    3rd party characters should be judged only by how much history they have with Nintendo any how popular they are with the Nintendo community. Smash is about representing Nintendo history after all. Cloud and Joker didn't used to be very popular with the Nintendo community, but the Switch eShop version of FF7 sold very well and Joker now has at least 3 games on Nintendo platforms, so they are popular with the community now.

    The Duck Hunt dog and duck should be rivals instead of friends. The duck could stand in front of the dog at all times and they could have new attack animations that look like the dog is trying to attack the duck but he accidentally attacks the opponent. And this would be more faithful to the original game.

    Aside from Everyone is Here and a few new modes, Smash Ultimate is really lacking in other departments. The game's logo, title screen and menu screens look very lazy, the game's art style looks good in a vaccum but very bad compared to Smash 4, World of Light is a snoozefest of a story mode, unlocking every character one by one is painful and there's only 16 new stages. 16 is pitiful compared to Smash 4 which had more than 50.

    I personally disagree with the art style criticism and the logo is really not important to me at all, but totally agree with the lack of new stages, this is easily Ultimate biggest mistakes imo. The fact that Pokémon sun and moon got nothing still baffles me.

    As for World of light, I agree that it can become repetitive, but I still think it's much better than Subspace.

    There's something this community doesn't seem to realize: Cuts do not make the entire fanbase mad. They only make the fans of the cut characters mad. If a character you don't care about gets cut, there's no reason to be mad.

    Everyone is Here made people not want the series to continue because they don't want to risk having any cuts. People wanted Ultimate to exist after Smash 4 because they wanted the forbidden seven back, but now that everyone is here, there's a lot less people who want more Smash games and no more Smash games means our other MWs will never get in. I ALMOST wish Everyone is Here never happened.

    Why should returning veterans always be prioritized over newcomers? We have 89 characters, but there's at least a hundred other characters who also deserve to join, and we may not be able to fit them all in one Smash game. Some characters will just have to wait until the Smash game after the next one to come back. Losing your main is a tragedy, but so is not getting your MW.

    Now that Smash 6 is possibly on the way, who's excited for it to not have a stage from Kirby and the Forgotten Land? It's a great game that deserves to be rewarded with Smash content, but Sakurai hates any Kirby game he didn't direct.

    I don't think it comes down to Sakurai personally hating other games in the Kirby series. Obviously I can't speak to the objective truth one way or the other, but I would hazard it's less about "hate" and moreso that he's more familiar with the games he was responsible for developing, so feels more comfortable iterating on them in Smash's context. Just a guess, though.

    They should remake Subspace Emissary. It could be made from Ultimate's gameplay, every cutscene would be remade using Ultimate's art style and it could be sold as either a separate game or DLC for Ultimate like with XC2 and Torna the Golden Country. SSE has so little connective tissue with Brawl that it feels like a separate game anyway.

    Maybe the ARMS sequel should be titled ARMS-AGEDDON. It's more than just a sport now. Now the ARMS characters have to use their extendable arms to save the world.

    Rex needs to be in Smash 6. He was going to be in Ultimate anyway had the roster not been finalized so soon. And we could make him part of Pyra/Mythra's team. Whenever you use Rex, Pyra/Mythra will stand in the background like the Crafting Table and Rex's down special changes depending on how far away he is from them. When he's far enough away from them, his down special is calling them to come to him. And when he's close enough to them, his down special becomes going to the background and then Pyra/Mythra will get out of the background and you'll play as them. And their down special would work just like it does in Ultimate, except when they're close enough to Rex, their down special becomes going back to the background while Rex gets out of the background and you'll play as him again. This would kinda sorta be how we originally wanted Rex & Pyra/Mythra to work and Pyra/Mythra mains will still be able to use them.

    I think I’d prefer if, assuming Rex got into Smash 6, he was based on his appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed. In that game, he has a completely unique moveset that simply uses the Pyra and Mythra blades. Basing his Smash appearance off of his Future Redeemed appearance would give fans who wanted him a fresh experience while people who are familiar with Pyra and Mythra get to keep their moveset.

    Rex in his Future Redeemed design would be very fun and unique. But I wouldn’t want him to outright replace Pyra & Mythra.

    It honestly feels like too many people are sleeping on or putting their heads in the sand for more Xenoblade content in a new game beyond just Noah or Mio.

    Instead of one long Adventure Mode, what if we had 3 separate shorter ones? One of them would be about the characters who are generally silent, the 2nd one would be about the characters who generally talk in non voiced text boxes and the 3rd one would be about the characters who are generally fully voiced. This way every character can communicate the way they usually do without the talkative characters and fully voiced characters overshadowing Mario and Link.

    If Smash 6 has to have cuts, they should still make sure every 1st party franchise still has at least one rep. It's understandable that some 3rd party companies won't always be able to be part of a Smash game for whatever reason, but 1st parties are free for Nintendo to use. There's no reason to entirely remove any 1st party franchise from the roster unless there's technical limitations like with the Ice Climbers in Smash 4.

    We shouldn't have every highly requested newcomer in Smash 6, because then Smash 7 and every other future Smash game wouldn't have any good selling point newcomers. So instead of putting Bomberman in Smash 6, what if we save him for Smash 7?

    i feel like it's a bit misguided to imply that there'll be absolutely no feasible picks for the smash series by like 2030 tbh

    that aside they should go for some weirder ones by this point. add ****in mm5 star man and the gun commander from shadow the hedgehog or something

    Heihachi will probably be in Smash 6 if Namco works on it. Their personal bias is what will get us both him and Kazuya. Plus he would be a very strong selling point.

