I’ve seen a small amount of people state before that they think the video game industry will hit another crash like it did in 1983 if some major changes don’t happen.

I am inclined to disagree since the industry makes a lot of money, but what do you guys think about this?

If I have my information correct, some people take issue with the Mario Movie using…..mainstream music? Is that the term I’m looking for? Either way I’m referring to the use of songs like Thunderstruck.

My opinion on the matter is that I don’t mind it. The worst I can say about it is that it feels super weird that this makes a legitimate Mario vs Shrek debate a reality. Said debate being which movie between Mario and Shrek 2 had the better remix of “I need a hero”.

I just had to delete a spam email about a new electricity saving invention from Elon Musk.

There’s a joke about saving electricity by not using twitter in there somewhere, but I can’t figure out how to word it.

There’s this old trilogy of flash animated Nintendo parodies called Nin10Doh and in what I believe was the second one, they had the playable trainers from Gen 4 of Pokémon basically saying “We’ve caught Pokémon of every element, every human emotion, time and space, etc…..what’s left?”

And then it cuts to the devs of Gen 5 unable to come up with any new ideas in the boardroom and one of them even shouts the f word in frustration. A rather ironic skit to look back on since Gen 5 ended up having a lot of creative Pokémon.

As a big Zelda fan, I'm a little ashamed that it took me this long to realize that Ken's Nayru Jacket in Toy Story 3 is colored Green instead of Blue.

(Yes I know it's actually spelled Nehru in regards to the jacket but I needed the subtitles on Disney+ to figure that out.)

You know, Mario & Luigi Brothership is a pretty recent release, and that recent release is in a time where the successor to the Switch is approaching.

You think that means we might see some brothership characters and courses in the next Mario Kart?

So what is this BlueSky thing I’ve seen a couple people mention anyway?

The only BlueSky I’ve ever known about is the now defunct CGI Movie Studio.

You know it never really struck me before, but I’m starting to wonder if the reason Ultimate didn’t get a stage from Pokémon Sun and Moon is because they felt that it would just use the same concept so many of the Pokémon stages already use and they felt that would be too repetitive to prioritize including it in the timeframe they had.

It’s pretty commonly agreed upon that Ultra Sun and Moon happened a little too late to be in consideration for Ultimate which knocks the idea of Ultra Space out of the running. This means that the notable options for Base Sun and Moon were kind of limited to the Aether Paradise, the Altar of the Sunne, and…..I think that’s it.

Both of which really wouldn’t have anything special to them aside from either the Ultra Beasts or Solgaleo and Lunala appearing to cause some ruckus. Which is what I mean by repetitive since most of the Pokémon stages in Smash use that idea of signature Pokemon showing up to do stuff.

And the Altar of the Sunne has the additional annoyance of being called a different name, Altar of the Moone, in the Moon versions. Which makes trying to figure out what to call it in smash very annoying to figure out. I know from experience.

I remember seeing a few jokes around the time Mega Man 11 came out of Mega Man telling Beck from Mighty N0. 9 "Yeah......better give me back that torch."

Though if we're being honest here, when was the last time a Mega Man game was released? I know 11 isn't the most recent release, I'm pretty a couple collections got ported after 11 came out, but even so, I feel like it's been a good while.

The fact that this is 2 years old might mean a few Gex fans here have already seen it, but just in case there are some who haven't, here's a really cool fanmade Gex thing I just found on Youtube.

I think my favorite bad idea for a vs. debating matchup that I've ever thought of is Mario vs. E.T.

The inspiration? Back in the late 2000's it was quite common to find gamers pointing out how the E.T. game on the Atari 2600 was the primary cause of the video game crash of 1983 that would have killed the game industry if Super Mario Bros. hadn't released to such wide success and saved it.

That makes the idea of a fight between Mario and E.T. kind of funny to think about. Even if, as far as I recall, more details eventually surfaced that made the situation of the crash of 83 a little more complicated then that description from the late 2000's.

You know, now that there's a lot less controversy surrounding both Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi thanks to the TTYD Remake and the soon to release Brothership, a Mario & Luigi Paper Jam 2 might not be a bad idea.

We all know how the 4kids dub of Pokemon infamously referred to Rice Balls as being Donuts, but that isn't the only show 4kids pulled that stunt with.

In episode 17 of Yu-gi-oh GX, when watching the japanese version, a friend of the main characters makes Rice Balls as a thank you for a favor they're doing her, and there are 3 things that, unlike jelly, can actually be used as Rice Ball fillings. One kind is Plum, another is Smoked Tuna, and the last one is Salmon.

