just got my hands on a current japanese tier list. basically they dont have anything that covers all of japan, but certain groups of friends and players come to a consensus. not all governing, but this list was complied by some of japans best.

Jigglypuff is not as bad as is written. Middle of E tier, imo. Defs above Ness.
I Agree with everything else except

Luigi - higher,
IceClimbers - higher (unless the cgs are malpractice in Japan)
and also Pit - under GaW
and also Zelda/Sheik - under ROB
Fox - right behind GaW

Otherwise it has my full support.

however that list does look VERY similiar to a rankings list (as in, tourney results only) since it has some of the same bizarre trends as the aussie one. Do you know how much of it was influenced by tourney results? i know some purists will say thats exactly how a tier list should be made, but that just turns it into a popularity contest etc :/

i was talking to one of the contributors (thats how i found it) and he said it was all from voting and discussion. no tournament results were used, apparently. although i dont see how they couldnt affect it in some way at least...

they think pit is amazing namely because ledge camping isnt despised as much there, and fox is amazing because... unless his opponents name is pikachu, he is amazing. and ics cgs are allowed, but most people are good enough to avoid grabs properly.

my main issue with the list is that fox has an unwinnable mu, pikachu, while no one else in the high/top tiers do. sure they have difficult ones, but fox v pika is like 95:5. a joke mu.

but they think he does well against mk and snake, which is handy considering they make up most tourney competitors and mk/marth/gw **** pikachu's before they can get to fox.

Sheik ***** fox apparently (is listed as 80:20 matchup).

"Sheik can ftilt lock Fox from 30% to death (finish with an up smash)."

ZeroSuitSamus also has a 0-death on fox if she lands a D-smash. So i dont see why he's THAT high.{unless both of those things are banned}. Fox is however one of the few characters that can kill early, and reliably... especially against MK, which would be a huge boon in a very defensive/campy metagame, so that might justify his placing. Fox is much higher in the mexican tier list aswell.

It's unusual for tier lists to have such an even spread of characters (should be more of a bellcurve in an ideal game). besides S and S+... goes 7, 6, 5, 5, 6, 5. Most of the official SBR ones have been similar though so idk.

Main things i disagree with on the list are: Icies, luigi, dk and sonic i think should be higher. Ive watched a lot of vids of japanese pits (masashi mainly) going even with all the high and top tiers, so that placement makes sense to me.
Conclusively, thanks alot for posting that attila, was interested to see a more recent japanese tier list.

and its not so much the matchup itself arrow (well it is and isnt) but its that 1 grab on fox is pretty much a kill right there that requires no tech skill whatsoever
