Arch pretty much has it down, and I just reset my Soldier (and I'm at work) so I can't see what I'm at.

In some ways, Fortification isn't that great. It doesn't buff your defense as much as Tech Armor. It taps out at 30% if you take all the buffs. It's not bad, but that means Fortification has to be on constantly to get that buff. And Inferno Grenades aren't that amazing.

Is it worthless? No. Neither are Inferno Grenades. The thing is, the Soldier really pales in comparison to his larger crested bro, the Sentinel (And if Barrier will be as awesome as I think it will, the Vanguard). So consider somethings before you make a build:

Durability, melee, or damage?

And if you go damage, recharge or refill?

Get back to me when you decide. I'll think of something. :)
Until I get Sentinel/Vanguard, I just want to have some extreme melee fun, lol.

The trick to Soldier Melee, is Fortification Purging.

For those of you lurking/tuning in/don't understand, that means that you when you start the game, you Hit the "Ability" button (Y, Triangle... KEY...something...). The next time you hit it, you've 'purged' your 'armor', and now it's on cooldown.

THAT'S when you get the Melee buffs from Fortification.

Since we're gonna purge Fort. so often, we want to bring ONE weapon. I recommend a shotgun, probably a Disciple, barring that, the Katana. Reason being, they're both light, and you can attach the Blade to it. Increasing more melee damage. Just remember that your Heavy Melee isn't affected by the Blade.

It should be obvious that in Fortification, you go Melee Damage.

Rage, you do nothing but MeleeDamage/MartialArtist/PureRage

I'd skip Carnage personally for this build. Going grenades gives you a quick option that has no cooldown. Since your popping Fort. a lot, you can still throw your grenades while on cooldown. Grenades I'd go in any direction really. But TAKE the armor debuff at the end. If you take Radius, in slot one, go damage in two. If you want to do a ton of damage, go Damage/Damage/ArmorDamage.

For the Krogan Berserker, I'd go Weapon, Power Damage, Shotgun. You CAN go capacity, but it's not necessary. The weapon upgrade helps your shotgun, the Power Damage helps your grenades. So taking PowerCapacity will help, but your hurt your shotgun, which, in a pinch, you need.

This build will dominate Bronze (at least it should). Silver is the limit I would take this into. Gold is death trap. It's doable, but you're lacking durability.

^Pretty much this. Krogan Soldier can be alot of fun. ALOT. I would suggest making him a bronze-silver character. Stepping up to gold and trying to melee people will get you killed and make you mad.

Yeah, but I don't think it would have made #1 consumer's report had it been for Mass Effect. I mean, this game caused such a huge **** storm, it appeared on Forbes, Yahoo, and non-related gaming journal sites.

I still think its debatable since with Kingdoms of Amalur, they locked out single player content with an "online" pass. That pissed off a lot of gamers. EA has been constantly getting worse and worse with its bull**** online passes.

I don't think "The Minority" Had much to do with EA's place at the #1 spot. They probably contributed but it takes alot of votes to get #1 by such a margin.

I think EA's policies in general of not caring about consumers or developers made them make the top of that list.

I've got a feeling that the rushed feel of the ending (lack of personal relation to choices, simplicity of the ending cutscene itself, etc) had a lot to do with EA pushing them to rush the game.

I dunno, I mean we're talking about a video game company to the likes of consumer giants like Walmart or Bank of America. If you ask me, I think you guys are doing either or...

1. Assuming that gamers voted heavily on this Consumerist poll.
2. Assuming that there may be more resentment towards other companies, but there isn't enough internet representation.

I myself will stick with 2.

Good lord. Those people should be THANKING Bioware for doing this. I swear, some people will just NEVER be happy no matter what you do.
pretty sure all those people were plenty happy with the first 99% of the game...

i don't want to pass judgement on the ending DLC before it comes out but it's got a lot to explain.

it's pretty messed up though if people voted EA as the worst company specifically because of ME3, since it's a very good game overall, just with a poor ending. but i think plenty of people hate EA regardless of ME3's ending.

I don't think ME3 was the only reason, but it's perfect timing for the **** storm ME3 brewed up when this survey started.

The problem with the Internet is people that go on it and do out of the ordinary things like go on gaming forums tend to have their views of the world skewed.

Things like everyone hates Justin Bieber, hackers that DDoS websites are freedom fighters of some sort, EA is the worst company in the world and anime being incredibly popular are things that generally seem to be what the majority of people think/agree with, but once the real world is brought into it you'll find out that this isn't the case, and a lot of the time the real world is the complete opposite of the Internet.

EA the worst company? On the Internet yes. In the real world? No.

Someone threw a water bottle at Bieber in real life. I haven't seen many people online say Anonymouse are freedom fighters. It does seem that a lot of people on the internet like anime. EA may not be the worst company in the world. But I'm sure a lot of people that don't post a lot on the internet probably dislike EA's online pass policy. (not to mention EA takes down mp servers for games that you have the online pass for).

Whoever it was that threw a water bottle at him still gave him their money beforehand, I don't know how much JB concert tickets cost but I'd let you throw a water bottle at me if you gave me the cost of a JB ticket fist.

Anyway the point was sometimes people need to get a bit of perspective, something that can be lost on the Internet. I mean I'm pretty sure your Bank of America is worse than EA, not that I'm defending EA, I've hated them for years I'm honestly astounded that it's taken this long for people to hate them too.

