Haha, funny you say that...MLG has been having events in Orlando for a few years now. So now you know :). Also, L...O....L at anyone who isn't glad this happened.

If MLG picks up brawl for the 2009 circuit...look forward to good times guys.

ALSO:

This is true, but MLG doesn't care about a game that not nearly as many people play on a system that's dead. And don't say that cube games are backwards compatible with the Wii; that has nothing to do with it. The wii is the most popular video game console of all time, so it only makes sense that MLG pick up the wii's most popular competitive game.

The "bring back melee" requests are sort of ridiculous. Like AZ mentioned, do you see MLG running Halo 1 and Halo 2 tournaments? No. There are people out there who hate Halo 2 because it doesn't have the pistol, and who hate Halo 3 because there's no double shot/BXB/BXR/etc.

Just to throw it out there...loved MLG's melee tournaments. MLG DC was fun as hell, chicago was AMAZING...oh man I hope they pick up brawl for the 09 circuit....but all I'm saying is, it doesn't make sense for MLG to bring back melee when it can pick up brawl. Commercially and financially.
This is an awesome post. If I could I would sig it.

can we get MLG melee tournies pleassseeee. im sure we all want some of those.

edit: why the hell cant MLG run both melee and brawl??? thats how most tournies are held now. to say thats it dum is dum. melee and brawl are 2 totally diffrent games. to compare it to halo 1,2, nd3 is really dum. halo changes include weapons and stages right? (never played halo) melee and brawl are differently in a bagaillion different ways, technically especially. i think melee deserves its own tournies because the hard core melee fans wont play brawl. although the brawl noobs will make up for them, the more experienced melee players make things more fun. who wants to play some random kid that just happened to live in new york at an MLG tourney?

Every Halo game is different in a "bagillion" ways too, which is why some players of Halo 1 hate halo 2, and some players of halo 2 hate halo 3.....each game had changes in physics and advanced techniques or glitches used throughout the community to make it more competitive...sounds familiar, Hmmmm......

Even disregarding that, you didn't understand the comparison.

What I was saying is that despite cries to bring Halo 1 and 2 back onto the circuit for a looong time, it never happened. It shouldn't have, and it didn't. The biggest game (brawl), with the biggest fanbase (brawl) for the biggest selling console (the wii) should get picked up. Not melee.

ALSO:

You sound exactly like the Halo 1 players complaining about Halo 2, or the Halo 2 players complaining about Halo 3. And in that respect, you'll end up in one of two groups just like they did: The group that continues to play a game that will be dead very soon, or the group that accepts the game they love has moved on in the form of another game they may not like as much. Either play it on the biggest competitive stage (which IS mlg), or go to a local tourney.

I'm just being realistic; MLG will 100 percent never again pick up super smash bros melee. Ever. Quote me. I'm done destroying negative reactions in this thread. Continue on with the wonderfullness that is this news....

Melee changed characters and stages.

You probably haven't seen a MLG tourney before..like at the circuit. They don't have time to do both probably. They have 3 days and to do singles/doubles in brawl is a lot already.

This could be huge for Brawl's competitive scene, I look forward to seeing what happens.

to be able to run melee and brawl simultaneously would be awesome. although they would need a huge venue. but then it would mean people like m2k couldnt dominate them both. and it would take around the same amount of time. maybe im just talking non-sence but i think its a good idea.

lol at commentary for brawl. lame.

they should go back to melee.
Agreed. Commentary for Brawl would go something like this

"There goes PC with another F tilt to get him off the ledge. Now PC Chris goes for the mortar slide. M2K makes it back to the ledge....now there both shielding.....sidesteps......a nice u tilt by pc!

Heres another hit! another shield by m2k....and some camping by PC!!" haha Brawl is crap.

First act with the new SWF: Make a Melee Back Room. Please.
Agreed.

Melee's done with the "big" scene. It's Brawls turn to shine now.
Scrub. You know whats really funny about Brawl players? A good 90% of them are either

-Smash Noobs
-Smash Journeyman
or
-Smash Apprentices haha. Just go take a look at any Brawl tournament listing and you'll see what I mean.

*cough*http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=186283*cough*

Melee may not be everywhere like Brawl, but there are still plenty of big tourneys. It's not like people don't want to play Melee. People just aren't hosting as much as Brawl.
I like you! and....

The revial and strength of Melee now revolves around we the people. If your area is not motivated to play Melee...they wont play Melee. This can be resolved by doing simple things such as doing weeklies, biweeklies, smashfests, and maybe tournaments if you want to that are JUST MELEE. If you want Melee to be revived in your area...it can be....but its up to you guys. Melee is not going to waltz back in the world on its own now.

anyone know whats going on with the avatars?
Yes, I 'd like to know the answer to this as well. Step it up MLG.....Step it up.

i support a melee return to MLG, it will be a much better competitive game then brawl. At the same time i'm interested at Brawl's chance in competitive gaming because it really isn't as competitive. The simplicity of the game just makes it not as entertaining to watch or play as to a melee match.

But sadly that's how it is going to be because it's a brand new game. :/

So MLG if you're reading this, bring melee back for a much more competitive game :D

I would just like to say I think the best possible MLG support would be Melee Singles, Brawl Doubles. In terms of a singles game Melee may be superior but in terms of doubles Brawl is definitely the superior. It would give equal play to both games and highlight both of their strong points.

Or we could just be like Joana and be ****ing ******* and not think things through at all.

Scrub? Just cause your a fanboy doesn't mean you have to be inconsiderate. It's true. Brawl is just bigger then Melee now. Is Melee dead? No. But it's not "big" as it used to be. Maybe big wasn't the best choice of words for me. :ohwell:
I guess I'm for both of them in it if possible.
Let's stop before this begins. Agree?
*And I respect Melee as a whole. Just saying so you don't think I'm a Brawl fanboy. I personally like 64..but that doesn't have tournaments at all anymore(to my knowledge).:( *

Actually I think Jona at least described what he thought, and his views....whatever....

Better explanations than the kids above johning because they lose to spamming pits? LMAO...

From another thread:
Im gonna be honest, Melee Doubles is hella fun but I don't really like putting money into it. Despite the fact that players can become really good in double it really is a chaotic mess since its less "Team Strategy" and more "Two 1v1's on the same stage" Brawl's slower pace actually complements doubles more than anything as it allows players to react better to all things going on at once. Oh and there's no camping.
I still think this is the superior format. I've never been a fan of Melee doubles, I always would prefer if a tourney did another event instead like Low tiers or Crews. Doubles is not Melee's strong point

Jona is being ********. It has been stated that mindless Brawl flaming won't be tolerated in this thread and he ignored it. Im no fan of Brawls but I at least have it in me to show some respect to our new Insect Overlords.

running both games would be in mlgs best interest from a financial perspective
Wrong. Advertising, staffing, and collaboration would a meltdown. Melee had it's turn, let the brawl players have a chance. I, personally, don't care which wins, i just think Brawl is the way to go.

I'm glad the board is supposed to be kept the same way

I was concerned about the possibility of MLG not allowing advertising of non-MLG run/sponsored events on the boards since they don't allow it on mlgpro.com for Halo etc.

I think your really exaggerating there. MLG has the resources and competence to run multiple games without having a "meltdown". Brawl would still be the main focus, but there's no reason to deny melee if it still has a reasonable fanbase.

This is what I said 3 pages ago or whatever....lol. Glad someone knows what they're talking about.

Wouldn't we all love for melee and brawl to be on the circuit? I would. Just saying...that never happens. MLG would lose money if they "brought melee back".

Me and DM win this thread :D
