reason to not lump him in with those players.

eddy is in his own tier

old proz that can come back and ****- lucky, hugs, zhu, macd, alex19, connor, DEHF, KFC, luigi (evilnemesis), knives, P, ETC

after that there is a lot of untapped talent/ people still getting better. however, everyone will pretty much keep beating each other out. until people consistently **** the rest its a tossup (sung, stab, hyprid, j666, baka, peligro, joey (joejoe), sherigami, etc)

some san diego dudes are also good but they are retired i think, jesse, sunny, vogue, pat

theres actually enough talent for like a top 25 especially with new dudes like merc coming in but its impossible to make an objective list

if we're just basing it off of empirical results imho the ranking for the lower half, the "untapped talent" should be
sherigami, stab, hyprid, baka, sung, j666, peligro, joejoe. idk if sherigami would be that high right now though.

granted the skill gap between us all is not too big, and from eddie to us is rather noticeable

but of course the top 10 dont really care about the bottom too much, sooo idk lol =P

The annoying thing about judging Sherigami is that in his brief period of activity, he ultimately displayed a greater degree of consistency than the other people around his level, yet it's been a few months since he's done anything.

As an outside perspective, it is also hard to say how the people in stab's tier play. They are all really good, but cancel each other out. I guess just look at the TIO files?

lovage you were right, socal is really friggin good

i think the whole rankings need an overhaul. i think starcraft has the best system i've come across. ELO, for one, *****. secondly, sample size. starcraft takes into account a body of work ranging from a year. starleagues (the smash equivalent would be regionals / any OOS competition) are weighted heavily. most recent results are also weighted. past results gradually decay.

i find it absurd that a game that appeals to such nerdy *** players is ranked in such a flippant, lackadaiscal way. it's so results-oriented and myopic.

i think if you go to as little as one tournament a year you should be eligible. the smash community is very stable. rarely do players abnegate from the scene.

so the old vets that we know **** that have also been to more than enough tournaments in a 1-2 year period of time should be ranked. i'm open to a top 25, and those vets would just be punished harshly for being inactive wrt their rank, but they would still be ranked. we all know if alex19, hugs, connor, dehf, etc. put their mind to it and showed up they would be contending for top 10 spots. we all know they're threats to any regional or national they attend.

i think it should go back to top 10. socal isn't good enough for anything more than top 10
dude, you would shoot yourself if you lived in AZ

it's so hard to come up with a top 10 with good people

and it doesn't help that all the noobs are/were pushing for taking off people like axe, wobbles, taj for tournament inactivity (making me #1 :() AND wanting a top 15. they pretty much want to rank everyone in the state. it's dumb.

I dont think the "untapped talent" people will ever move up on the list unless the top 10 start going to tournaments more consistantly
