I just want to say... LOLEVO2K8. Really? That's the argument? A MK ban, even in the eyes of anti-ban, will NEVER be the same as an item ban. Playing with items? Lolsauce. Playing with MK? Well... still lolsauce, but not nearly as bad.
You seem to be missing the point, what I'm saying is it is possible for events with that much money on the line to be perceived as illegitimate (ex. Evo).

Not necessarily as totally illegitimate but there are degrees, and my concern is that it will be enough to not be the unifying force that the community desperately needs.

Cutter's post is still the best and more accurate post in this thread.

We are screwed either way.

I'm so glad I'm still affluent in Melee's language.

Hah, it's good to know that post didn't go to waste then. :p

Looking back on that post (which was before the MLG announcement), depending on whatever the rule set will be, we will finally get to see what high level Brawl is like with literally tens of thousands of dollars on the line. No longer will it be for a few petty C-notes.

And the pessimist in me sees MK upping the gayness to an incomprehensible magnitude.

DELICIOUS VICTORY.

Metaknight will not be banned in Orlando: It was a decision that was not taken lightly. We always feel MLG brings the competition to a new level. So we wanted to give the community the opportunity to showcase their "A" game before making a decision that cannot be easily undone. So if, and when, this happens we feel we gave everything fair opportunity and are doing the right thing for the competitive nature of brawl. In addition this is not a change we would like to make mid-season. But we at MLG have always tried to do best for by the game and community competitiveness wise. So if its something that truly needs to happen, we am not completely shutting the door.
Well, that's that folks.

ETA: Can we start experimenting with MK-banned side events and stuff now, as opposed to low tiers or something? Data-gathering would be pretty cool.

ETA2: Now can we lock this monster?

Hm, from a purely practical viewpoint this is probably the "most correct" way to go about things.

The only question that now remains is "how has the SBR-B/MLG decided to deal with the fact that MK IS broken without limitation?". Will they limit him with a ledgegrab rule? Go for comedy and let him run free and see what happens? Do some other stuff that I can't think of?

I'll be looking forward to that official ruleset for sure :)

hurray, another boring live stream :D
I think you are implying Brawl is somehow more enjoyable to watch when Falco is camping lasers for eight minutes, or something.

Honestly, MK's inclusion won't really speed up the game or make it any more 'interesting.' As time goes on play will become increasingly camping-based due to the nature of how good shielding is in the game.

Yeah brah let's create a problem we're trying to stop :o
The idea behind what he said is to solve the problem by making it worse; through doing so lessening opposition to the problem's solution.
I am hoping on this post.
I wouldn't hope too hard :p. A SBR-B ruling contradicting the current MLG ruleset would be pretty disastrous, and very possibly lead to the fabled community split that we're trying to avoid. At the very most I could see the SBR recommending MK banned tournaments start taking place for data collection purposes.... though I wonder how efficacious that would even be at this point when strictly speaking attending such a tournament would be a waste of time, seeing how you wouldn't be getting proper metagame practice for $MLG$ events.

You're correct, but what I'm saying is that announcement doesn't tell the whole story.

Silly pro-ban, dying for MLG to ban him.
I'm pro-ban, but I was always hoping MLG would keep him legal, because it would be crazy for our first piece of exposure to mainstream to be a bunch of Halo players saying "Wait, they banned a character?" Pro-ban only makes sense once you know all the facts and data. Therefore, it makes sense to keep him legal when expanding to new people, then ban him later to retain the old.

@Adum, thanks for handling this in a very proper manner.

Also, people, this is a good thing for both sides, depending of course on what additional measures are brought about that may or may not limit MK. If there are very few limitations, and MK wins, it will be a good argument for ban. If there are few limitations and MK doesn't win, it shows that despite theorycrafting, MK at the top of the current metagame is not broken enough to be unbeatable, even with planking and other stalling rules. If they decide to limit him, and he wins, then it shows (depending on the limitations) whether or not he is ban-worthy in his superiority over the rest of the cast, and if he loses with the limitations, it shows that they are effective, and (depending on the limitations) easily enforceable.

Anywho, I think that until after MLG, there really isn't a point to this discussion anymore XD

I can already tell how it's going to work out.

ADHD places first, M2K second, Ally 3rd, and random high-level MKs get like 4-12. Then anti-ban will hold on tightly to the whole idea that you can get as good as ADHD/Ally, pro-ban will be left looking like idiots screaming "OUTLIERS" at a situation similar to a hurricane hitting the ****ing himalayas.

I think I should start figuring out TOs to PM for OMBR.
