Super Mario Bros.	The defining title of the 2D platformer genre, Building off of previous titles featuring the then-ambigious Mario character and taking heavy cues from Namco's Pac-Land, Super Mario Bros. brought the side scrolling platformer into the mainstream and established Nintendo as THE gaming company for quite some time with it's tight platforming and creative secrets. Almost every Nintendo console since has featured some iteration of the game, while the original sprite artwork and sound effects continue to pop up in Nintendo titles to this day. With the Ultimate Game Collection, it can finally be experienced legally on Sony and Microsoft hardware.
Final Fantasy VII	Final Fantasy VII released on the first PlayStation and was the first Final Fantasy game, and one of the first JRPGs, to use polygonal graphics. The first six Final Fantasy games were popular, but had a limited appeal, which all changed with this one which completely blew up in every part of the world due to its revolutionary graphics, tragic story, and slow-paced but fun gameplay. There were a lot of RPGs before Final Fantasy VII but many people simply haven't experienced one of this scale before this.
Street Fighter II	After the decently faring Street Fighter, Capcom followed it up with the hugely successful sequel Street Fighter II, featuring both playable characters: Ryu and Ken, returning alongside Street Fighter's main villain Sagat, and a whole host of new fighters from around the world. This game features much smoother controls and easier to pull off special moves which made it a hit that gave 1-on-1 fighting games the push they needed to truly become a successful genre and even a competitive e-sport!
Tetris	Created in 1984 by famous Soviet software engineer Alexey Pajitnov, enter Tetris. This puzzle game has established itself as one of the greatest early video games. From simply creating rows of blocks, this game was a world wide phenomenon. In fact, Tetris has been published by several companies for multiple platforms, Nintendo most notably for their GameBoy. Resident Evil 4	The fourth mainline entry in the Resident Evil series and the first one to use an over-the-shoulder camera view. You play as police officer Leon S. Kennedy who travels to Spain to rescue the US president's daughter from an evil cult. Resident Evil 4 features a blend of action and horror segments, giving this game a lot of variety in it. The camera style of this game inspired a whole new generation of shooter games and survival horror games and the mainline Resident Evil games haven't went back to their older style ever since.
Doom	DOOM is one of the earliest FPS games and it was developed by ID Software. Coming off the heels of the highly influential Wolfenstein 3D, ID Refined the design philosophies they established there and also with the help of new technology they created DOOM. The legacy of this game has endured over the years due to its high replayability and the fact that the game does not require that much power, allowing it to be played on basically anything with a screen and CPU.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time	After four years without any releases, the Legend of Zelda series came back in a new dimension with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Ocarina of Time was one of the biggest worlds in videogames of the time and boasted a huge, sprawling open world and intelligently designed puzzles as the young hero Link grows up to defeat Ganondorf, an evil king threatening the kingdom of Hyrule. The game also invented the “Z-targeting” system where you can lock onto an enemy and your movements will be around them, allowing you to more easily fight against them, which has since become an industry standard still used to this day. Even today Ocarina of Time is often considered one of the greatest games of all time.
Wii Sports	Being one of the best-selling Nintendo games of all time, Wii Sports is a classic that many remember playing when the game first launched in 2006 as a launch title for the Wii itself. The game consists of five sports being tennis, baseball, golf, boxing and bowling. Players can create Miis on the Wii console to play as a representation of themselves or someone else. You may even get to face against Matt, a self-proclaimed legend of sports (especially boxing). Pac-Man	Pac-Man is a maze game created by Toru Iwatani in 1980 and it was released on arcade machines by japanese company Namco. In this game, you take control of yellow fella named Pac-Man, whose task is to eat all dots while avoiding menacing ghost gang. When Pac eats the power pellet, he gets an ability to eat ghosts as they turn into cowardly blue ones during the pellet's use. Pac-Man's possible inspiration came from the time when Toru was eating pizza and he noticed that the pizza without one slice looked like a Pac-Man and he decided to make a character based on idea that he came up during eating a pizza. Pac-Man became a huge success and it became one of most iconic 1980's video games of all time, plus it is now considered as one of video game landmarks in video game history and even popular culture. This game was super popular enough that even started the franchise itself on excellent note. Minecraft	Minecraft was first created in 2009 by indie company Mojang and released in 2011. It was a huge hit, being known for its open world where you can build almost anything and craft a verity of items to help you survive. This open nature made it a hit with let’s players on platforms such as YouTube, pushing both this game and the internet forward and giving them both further relevance. It ended up being so popular that in 2014 when it sold to Microsoft it was valued at 2.5 billion dollars. Minecraft is also known for frequently being updated with new game mechanics and mobs. In Ultimate Game Collection, all previous updates of the game are playable.
Crash Bandicoot	Although it has now been released on all major consoles through the N. Sane Collection, Crash Bandicoot was originally published by Sony for the PlayStation console and was seen as their mascot. PlayStation’s Mario. The game is a 3D platformer where you move through narrow, corridor-like levels and an occasional side scroller. So it wasn’t a huge open world collectathon like other 3D platformers of the time such as Super Mario 64 but it still features plenty of collectables and is known for fun but notoriously difficult gameplay.