But in the dub version of this episode, they are instead called Stuffed Pastries with the 3 flavors being Strawberry, Chocolate, and Lemon Custard.

Huh. For some reason I thought Banjo-Tooie had been available via Switch Online all this time.

But apparently not.

Not all criticisms about games are good points.

I remember one time back when the Let’s Go games were the only Pokemon games either announced or released for the switch, I was talking with someone on discord and they were complaining about how Pokemon games never have more than one save file.

I pointed out in response how one of the cool things about main series Pokemon games being on switch was that they can all have multiple save files because different switch users have their own save files for games. So just make a new user on your switch and bam, new save file.

Their response was incredibly ridiculous. They basically said “That’s stupid. I shouldn’t have to make a new user.”

It was one of the most overly picky and illogical complaints I’ve ever heard someone make.

Remember my recent post where I mentioned that Greninja’s final smash could have been called Night Slash while still being the exact same move? Well technically that’s not the only option.

In the anime one of the signature moves of Ash’s Greninja was Cut. Which provides some form of argument that they could have named Greninja’s final smash Cut as well.

Yeah. The infamous HM move of Cut being the final smash on what was at least at one point (and might still be) the most popular Pokémon of them all. What a timeline that would be.

There are people out there who have a disdain for final smashes that are made up for Smash rather than being direct pulls from the source material.

But for whatever it's worth, a small number of those made-up final smashes pretty much become direct pulls from source material if you do nothing but change the name.

Once again it's not a large amount, only a grand total of 6, but it is something that could be done.

I think the most common complaint about Coins in Mario Kart 8 is how lame it feels to get them as an item during a race.

Personally I always had a bigger problem with how both Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 7 use coin collecting as the method for obtaining unlockables.

I've stated before on more than one occasion that I believe emulation is fine as long as the system you're emulating has been discontinued. And in that regard, sometimes emulation can offer some neat perks that make parts of certain games that are normally tedious a lot less of a hassle.

An example of which that I've actively been engaging in lately, is Pokemon Battle Revolution. Which as I'm sure many of you know is a bad game on an actual Wii because of the need for transferred Pokemon to be able to really do anything. But with a combination of Dolphin and a program called PKhex, you can fill the storage boxes with Pokemon that you can optimally customize for battle way faster.

Now Battle Revolution does have online multiplayer, and since this is Dolphin you should be able to set up connections for a few matches, so don't use Pokemon you get from PKhex in online play because using hacked Pokemon in that mode is severley frowned upon for a very good reason. But for the single player modes, go ham.

Youtube has been acting really weird with it's ads when I try to watch videos lately.

Usually what it does recently is when the video reaches a point where an ad would play, it will play like 1 second of the ad and then flicker a bit before trying to load another ad, then that 2nd ad will flicker after 1 second as well, and then it will give me that notice that ad blockers violate the Youtube terms of service. Which once again lasts for like 1 second, flickers a couple times, and then it will just start playing the video.

That last part especially is really weird because I don't have an ad blocker enabled for Youtube. It's not a huge deal all in all because I can still watch videos, but it is weird that it's doing this all of a sudden.

Is this happening to anyone else here?

I remember when a reviewer I used to watch a long time ago said that his favorite Metal Gear Solid game was the first one because it’s the only one where you actually needed to use stealth to beat the game, and the proceeded to criticize the other games for giving the player too many cheap “get out of stealth free cards” like one of the games providing too much ammo for the tranquilizer gun.

I don’t know if he still thinks this in the modern day, and if he does then more power to him, but it is a curious memory of mine to think about because I feel like that huge focus on stealth would lead to a sizable amount of people feeling like the original Metal Gear Solid has aged the worst out of all them (aside from the games people considered bad upon release).

After all, stealth sections in games are usually viewed with disdain are they not?

Hey, did you guys see the new playable character in the Patrick Star game?

A short few days after the trailer first came out that revealed both Inkling for Smash Ultimate and the game of Smash Ultimate itself, I participated in a discussion video talking about the impact that games like Breath of the Wild, Pokémon Sun & Moon, and upcoming games that hadn’t released yet would have on Smash Ultimate.

BotW was the focus of the first half of the entire video and one of the things I said during that topic was that I thought it seemed like it was the prime time to give Ganondorf a new moveset. The main reason I said that was because I was pretty locked into the mindset that Link would have some significant changes because he had his BotW look now. A perspective that was shared with the other people in that video.