    Byleth is one of those characters who didn't need to come with a stage, but he had to anyway because it was part of his deal in the Fighter's Pass. Whenever you play on the Gareg Mach Monastery stage, you can feel Sakurai struggling to think of unique gimmicks that would fit the stage and you can't blame him. Gareg Mach Monastery is as unique as it makes sense to be, which is to say not very much. Sakurai is capable of making very unique stages, but he only gives stages unique gimmicks that would fit the theme of the stage.

    Fe has numerous trap maps and areas with large battles. It would be easy to make a simple map at gronder field as a side scroller. Most of the issue was avoiding spoilers of part 2, which is likely why the monastery was chosen.

    Instead of Octoling being a separate character, there should just be 4 alts of Inkling and 4 alts of Octoling. They play exactly the same and are treated exactly the same in Splatoon anyway.

    But... they don't, and they aren't. You have to bear in mind that the genre of the Splatoon games means that yes, on a baseline level, the characters you play as will all have similar basic gameplay functions - but in essence, you can also argue that every Inkling plays differently, because people might use different weapon types that influence how their particular Inkling would function. (The same applies for Octolings.)

    They're also not really treated the same? A big part of the series' narrative is how the Octolings are still kind of getting out of their programming and trying to be more laid-back like the Inklings, so while the Inklings generally have a more urban and "cool" feel, the Octolings are sort of attempting to recreate that, but still have mannerisms and animations based on their more military origins (like how they tend to check over their weapons rather than just posing with them, for instance.)

    Idk, I know Smash doesn't really give every character their dues in terms of how they're represented with elements like personality, but I feel like the subtle differences between Inklings and Octolings is a fun thing to play around with in terms of both animation and moveset. (Especially given how those subtle differences are a big part of the series' identity.)

    What's the point of having Fairy Bottles in Echoes of Wisdom if red and blue potions come with bottles when you buy them? Why not just use those bottles to put fairies in after you drink all the potion like in Wind Waker?

    The fairies wouldn’t be comfortable being stored in regular bottles. There’s a reason why they hop into Fairy Bottles willingly, without Zelda even needing to take the bottles out of her pockets, and not into the regular free bottles.

    Maybe prioritizing old stages over new ones in Ultimate was a good idea. Back when Ultimate was being developed, there weren't a lot of new games that were worth making new stages out of anyway besides Odyssey, BOTW and Splatoon 1.

    Maybe Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will have a plot twist since we don't know who the villian is or why Hyrule is being swallowed by rifts.

    All people know so far (except those that have seen spoilers), when Ganon was defeated, his spear opened the rifts that appeared all over Hyrule and swallowed Link. Also, one of the Echoes of Wisdom trailers show Link being evil. I think that is where Zelda will get the sword.

    Fire Emblem may sell a lot of copies and it's plenty profitable, but the cultural zeitgeist for Fire Emblem would significantly improve if it only had 3 or 4 reps in Smash. Millions of people hate Fire Emblem all because it has too many reps in Smash.

    No, there isnt "millions" of people who obsess passionatelly enough with the idea of smash having a specific series character quota AND get mad enough at a series rep count to go as far as "hating" its original game without playing it. Roster obsessed fans VASTLY overestimate how much people even care about this type of thing, much less caring to the point of "hate". Even if you only count smash fans, the vast majority doesnt actually act petty mad at FE games
    Thats the effect of echochambers and bubbles where the opinions are always decide by like ~20 power users at best who post all day and still think their opinions mirror the outside world perfectly. Its never the case.

    I feel there are so many reps because Fire Emblem, unlike other franchises Nintendo owns, they don't have a central character. While Marth can be considered the mascot of FE, there are plenty of iconic characters that have potential to be just as deserving of entering Smash. This is the same with Pokemon, Pikachu is the mascot but so many others also deserve the rep spot as well.

    Off the Hook (Marina and the Pearl Drone) should be a duo character. You would control Marina while Pearl stays in her drone form and fights using her drone abilities. And most of Marina's attacks would involve her Splat Brella.

    Honestly, I'd totally be up for something like this; even if it ended up being Agent 8 with the Pearl Drone - if only because I think the weird archetype of "little thing that floats around/orbits a character and can attack somewhat independently of the main character you control" is massively underutilised, despite almost immediately thinking of two examples off the top of my head (2B and Strider)

    Specifically I've always liked the idea of being able to buffer inputs loosely akin to a simplified version of Ice Climber input buffering, if only because it'd be pretty neat to literally be able to "program" your little robot companion to attack in a certain way while you follow up; and it'd be fairly unique to a lot of puppet characters who tend to control their "puppets" in real time. idk could be neat

    When Octoling gets into Smash 6, her CG trailer should take place at Delfino Plaza where there's magenta ink everywhere and Mario has to use F.L.U.D.D. to clean it all up while Octoling hides in the ink and keeps shooting more for Mario to clean up.

    Well, Octolings are now just as important as Inklings, Splatoon is a very important Nintendo series, and the entire country of Japan (where Nintendo is located) is in love with Splatoon, so Octoling is absolutely getting in.

    If only 3 FE reps could return for Smash 6, I would pick Marth, Robin and Byleth. Marth because he's the face of the whole series, Robin because he represents tome users and the game that saved the series, and Byleth because he represents axe, lance and bow users and the most popular game in the series. Tomes, axes, lances and bows are all important weapons in Fire Emblem besides swords.