Super Mario 64	When Princess Toadstool (Peach) is kidnapped again it’s up to Mario to stop her! Super Mario 64 was one of two launch titles for the Nintendo 64 console and it revolutionized the genre of 3D platformer. The genre certainly existed before it and games were striving for 3D graphics quite early into their life cycle but this was what truly brought it to the mainstream and brought a sense of exploration unlike any other platformer of the time. There are 15 stages to be found in this game, all of which are hidden somewhere in Princess Peach’s castle. As Mario, you must traverse each level looking for hidden stars and 80 are required to beat the evil Bowser. These stars can be hidden with bosses, by getting all red coins in a stage, getting 100 coins, or by other more secret means. There’s always something to do in Super Mario 64 and always a place to look for secrets.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2	The first Sonic the Hedgehog was a success but Sonic 2 is what truly made Sonic stand right next to Mario as one of the most important video game characters of all time. When the evil Dr. Robotnik is up to his old tricks again it’s up to Sonic the Hedgehog and his new friend Miles “Tails” Prowler to defeat him! Sonic must speed across 11 zones (and a rumoured hidden one?) while navigating treacherous platforming sections and defeating Robotnik’s robots. Along the way Sonic can get the opportunity to visit special bonus stages to get the Chaos Emeralds for the good ending of the game (and another special surprise). The blue blur has a huge legacy as one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time and this game is a prime example of his greatness!
Halo: Combat Evolved	The first entry in the Halo series was released in 2001 and tells the story of the war between humans and an evil alien enemy known as the Covenant, bent on destroying humanity. As a secret weapon humanity awakens Master Chief, a man dressed in ultra powerful space armour with the simple goal of taking back earth. Halo wowed audiences with quick first person shooter combat using a variety of weapons of both the human and alien variety, huge maps, and intelligent enemy AI design. Halo helped put the Xbox system on the map and is still known as one of Xbox Game Studios’s biggest franchises.
The Last of Us	The Last of Us is an (until now) PlayStation exclusive video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It features an emotional, gruelling narrative set 20 years into an apocalypse with Joel Miller, a morally ambiguous Texan who lost his daughter 20 years ago and is now simply trying to surivive in the world. He takes care of a 14 year old girl named Ellie Williams who he ends up finding and acts like a father figure to her. They travel the United States to try and search for a cure to the virus ravaging the world, or at least something to make life better. The game features third person shooter gameplay focused on stealth and avoidance of enemies as well as teamwork with partner characters. It’s tense to match the situation out characters are in and the stress of enduring and surviving every day. The Last of Us continues to show how emotional narratives can exist in video games and has convinced many people of the emotional power of the medium in a genre with a stigma that it’s for kids. The Last of Us even went onto recieve a television adaptation on HBO which was received extremely well.
Team Fortress 2	Team Fortress 2 is an online multiplayer shooter released by Valve in 2007 as part of The Orange Box collection. It features nine playable classes, all with their own distinct personalities, who fight on red or blue teams for a certain objective each match. Despite being nearly a decade old the game still has a huge dedicated player base and people who continue to play it to this day. Many characters skills or abilities compliment each other to give you an advantage in game: the medic can heal team mates, engineers can build teleporters to different places on the map, and the heavy can tank damage for the rest of the team. In order to get a win you must know the strengths of everyone on your team and work together for your objective.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney	It’s Phoenix Wright’s first day as a lawyer! And he has to defend his best friend… In a murder trial. Not the best first day on the job, but with the help of his mentor Mia Fey he might just be able to point out the contradictions in the prosectution’s arguments and prove his friend innocent. In court trial segments Phoenix must cross examine witnesses and present relevant evidence that might contradict them to find the truth of the situation. And when he does find a contradiction in the witness’s argument… OBJECTION! Evidence can be gathered in investigation segments which also show off the iconic and whimsical characters of the games. Along the way he’ll uncover secrets about himself, his friends, and the very court system he participates in. Four cases are available all presenting one mystery and an extra fifth one that was added in the DS port of this game. The Ace Attorney series has become an absolute phenomenon, appearing in anime, movies, and stage plays, and it all starts here.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes	Released originally for arcades in 2000, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is considered one of the greatest fighting games ever and the culmination of all of Capcom’s fighting game works of the 90s. The game features a massive roster of 56 characters, half coming from the Marvel comics brand and the other half coming from video games produced by Capcom, the studio behind games like Street Fighter. The game is notable for being flexible with its mechanics: huge combos are easy to pull off, screen-swiping attacks can be done with a push of a button, and if you are experienced enough you might even be able to annoy your friends with an infinite combo. Speaking of friends, the game also features an online mode to battle with people all over the world!

