I'm curious as to why so many people have been posting the three 9th placers and the individual payouts now. Did the posting for results qualifications change? Or are people just posting alot of unnecessary information?

hyperstation, you answered your own question.

He used MK to counterpick a -very hard- matchup. i.e. 'counterpick'.

It's a players 'choice' and own conscience that determines their use of a character MOST OF THE TIME. And Ankoku brought that point up already to defy everyone else's argument. He listed himself as Ganon and shortly after changed when someone pointed out "you didn't use him at all in finals, or in any -important- matches". So Atomsk's own conscious decision was that he didn't really need Ganon, otherwise he would have argued for his placement.

This goes directly against your example.
Yes it all comes to guesswork when its about "counter picking", but humans can be rational, and the result was rationally made within two posts after the original. How can anyone argue the guesswork of whether he used a character to counterpick etc etc if the man himself agrees that he didn't use Ganon for that purpose.

If a result is posted with DDD/Olimar, and someone points out "Hey, you only used Olimar in the first round against a scrubby D3", and this point is 'agreed' upon; then Olimar doesn't deserve points.

Remember: This was sparked by someone saying "Hey you didnt -really- use 'that character'", not OMG ITS GANON IT CANNOT BE CORRECT.

Results are calculated through entry fee or payout total. But yes, people are posting worthless information.

The results qualifications didn't change. Some people just want to post the pay-outs for some reason. And some people think that large tournies should also include the people who got 9th when posting results because it can have little importance.

Ganon wasn't my key to wining any matches, in fact I barely won 2nd round because I went straight Ganon. I easily could have 2-3 stocked the players I used him on with DDD. I just wanted to use him since I just got down Thunderstorming XD

I just used him the same amount in which I used DDD, so I thought it counted. My mistake lol

Everyone who posted, but Ankoku and AZ are idiots XD

BTW when ever my results have DDD/Olimar listed, I do use Olimar in serious matches and win XD

wow man, ok let me break it down for you, ALL people don't main top/high tiers in tournaments just because they think it will help them win, there are many different reasons why people play the chars they do, you can't just overgeneralize it and say anyone who plays a low tier char only plays them for fun, your really discrediting alot of mid/low tier mains by saying that, go tell bwett that he only plays yoshi because its fun, tell xyro samus sucks and that he'd easily place higher in a tourney if he used falco, tell all the peach mains to go play MK because peach can only be played for fun not actual competetion.

@ ankoku, me personally, i main a plethora of characters BECAUSE i like to have the option to CP, i can tell you if i were to play an olimar i would always use peach, if im playing a MK i'll usually play DK, if its diddy or fox i'll play luigi, now i can't tell you what was going thru atomsk's mind, but maybe he really did think ganon would give him a better chance, but in reality, if you aren't using the char with the absolute best matchup against your opponent then technically couldn't it be said that you should have been using X instead of Y? im not saying your decision is wrong, its yours to make, but we really don't have an exact answer as to WHY atomsk used ganon in those matches. there isn't a solid reason here, people are just making up assumptions as to why he used ganon. i was never actually saying you should add him to the points, but rather to just not automatically discredit those matches just because you think that DDD would have done better, because in theory DDD will do better against EVERYBODY if your comparing him to ganon.

samus does suck....theres no arguing that.

however, i play smash to prove to others that LOW TIER characters are trash but they can compete and can do very well if played correctly.

As far as this ganon thing goes, I think as a community, we shouldn't discriminate results on an individual basis since theres no way to consistently check across the board if someone used character a for half the game, if they were doing it seriously to try and influence results or if they seriously meant to play them. That kind of subjectivity in the results I think would be too hard to enforce. Also, I think if atomsk said he used ganon seriously regardless of what everyone else says (and I say this as an example with full knowledge that atomsk admits he used ganon as a joke), then the results should automatically count since no one knows why certain people use certain characters. By gosh, I use ness against metaknight cause I think ness is the metaknight counter (joke...kinda).

In accordance to what the NZA said, I'd like to bring up a question:

I am somebody who uses three characters (ganondorf, kirby and G&W) pretty evenly spaced, and I use each character based on which character I think I'll be fighting (whether it be name recognition, studying my opponent, etc.). Now lets say, for example, I get past the first couple of rounds with Ganondorf (for some matchups, even if it's probably a lot easier to go Kirby/G&W against a particular character, if I can win it with Ganondorf, I will win it with Ganondorf). Now to get into the top 8, I have to get past two further rounds, and I know my opponents use, say, Metaknight and Olimar- two characters that my Ganondorf is not touching with a ten foot pole. Now if I get into the top 8, would Ganondorf count since I didn't use him in the "important matches" that led me to get top 8, even if I would whole-heartedly use him if I was fighting a different character?

I know Atomsk used Ganon as a joke, but the whole "not important in reaching the top 8" discussion is leaving a bit of a gray area with me, because some people take a whole lot of pride with low-tier mains, and they are committed to using them even if they have secondaries that probably have a much better chance of winning. I'd like to know what your thoughts are about this, AlphaZealot. I promise to carry myself in a civil manner if you disagree with me.

If a character was integral/necessary in winning a set for you, then it should be counted. You chose Ganondorf because you main him, apparently - and switch to Kirby/G&W against top8 matchups in a fashion similar to treating them as secondaries. I would count Ganondorf in that case.

At a certain point of your skill it won't matter if you needed a certain character to win or not, of course - that is, going through an entire tournament as Lucas just because you were that good compared to everyone else, I'd count it as Lucas because you didn't use anyone else anyway.

Ike does better against more of the cast than Ness (maybe? ) and there are more Ikes than Ness players but Ness has advantage over Ike..... so I dunno....