I use to love EA back in like 90s-early 2000s. I've actually been playing madden and NBA since it was on Sega. However, once the new age gamers showed up and they saw how much money could be made they got greedy like most people would. I can't blame them but I can't stand them either. Bank of America has yet to screw me over...yet...

honestly though back in the days the graphics weren't as good but the games seemed better to me overall to me. Nowadays there is 1 great game for ever 10 mediocre games and 25 completely ****ty games. I'm sure some people who've posted/lurked these threads can relate. Then again I'm sure there are some here who've never played a game that wasn't in 3D...at least one that wasn't a game on their phone.

anime being incredibly popular
I think this is a bad example because anime really is quite popular. Is it the most popular form of media? No, but it's still very popular.

Hahahahaha

Man, the 90's-early 2000's was when EA was the worst. They bought up companies, milked their ip's/took the rights to ip's for their own, then closed studios like crazy. Westwood studios is the most famous example, but that's just one of many.

On the Internet. Try mentioning you watch anime when you're at work, or out or anything like that. There's a lot of situations you could say "Oh yeah I watched The Walking Dead/Lost/Prison Break etc" but saying you watched an anime would just be plain embarrassing.

That funny meme picture sums it up best I think:

I'm honestly not sure if you're just trolling here or not, so I'm moving on.

Anyway, Mass Effect 1 is good! Combat sucks, but still.

Nah he has a point. On average, your usual American would know more about TV dramas or American based cartoons like Spongebob. Anime is a few steps down from that stuff.

Now if you go to Japan...that may be another story lol.

No, his point was that mentioning you watch anime in a conversation is embarassing. That does not equal nonpopularity; mentioning you do drugs is typically not done either.

I mean really. There's a huge market for it, no matter what Pluvia thinks. Yes, Spongebob and other shows are much more mainstream, but that doesn't mean that anime isn't actually popular.

Now can we get back to talking about Mass Effect? I'm done.

I don't think the use of "embarrassing" meant something to be ashamed of. He was comparing it to mainstream media, and how easy it is to use in conversation. To say both garner close to equal attention is "embarrassing."

Pretty much. The general point was something that's incredibly popular on the internet most likely doesn't translate over as well in the real world, so while EA might be the worst company in the world in Internet opinion, in real it most likely wouldn't be. All that anime stuff was just an analogy, yeah it's incredibly popular on the Internet, but in real it's no where near as popular.

Can't remember how we got into this discussion my heart isn't really in it I'm more interested in the DLC that'll be here in 12 hours. Really want to use a Batarian.

you seem to think the people online don't exist in reality and are all a part of an imaginary world. Once you hit the X on the browser do you think everyone else that is connected to the internet no longer exists?

as for anime discussion it depends on your age and the age of those you work with. If someone is in there 60s for example you probably won't be able to talk to them about anime. However they wouldn't be able to talk to you about disco music either.

I really didn't want to respond, but I saw this and /facepalmed.

He just said that things don't translate as well from the interwebs to the real world. He never said they were non-existent.
Unless you intended on something else, or I missed your point entirely, I would love to laugh it off...

And I never knew anime was popular... Though, someone has to explain to me what popular is. I think my personal definition is skewed.

(General anime popularity is maybe teens to the 20's, and somewhat early 30s, so we could stick to that scope.)

Krogan Vanguard is definitely going to be an OP class. I have a bad feeling people are going to go all out with it.

Unless BW, you know, releases some sort of super nerf patch.

Ugh, I hope Bioware doesn't nerf Krogan Vanguard but we'll see when that comes out. As for me I'm gonna start out using either Geth Infiltrator or Geth Engineer.

Definitely looking forward to the Geth.

I always thought Bioware was going to put them in eventually.

Considering that we're playing forces that were supposedly supporting Sheperd in the game, we should get to play as Ex-Cerberus.

Oh yeah speaking of multiplayer, I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but armour will reduce the amount of damage each bullet makes (it's 30 on silver and 50 on gold I think). So in other words, AR's and SMG's are severely handicapped on higher difficulties as they'll do something like 5 damage per bullet against armour whereas a pistol will do hundreds of damage per bullet, and the same goes for shotguns and snipers.

On gold the max damage a Mattock can do to armour with its 16 bullet clip is 1084.8, whereas the max a Paladin can do with its 4 bullets is 1749.6.

So yeah even the Mattock is worse than the Carnifex and Paladin.

Edit:

Oddly the Paladin even does a slight bit more damage than the Saber. Though the Saber can hold 8 bullets rather than 4, but then again I'm sure the Saber is much heavier.

Also apparently there's gonna be a patch today. It's just a small one that's all single player bug fixes, and this is the only one worth noting:

Fixed issues when in some cases Shepard’s customized facial features from ME1/ME2 may not be properly imported to ME3

Well, from the trailer here's some I noticed. This is just a rough guess, so don't take it be 100% accurate.

Asari Justicar:
Protective Field
Throw

Krogan Vanguard:
Charge

Batarian Soldier:
Fire-based attack (Incinerate? Carnage?)

Batarian Sentinel:
Ensnare type ability
Shockwave

Geth Infiltrator:
"Hunter Mode"

Geth Engineer:
Sentry Turret
Nova Variant?

You keep that frakkin' Nerf Bat away from my Murdertrain.

Besides, what I'm hearing through the grapevine, is that the skills are charge, Barrier, and Carnage.

Since Barrier handicaps the recharge speed, it's not a big deal. Krogans are slow. They can't roll.

It will be fine.

And OH so much fun.