Undertale	Undertale is an indie game released in 2015, primarily worked on and developed by Toby Fox. The game was very anticipated mostly due to Toby Fox’s history with the Homestuck web series but it was way more of a success than you could have expected, absolutely taking the internet by storm and still inspiring cosplay and fanart to this day. You play as Frisk, a boy who fell underground and discovers a world of monsters. These monsters all want to take him in because their king, Asgore, desires a human soul. It’s not all grim though because they’re mostly all big softies. In fact the game includes something called the ACT system, a system where instead of fighting enemies like a normal RPG game you can talk to them and appease them in differing ways each time. Perhaps something will happen if you can manage to spare each monster? Or… maybe if you kill every monster in the game? The game is also differentiated in its battles due to how attacking works. Instead of just taking damage attacks will have a short minigame play out where you’re able to dodge each attack, potentially dodging everything if you’re skilled enough. The game is also revered for its humour style and legendary soundtrack composed by Toby Fox himself.

Both of their tales get worse due to a simple desire of a Yakuza clan: to get a piece of empty land worth millions of yen. The game is a brawler with four styles to choose between for both Kiryu and Majima and you can even pick up items such as bicycles, signs and benches to fight with. Lest you think this game is 100% serious, all the time, the game also has numerous side activities such as karaoke, pool, darts, real estate management and side quests that can get… weird, to say the least. These tonal shifts between the serious and ridiculous are what Yakuza is all about and a big reason why they’re very popular today.

