as far as tournaments go, would MLG only cover american tournaments?
In that sense, would australia be affected at all?

Australia wouldn't be hurt by a zombie outbreak. I think odds are always leaning away from you being involved.

Just as Brawl was dieing MLG picks up Brawl instead of Melee.

They should really just bring Melee back, most NE tournaments are Melee now. Whatever though, as long as smashboards servers get better it's all good.

I wonder how much the boards sold for.

This is the biggest sell out sense CNET bought gamefaqs:laugh:

I kid this is great news. Hopefully smash will be a bigger event in MLG.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Melee singles and Brawl doubles.

MLG is big and rich and full of money.
Aw yeah.

Zombies can walk on the bottom of the ocean, silly. They would be slaughtered in a rush of deafening blood like the rest of us. :)

Smashboards was already big, but seeing MLG get involved just made it better. I suppose I saw this coming, due to all this MLG talk and spotted an admin whose name is actually mlgpro.

I am hoping they will hold some good tourneys around the country, relatively in the Southern Region.

As long as they don't do something silly to this forum, I'm fine for what they are trying to do.

I think this is awesome, mainly because MLG comes to Toronto now! I can finally go to an event!

Also, it would be amazing if they picked up Melee and Brawl. It's not likely, but still. Come on, two non-shooters to counter the sheer amount of M$ shooters would be nice.

But as long as they pick up Brawl I'm good :)

This is pretty awesome...I'm hoping (with fingers crossed) that they'll try to keep Melee alive as well as ensuring Brawl's growth. I wanna try competitive Melee, too, but I don't really know the margin of possibility that this could happen because I don't really know how existant competitive Melee really is at this point (I just got a Smashboards account only a month ago, so I really only know Brawl's competitive scene). I've been playing the Smash franchise ever since the original Smash for the N64, but I was introduced to competitive Smash just a month or two before Brawl's release, so I never really got a good shot at Melee.

But yeah...this is definitely good news.

LOL, one Mass Madness goes with Melee and Skyler thinks its the entire Northeast.
Mass Madness, Esticle, Long Live Hitstun and roughly 0 Brawl tournaments (although mass madness has Brawl singles it has Melee singles and doubles).

NE = New England to all us New Englanders.

XIIesticle was Brawl, and unless I missed something that was the last Esticle that occured.

Cataclysm, whenever it happens, will have Brawl.

Cataclysm will indeed be Brawl, and should be happening December...
Im interested in whether this is going to be another grassroots circuit, or with the normal circuit
Regardless this is fantastic news
But skler is right, new england has almost no interest in brawl, its depressing
We can only hope this helps

I don't think that this will change the direction of tournaments. It seems likely that the purchase will lead to "PLATINUM" memberships.

If all goes as I expect, you should see what I mean.

sorry to ask, but what do you mean by "PLATINUM" memberships?

This is not a bring back Melee thread. Posts to that nature will receive warnings. Not every topic in should get sidetracked by the die hard Melee players.

Skyler: you may be right, but I wouldn't judge any region on just a couple months of playing, there were lulls in Melee where it felt like the competitive scene was going to die completely, heck, people were predicting this at the end of 2006.

Dude, it's basically the only competitive game on (far, far and away) the world's most popular console. Of course MLG is going to pick it up, though I don't know if I see them picking melee back up, but who knows.

Anyway, I'm glad to see MLG getting involved and it makes me lol at all the "brawl is a competitive failure" comments. :chuckle:

Well, I'm not sure if there were any areas where Melee died, Brawl came (but then died), Melee came back and died, then Brawl came again...

My only question now is . . . will Melee be sponsored again <_<

If MLG becomes our SRK and helps run major tourneys of both games, or more importantly, promote both then I'm on cloud 9.
I concur with this.

Seriously, bring Melee back.

The fact that MLG is picking it up does not at all make the game better.

Woot for selling out! >_>

But in all seriousness, this is probably great for us and smash. Brawl on the 09 pro circuit would be sweet.

Since I'm new to the gaming community, can someone explain what a pro circuit is, and what (Exactly) does MLG does besides getting better servers???
www.mlgpro.com

Pro circuit is like a huge tournament in 4 to 5 cities, and when you win you get lots of money and points and then theres a play off.

Check out the site and go to FAQS, it explains it a bit better.;)

I am seriously hoping right now that MLG not only picks up Brawl, but revives Melee as well.

Red: such a post is alright.
Tee: not alright.

Again: This is not a bring back Melee thread. Posts to that nature will receive warnings. Not every topic in should get sidetracked by the die hard Melee players.

Both games are fine. But saying Melee over Brawl is naive, you don't see MLG running Halo 1 still do you? (don't answer that question, just be happy about MLG and forget the whole Melee Brawl thing basically)
