EarthBound Beginnings has a really eerie aesthetic feeling to me, as do most late-lifespan NES games. The Wii U's weirdly dark emulation palette doesn't help.

Why did 90s games show you the game over screen when you quit the game? Was it to encourage speedrunning? were they really proud of their game over screens and wanted the extremely gifted players to see them somehow?

One thing I learned from reading reviews for Drawn to Life: Two Realms is that a lot of people have never played Super Mario Maker.

A lot of people shoot down the idea of Sega being better to fans than Nintendo with "Sega didn't pay the Mania devs!" even though... they did. They didn't get the profits of the game which is pretty bad, but they WERE paid on a development milestone basis. -