Half-Life	Half Life was released in 1998 developed by Valve and published by Sierra Studios for Windows. The first title in the Half Life series, this 1998 first person shooter helped to change the FPS industry by having a non linear narrative with the world view being seen from one character all the time. The simple gameplay, advanced graphics, unique story and artifical intelliegence of NPCS helped to solidfy Half Life as a unique first person shooter game that has stood the test of time and has gone on to launch one of the highest rated FPS gaming series with each future title breaking new boundaries into experimental gaming technology. From the realistic physics engine of Half Life 2 to the virtual reality engine of Half Life: Alyx, none of those games would be possible without Half Life.
Portal	Portal is a deceptively simple physics based puzzle game released as part of Valve’s Orange Box collection. It has a simple goal: think with portals. In various different test chambers you solve different puzzles using a portal gun able to shoot one portal in one place and another in another spot. As you play more and more elements get introduced to you and you begin to notice… strange things in the chamber you’re in. The game has become a classic for not only its level design but the intelligent writing and eerie atmosphere as well. A huge amount of early internet culture and memes was spawned from the witty writing and many other games have been influenced by it as well. Following Portal, Valve didn’t just authorize a sequel in 2011’s Portal 2 (also available in this collection) but spin-offs such as Bridge Constructor: Portal and Aperture Desk Job as well.

God of War	God of War was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and quickly cemented God of War as the biggest PlayStation exclusive series out there. It follows Kratos, a Spartan warrior on a quest for bloody revenge after he was tricked by the gods of Olympus to kill his own family. Numerous elements from across Greek mythology are commonplace through out the world of the game. It’s known for a fixed camera angle and intensely brutal hack ‘n slash action which influenced a huge amount of games of the era and games still being made today. To this day Kratos is still considered Sony’s mascot, even if he’s a little more brutal than, say, Nintendo’s Mario.

Dark Souls	The successor to the 2009 game Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls is known for its unique gameplay, aesthetic and being really, really hard. Despite (or maybe because of) the brutality of its bosses and grimdark medieval inspired world it’s inspired a whole franchise and genre of games inspired by it and it’s level design. The game has a heavy reliance on stamina management and a huge variety of different spells, classes, and weapons, allowing you to customize your build of the main protagonist, the Chosen Undead. While it can seem intimidating you still have people online who can help you out for some of the tougher bosses. Or tell you to jump off of every cliff you see in the game. That too.
E.T. the Extra Terrestrial	One of the most infamously bad games of all time is here!… well it doesn’t sound very exciting when you hear it like that… ET the Extra Terrestrial is a tie-in game with the 1982 Steven Spielberg film of the same name created by Atari for their Atari 2600 system. You play as ET, an alien stranded on earth searching for home being pursued by people who want to kidnap and study you. You travel through various different screens searching for three parts of a telephone, avoiding puts all along. ET was a commercial failure to the point that hundreds of copies were buried in landfills, and it’s partly blamed for causing the 1983 video game crash in America, an event video games took years to recover from due to the low quality of most games on the market. Since it’s here in the ultimate game collection I guess you can see if it’s really all that bad.
Assassin's Creed II	Assassin’s Creed II directly follows the story of the first Assassin’s Creed. It has Desmond Miles escaping a test chamber and learning he is of a secret order of assassins in an ancient conflict with the Templars, an order with the goal of taking over the whole world to instill order in it. In order to help the order he must use a device called the Animus to relive the memories of Ezio Auditore, an assassin living in 15th century Italy and retrieve an ancient artifact. The bulk of the gameplay consists of stealth, action, and exploring extremely accurate recreations of cities like Florence and Venice as they looked in the Renaissance era. These recreations have even been praised by historians for their accuracy and the game also features numerous famous historical figures of the era such as Leonardo DaVinci, Niccolo Machiavelli, and Rodrigo Borgia (later known as Pope Alexander VI). It even has an in-game database for anyone who might want to learn more about the real people and locations behind this game. Assassin’s Creed is currently one of the best selling series of all time with games spanning time periods from the American revolution to Victorian England to even ancient civilizations like Egypt or Persia, and many people say Assassin’s Creed II was where it truly picked up.
Okami	Okami is a cult classic action adventure game released in 2006 for PlayStation 2 by Capcom’s Clover Studios, later rereleased for the Wii system. In a long, sweeping adventure across ancient Japan with a beautiful cel shaded artstyle, you play as a reincarnation of the goddess Amaterasu in a wolf form and her helpful(?) small grasshopper-like guide Issun. Your journey is long and takes you to many places but your main goal is to find every god to collect Amaterasu’s celestial brush techniques to take on the evil Orochi (or maybe something more sinister?). The main hook with the game is the celestial brush. By using a brush Amaterasu can paint things like bridges or bombs to help her get places and solve puzzles, or even to fight demons in combat. The game was influenced by the adventure of The Legend of Zelda series with action from the Devil May Cry series, all put together for an epic tale.