Which was the first time of what is now a grand total of three times where I thought it could be the prime time for a Ganondorf moveset change. The second time was more of a thought that it could HAVE been that since all the Zelda characters in Ultimate had depictions from different games, but I didn’t start thinking that until sometime after that fact was revealed soooooo……yeah.

And unsurprisingly, the third time I thought this was seeing all the new stuff from Ganondorf’s depiction in Tears of the Kingdom. And to be fair, that example has not been shot down yet.

But either way, I think the fact that this moment of feeling like it’s the prime time for a new Ganondorf moveset has happened on at least 3 different occasions would either cause people to feel like they’d be even more annoyed if it yet again does not happen in the next Smash Game, or they’d take it as a sign to not expect a moveset change to be an “impossible that it’s not going to happen” type of guarantee just because it feels like the prime time for it.

I personally lean more towards the latter.

Back when Screwattack first merged with Rooster Teeth, and by proxy Death Battle became a Rooster Teeth show, I was part of a volunteer research team for Death Battle.

Because of that, Rooster Teeth gave me a free first membership for their site. I think it was the summer of 2016 when this happened, and they made it so that this free first membership would not expire until January of 2025.

Yeah, that was pretty generous. But the fact that Rooster Teeth has been shut down and January of 2025 still hasn’t arrived yet? That just feels weird to think about.

Super Mario Party Jamboree has received a number of update videos and such sharing more about the game since its initial reveal, but I gotta be honest, I haven’t really been keeping up with them. Been a little too focused on other things.

So I’m going to ask this here. Has it been confirmed whether or not the Pro Controller is compatible with the game or if its Joy-cons only? Or do we still not know yet either way?

I remember seeing someone say a few years back that the only reason YouTube is still alive is because there’s no alternative.

Which is a statement that makes sense to claim given the abundance of problems with the site, but I do find myself wondering how much truth would actually apply to this claim.

Mostly because I vaguely recall Twitch trying some kind of push to become an alternative, yet YouTube is still around. Though I think my memory is betraying me on a couple key aspects there.

Hot take:

Hiding dislikes from the public was one of the best decisions YouTube has made in recent memory.

Video Makers who feel like dislikes are a helpful form of feedback to help them improve can still see the dislikes their videos get, so hiding dislikes from the public relieves people from feeling the annoyance of seeing dislike bars that are a result of trolls being pests and haters acting like raging idiots.

While I never saw that get as bad on YouTube as I have on Reddit (another site that should get rid of its downvote feature) I did see enough of it before YouTube started hiding dislikes from the public to where I’m glad that YouTube made that decision.

I've been getting pretty into the idea of Diantha and Cynthia facing each other in a Pokemon Battle (more so in the realm of an anime setting rather than a game one) but I think it's not at all a stretch to say that more people would expect Cynthia to be the winner.

Not just because Cynthia is widely considered the strongest Champion in the series while Diantha is considered the weakest (prior to Geeta's introduction anyway) but with both the anime and the games in mind, all of Diantha's Pokemon take super effective damage from at least SIX of the Pokemon available in Cynthia's line-up. Including Gardevoir depending on moveset choices.

For this reason, I've been trying to think of some other Pokemon Diantha could have, but the only Pokemon I've found so far that I think could be fitting for Diantha is Pyroar. And maybe Honchkrow too. But both of them still suffer from the problem of being weak to a lot of Cynthia's roster.

Melee and Brawl both had rewards where in order to unlock them, you had to leave the game running for so long that you pretty much had to just have CPU’s play hour long matches over and over again while you went to do something else.

Melee’s reward for this was the playable character of Mewtwo, Brawl’s was the music track of the Bob-omb Battlefield theme.

Which one do you think was the better reward?

I mentioned once how I thought the theme songs of the Pokemon X and Y anime were not as good as those of the previous generations. And I still stand by that for the later 2 of the 3, but I didn't give the 1st one enough credit. It is all and all a good song, it's a remix of the original opening so how could it not be, but part of me does feel like it would have been nice to have something new instead.

Either way, still not a big fan of the later two. Which is why I decided to give the openings for the japanese version a listen and wow, what a colossal improvement.

One of the weirdest criticisms of a game company for me to look back on is this one time I saw someone say that an example of how cheap Sega is, is that they’re the only company to still use black and white game manuals.

This is a statement I saw back in 2007 and at the time, I did see with my own eyes that it was in fact true. So I understand what point this person was trying to make, but using that of all things as an example of proof that Sega was cheap at the time? I don’t know, something about that just feels weird.

Especially in the modern day where game manuals are ancient relics.
