yeah whut, nintendo havnt leeched off you or sold out or anything.
do you want gaming to turn into you coming over to play guitar hero 72 on my playstation 28?

you cant just do the same thing over and over, or it gets stale, so at least they are trying new things, nintendo have always tried new things, they are all about lnnovation, and laugh at innovation and creativity all you like, but its the hardest thing in the world to do.

also fyi the wii is the 3rd best selling console in the world, behind ps1 at spot #2 and ps2 and spot number #1.

also fun fact, the playstation was orginally a nintendo design, and they approched sony with a partnership offer, but they ****ed up on the contract which left a loophole that let sony take it all
lol gread job nintendo.

Point being they have their influence on everything, nintendo have done so so much for gaming for over 25 years now, they deserve alot of respect no matter what you think of the wii or the wiiu, and you shouldnt think anything of all untill you play that one.

Syke does make a good point about games though, there isnt a whole left once you sift through all the bad stuff.
The sales quote on the Wii was current generation, not of all time. Same with DS as I believe GBC has outsold the DS still.

Also Luke, refresh yourself a little on the history of Nintendo vs Sony with the original Playstation, as taken from Wikipedia:

PlayStation was the brainchild of Ken Kutaragi, a Sony executive who had just come out of his hardware engineering division at that time and would later be dubbed as "The Father of the PlayStation".

The console's origins date back to 1986 where it was originally a joint project between Nintendo and Sony to create a CD-ROM for the Super Famicom/SNES console.

The PlayStation made its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in June 1991 when Sony revealed its console, a Super Famicom/SNES with a built-in CD-ROM drive (that incorporated Green Book technology or CDi). However, a day after the announcement at CES, Nintendo announced that it would be breaking its partnership with Sony, opting to go with Philips instead but using the same technology.

The deal was broken by Nintendo after they were unable to come to an agreement on how revenue would be split between the two companies.

The breaking of the partnership infuriated Sony President Norio Ohga, who responded by appointing Kutaragi with the responsibility of developing of the PlayStation project to rival Nintendo.

At that time, negotiations were still on-going between Nintendo and Sony, with Nintendo offering Sony a "non-gaming role" regarding their new partnership with Philips. This proposal was swiftly rejected by Kutaragi who was facing increasing criticism over his work with regard to entering the video game industry from within Sony. Negotiations officially ended on May 1992 and in order to decide the fate of the PlayStation project, a meeting was held in June 1992, consisting of Sony President Ohga, PlayStation Head Kutaragi and several senior members of Sony's board. At the meeting, Kutaragi unveiled a proprietary CD-ROM-based system he had been working on which involved playing video games with 3D graphics to the board. Eventually, Sony President Ohga decided to retain the project after being reminded by Kutaragi of the humiliation he suffered from Nintendo. Nevertheless, due to strong opposition from a majority present at the meeting as well as widespread internal opposition to the project by the older generation of Sony executives, Kutaragi and his team had to be shifted from Sony's headquarters to Sony Music, a completely separate financial entity owned by Sony, so as to retain the project and maintain relationships with Philips for the MMCD development project (which helped lead to the creation of DVD).

FFXIII runs better on PS3 for sure. There are some rare instances where the 360 version will have a superior framerate (the 360 version actually has higher res textures in some places too) but other than that the ps3 version is superior in every way. Thats not surprising really since the 360 version is a port of the ps3 version.

Oh and I finished Portal 2 just now and its pretty awesome :)

yeah that sounds more like it red, except there was deffinently something in there about sony using a loophole to take the project off nintendo after nintendo tried to change to phillips, as nintendo then tried to sue them but failed.

As for the Wii, I wasnt talking about any current quote, it is, or at least was as of last time the figures were updated, the 3rd Best selling console of all time behind the ps1 and 2

Also Redact I had no idea Wii was number 1 in sales. I always assumed it was dead last.

And yeah, I realise there's more money in casuals, but it still hurts being sold out like that. Nintendo pretty much leeched off us gamers until it was strong enough to abandon us in the pursuit of more profitable targets. We made Nintendo what it is today and this is the thanks we get...?
Well, I think the whole "Rainbow Bryte vs. the World" thing's a bit over the top; but your thinking is a little bit misguided.

Nintendo hasn't leeched off anything. They made games that appealed to people.

If they didn't make games that appealed to the majority, they'd fail as a business, so it's not fair to say "omfg nintendo you leeched off us" when the Wii still has a number of quality titles for "hardcore" gamers.

Sure, not as much as the Xbox or PS3 (Though most of their "hardcore" games are generic FPS' anyway), but it's still a healthy number. Even if you have to shift through a lot of shovelware.

there are no hardcore games these days anyways, they are all ****ing piss easy and you usually do them within 20 hours, sometimes even 1 sitting.

Hardcore games are the games of old that show no mercy, and have you screaming in rage and punching the tv.

Yeah, the definition of "hardcore" has changed.

Just like how games need online play and stuff now, whereas they never used to.

Oh my goodness yes!

I'm not satisfied with a game unless it makes me do these things.
No save points, perfect reaction time or die, one hit kills while the enemy takes 2000 hits. These kind of things.

Sony had a deal with Nintendo and Nintendo then later realised that the deal was giving too much credit/power/liscence/something to Sony so they backed out and went with Phillips. Nintendo owned the rights to the name of one of the projects they were working with called "Play Station". After the whole court stuff happened, Sony licensed the name "Playstation" to use for their home console.

I dont remember the exact specifics but its something like this, theres a page on wiki about it somewhere. But yeah, kinda funny how everyone associates "Playstation" with Sony when the name has its roots in Nintendo :p

I dont expect people to know these facts. And of course they associate ps with sony, why even mention that. I was just pointing out the irony of the fact that the name comes from Nintendo - one of their biggest competitors.

So basically what we need is a game where your opponents are infinitely good and kill you in one hit and have ridiculous amounts of HP, with barely any saving, NO assistance, but fantastic gameplay where you're like "dayum this feels smooth to play" for the 15 seconds you are playing before you die each time.

Also there need to be a multiplayer where nomatter what anyone does, everyone loses.

Give I Wanna be the Guy multiplayer and you've got the perfect game.

I think the Xbox and PS3 have sold about the same.

Except in Japan Xbox has only sold like, 500,000.

So Xbox must be more popular in the west.

yeah, 360 only really seems popular in north america. they outnumber PS3 sales like 2:1

in aus it's more of a 50/50

in any case, 360 is unpopular with aussie smashers

my beef with 360 are the controllers.

dumb big ugly mother ****ers, and that stupid dip in the stick hurts my thumb (i do have a 360).

Honestly I've been getting a lot of play out of my PS3 lately. Seems like they are releasing a lot of very nice titles on it, while 360 is all like lolsup kinnect gaiz!

I don't understand how anyone can hate on the Xbox 360 controllers. They're awesome.

The original Xbox controllers were worse. And the PS3 controllers are ugh.

Hey Tim, the Jaguar Controller is pretty bad, but cut it some slack; at least it blends!

I don't own a 360 but I went out of my way to get a 360 controller to PS3 adapter because PS3 controller sticks are so damn loose.

Loose? I've had my controller for yonks and it isn't nearly as loose as say my old N64 controller.

I much prefer the joystick placement on the Ps3/2 controllers compared to the 360.