Chrono Trigger	Chrono Trigger was created in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as a collaboration between Squaresoft and Enix and the “dream team” of Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Hori, and Akira Toriyama, three men who created and designed Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, the two biggest and most influential RPG’s out there. Their collaboration is now considered to have surpassed even those two series in quality and scope and is now considered one of the greatest RPG’s of all time. It’s deceptively simple story follows a young boy named Crono as he gets trapped in the past alongside his friends Marle and Lucca. The three are then forced to become heroes as they go back to the present and fight an evil mage named Magus… Who might be hiding some secrets about their world. Your journey takes you to many time periods including the Middle Ages, the future, the ice age, and prehistoric times, and paints a huge sprawling world with it’s story. Inspired from the National Videogame Museum decor, the theme of the Ultimate Game Collection will be museum themed. Basically, there will be different exhibits themed about different genres. You get to see various boxarts of the video games, instruction manuals, commercials/ads, interviews from developers of the video games, see concept art, etc. You are also able to view a museum guide to take you directly to an exhibit for one of the video games in the collection. The museum is a 3D environment you can walk in with different rooms dedicated to each decades. Maybe even some other rooms for bonuses and some other fun stuff outside. Each game is on an arcade machine. This is partly inspired by those haunted PS1 demo discs things

Reveal Trailer:
A tribute to the Japanese ads for Super Mario All Stars. It would begin with Mario and Master Chief walking towards eachother, with the implication being that they're about to duke it out. Instead, however, they shake hands; think the Sora trailer for Smash. Shortly after, they look towards the camera as a spotlight appears and a vigorous applause starts. Steve from Minecraft appear behind them (in a suit and tie), and begins laying down red carpet into a massive building that resembles a theater. Mario and the Chief walk down that red carpet, as do some of the other characters featured in this compilation (such as Ellie, Ryu, Sonic, and the Heavy). Basically, I am thinking the layout of the museum should be by era of video games just like the National Videogame Museum in Texas. Therefore, you can explore how video games evolved and what not. This game is just a big archive of some of the most influential video games ever in the industry.

Submit An Action-Adventure Game And/Or Sports Game

Action-Adventure is a pretty broad category so a lot of games would likely be included here, from GTA to Metroid to The Legend of Zelda basically if it fits the broad categorization of those games and isn't in any other genre we've had a job on before it counts. Sports games on the other hand are pretty self-explanatory, any games where the primary focus is to play a digitized version of a real-life sport. Chess games don't count because (spoiler alert) we'll have a job for strategy games later down the line.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

I started to make a writeup for Spider-Man 2018 at one point, but why not submit the first game that popularized action-adventure superhero games? Batman: Arkham Asylum by Rocksteady is often praised as one of the best portrayals of Batman and Gotham's rogues gallery, period. Plot twists and turns, cool gadgets, unique (for the time) combat, and one of the late Kevin Conroy's most memorable performances. Or from any of the voice actors, really - it's a fantastic cast. The stealth combat, while it's been done better in other games, is really, really fun. The game's pretty beginner friendly too, so not a bad inclusion in the context of this collection.

Hey, boxing's a sport!
Honestly, I don't have a lot to say here. This game's incredibly polished and pretty hilarious. Given how a lot of it is just improving on the original NES game, I don't think there's a reason to include the Wii game's predecessor before it.

Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of time

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a action-adventure video game made by Nintendo on Nintendo 64 back in 1997 and it's about Link, a Hyrulian who is on the quest to stop the evil king Ganondorf, by traveling through time and navigating dungeons and an overworld.
The game introduced features such as a target-lock system and context-sensitive buttons that have since become common in 3D adventure games.

