I did some math and if each Smash game cut half of all veterans and added newcomers that were half of the number of cut veterans then Smash would either get 17, 26, 33, or 42 completely new characters, depending on if both Smash 4 versions have different rosters and if we count Ultimate in this thing. Leaving us with 124, 115, 108, or 99 total characters
Melee: 6 cut, 3 added
Brawl: 10 cut, 5 added
Smash 4: 18 cut, 9 added (x2 if both versions are different)
Ultimate: 32 cut, 16 added

Sure, The Mitten seems like a regular coaster... until you get to the part where the track goes slightly up, both raising you up and blocking your view of what comes next. Then, without any time to breathe, you're taken to the part where the track goes slightly down. And if that wasn't enough, the coaster goes through this part multiple times.

Okay tbh the feature that hides spoilers on Nintendo's music app is kinda cool. You think it'd be better if copyright came in 2 parts, distribution and derivative, where there are separate years for when you can distribute and create derivative works for something? Even if this system is in place, I still think copyright should be shorter though, but what length do you think they should have?

While I do think that copyright length should be shortened greatly, I will admit that I love digging in and finding out what really old things from the 20's, unrenewed things, and or things with the wrong copyright info are public domain

You ever think about we kinda have copyrighted characters that are sorta treated like public domain characters? Characters that have such legacies that they have been put into the cultural fabric but without a solid lore so people frequently experiment. Like with Scooby-Doo, most mainstream superheroes, and things where people "know" it's a thing but haven't actually consumed anything from it directly so they just have an "idea" on what it is.
Like, it seems every other adaptation is a "unique take" on these things. It's like they're treated like they're public domain but some CEO has to approve it. I feel like, when focusing on derivative works, being in the public domain will help these characters the most. Plus, more experimentation can take place since there isn't as much pressure as being the only new entry in the franchise. Would Shrek be as loved if it had to be an Officially Licensed "FairyTaleCo" product and was the only Fairy Tale media in 2001?

There should be custom battlefield/omega forms for stages where you can just place the platforms however you want. All the hard work with the visuals is already done, so this would let players play with much more options.

I think it's kinda interesting how when talking about media, "golden age" often refers not to when something was the best, but rather when the medium really started first getting popular enough to be mainstream and when people didn't really know what worked so they just experimented.
In my current platfighter concept, the most popular characters in no particular order are probably Tux the Linux Penguin, Dan Backslide, undecided Ur-Quan Masters rep, undecided Pixel Dungeon rep, Hatsune Miku, and undecided Emoji rep.

Interesting to think about how imagination when playing video games has changed. Back in the day when the Atari and probably NES were current, people were probably expected to put some work in when playing games, probably imagining something closer to the what's on the boxart as what's "actually" happening in the game world and that the things on the TV screen are just a representation. Pong is a tennis match and Asteroids is a ship in space. But now, when retro pixel art is seen as a distinct aesthetic in its own right, people think about what's happening in these games much more literally even if they know the proper context for them. Pong is two rectangles and a square and Asteroids is a triangle and some weird circles. -
