There's a small part of me that, if we ever were to see a Smash "reboot" or something of the like, would love to see something of a unified musical identity even beyond just a visual one. The movement toward musical representation for the series almost entirely being gamerips with a few random hard rock or electronica arrangements is... understandable from a developmental and "representation" standpoint, but something like Melee's use of orchestral score or even 64's use of the same soundfont throughout really lent a sense of all of these disparate worlds coming together, in a sense.
...there's a not insigificant part of me who would also kill for the series' musical identity be more jazzy, perhaps with big band elements. Something like Buddy Rich's Nutville playing in the background while Mario, Kirby and Pikachu are having a fracas in Midgar just feels like it'd be a really fun way to capture the spirit of the gameplay while also just being a really interesting thing to imagine - so many games getting their music in such a style... it'd be a sight to behold! Or, well, a sound.