I feel that it would make sense to include Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time game, since it was considered as one of the greatest zelda games of all time. Plus it was a first 3D Zelda game ever made and many people know about this game to this day.
(I mean, we could also have NES Zelda game, but I've chose the OoT to have a N64 game in our collection)

Tony Hawk Pro skater

Tony Hawk's pro skater is a video game made by Neversoft and published by Activision. The player takes control of Tony Hawk (real-life skateboarder), who must do skateboard tricks while riding on it. This game spawned many sequels because it was very successful game.

This game would be first licensed game to appear in our game collection.
(I mean, skating is technically a sport though, so why not?)

Metroidvanias are a huge sub genre of action-adventure games and Super Metroid practically invented the genre. Its aesthetic is to this day practically unmatched by any other game and it popularized the idea of environmental storytelling in games as well.

Tough choice between this and Wii Sports for me but I went with this instead. The first hockey game made by EA, it is super fondly remembered today and helped popularize having real athletes in games along with the other EA sports games.

i choose one of most famous Sony franchises,God of War of PS2 shows a angry spartan ghost called Kratos that is quest of revenge against the greek gods,the game is a Hack n' Slash on the same style of Devil May Cry but without the guns. i wanted to put God of War 3,but i think the first game is very important for the series.

Adventure

This game is THE great grandfather of the action-adventure genre along with the fantasy genre. I do not believe we have any Atari games yet on the roster of games for this compilation but I feel Adventure perfectly fits this genre. Plus, this game had the first Easter egg ever in pop culture and was also a huge plot point in the cheesy novel and its movie adaption, Ready Player One. Therefore, without this game, lots of series such as The Legend of Zelda and The Elder Scrolls would not exist.

Sports Game:

Wii Sports

Moving two decades after the launch of Adventure, my sports title is none other than Wii Sports. this video game was the bundle title for the Nintendo Wii. This game was a major factor in the Wii's success alongside GameSpot in 2019 calling this game one of the most influential games of the 21st century due to its accessibility and its long-term impact for Nintendo and other hardward designers. Heck, we even got the Matt from Wii Sports meme out of this. I feel a game with broad appeal deserves to be a part of a big compilation like this. Therefore, look no further than Wii Sports.

The defining title of the 2D platformer genre, Building off of previous titles featuring the then-ambigious Mario character and taking heavy cues from Namco's Pac-Land, Super Mario Bros. brought the side scrolling platformer into the mainstream and established Nintendo as THE gaming company for quite some time with it's tight platforming and creative secrets. Almost every Nintendo console since has featured some iteration of the game, while the original sprite artwork and sound effects continue to pop up in Nintendo titles to this day. With the Ultimate Game Collection, it can finally be experienced legally on Sony and Microsoft hardware.

From simply creating rows of blocks, this game was a world wide phenomenon. In fact, Tetris has been published by several companies for multiple platforms, Nintendo most notably for their GameBoy. With the Ultimate Game Collection, you can gain the Tetris effect just by reliving the puzzle experience.

DOOM
DOOM is one of the earliest FPS games and it was developed by ID Software. Coming off the heels of the highly influential Wolfenstein 3D, ID Refined the design philosophies they established there and also with the help of new technology they created DOOM. The legacy of this game has endured over the years due to its high replayability and the fact that the game does not require that much power, allowing it to be played on basically anything with a screen and CPU.

I'll do a profile for Street Fighter II for today:
After the decently faring Street Fighter, Capcom followed it up with the hugely successful sequel Street Fighter II, featuring both playable characters: Ryu and Ken, returning alongside Street Fighter's main villain Sagat, and a whole host of new fighters from around the world. This game features much smoother controls and easier to pull off special moves which made it a hit that gave 1-on-1 fighting games the push they needed to truly become a successful genre and even a competitive e-sport!
