Even as someone who loves platformers, agrees that Ultimate's DLC had a crippling visual variety problem, and really doesn't like defending post-Melee Smash, the argument that "platforming characters are more distinguishable than JRPG characters" is bizarre to me. There are just as many tropes in platforming character designs for reductive comparisons as there are in JRPG heroes - big conjoined eyes, use of mammals as opposed to reptiles/fish/birds/e.t.c., bipedal bodies, exaggeratedly large hands and feet, either orange or black fur, incomplete clothing, flat beige/white muzzles, so on
The Internet Historian always gave me a weird vibe - a lot of the videos he did were genuinely fascinating, I really loved the Harry Potter spoilers video especially, but at the same time he felt a bit... centrist if that makes sense? A lot of his videos tackled really horrible stuff with an obvious Saturday-Morning-tier two-dimensional good guy and bad guy but didn't bother to actually condemn anything beyond a vague disclaimer. It's the same way I feel about a lot of Chris Chan "documentaries", where she is obviously a victim to such a degree that none of her actual wrongdoings or crimes can negate that, but the conclusion is always some variation of "karma" or "bittersweet".

I do wonder if there's any unique gameplay ideas that could only be done in a platform fighter without any free-for-all or team battle compatibility whatsoever - I could imagine something where both players get to choose a stage at the start of the match, and every time someone takes a stock they're rewarded by the stage transforming into their choice.
I was thinking about how Fortnite handles R-rated properties with the recent Peter Griffin announcement, and honestly I actually think "this is a kids' game" is a good argument FOR the likes of Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat, Doom, or Call of Duty in Smash. They should still absolutely no-compromises no-loopholes be in a censored format, don't get me wrong, but when you're a kid, those 4 franchises are these alluring, mysterious things you crave just the slightest glimpse at - as a kid I was staunchly in the anti-graphic violence pro-platformer Nintendotuber sheep camp, and even I was a bit curious what the GTA fuss was - so having a family-friendly rendition in Smash would be a nice way to statisfy that hunger for the forbidden fruit without either compromising the actual source material or exposing kids to dead hookers, brains being sliced in half, and Ollie North cameos.

I tried to make a post on the "Smash but everyone is a stance fighter" thread and gave up... I think I really want a Kumatora/Violet stance fighter now though.
I keep getting recommended these "I have two sides" videos where it plays a Battle for Dream Island clip and then cuts to a Lankybox Grimace Shake Skibidi Toilet cartoon by the same animator or voice actor, and generally the Lankybox clips are way less obnoxious.

I find it weird how Mario fans assign being in a platformer as "establishing a character as canon/major" - like, Mario Kart sells better than the platformers generally, more people know who Waluigi is than Nabbit.

2D Mario platformers ranked. I'd do an image, but all the tiermakers I could find were either incomplete or took a year to load. Any game that's absent I most likely just haven't played.

I think the dumbest assumption I ever made about a crossover character before becoming familiar with them was thinking that King Dedede was a Vault Boy or Professor Genki-style cartoon mascot for a more gritty, violent series.
While I dislike the notion that "all 3D platformers should be collectathons", I do actually think a new Bubsy game would be well-suited for the subgenre. Both because Bubsy's gliding fits exploration to a T, and also because Bubsy is supposed to be a cartoon character with a lot of personality, and a 2D platformer or Crash/Mario 3D Land/2010s Sonic-style platformer would make it hard to fit in side characters for him to talk to outside of villains.
"Smash fans think Pac-Man is unpopular and unimportant" sounds like one of my comedic exaggerations after an incident involving a Wagon from the Oregon Trail submission for Infinite, but that actually happened when he got in. I was there. People were genuinely saying "Really? Pac-Man and not Klonoa??? When's the last time someone thought about Pac-Man?"
At least "Really? Sephiroth and not Geno???" has the just-barely-valid defense of the Nintendo bubble, Klonoa's games were mostly PlayStation exclusives, I have no clue how a Nintendo fan would have enough external knowledge to know who Klonoa is but not enough external knowledge to know the impact Pac-Man had.

The Chum Bucket stage in NASB 2 feels like something that fundamentally should not work yet it's actually really fun, while the Thornberrys Savannah stage feels like it should be the best stage in the game but is an absolute slog. (still an improvement over Wild Waterfall though)

I really hate to dig up the embarrassing old "Mario Mandate" conspiracies, but has anyone checked to see if those "character supervisor" credits are still in Wonder and the RPG remake?
Designing For can be really insightful at times, but I feel like he often suffers from 1. not making it clear what is canon and what is headcanon, and 2. trying to talk about actual mechanical game design, which he doesn't seem to have too good a grasp on compared to character and world design (I'm sorry, but no, no amount of "The joke is that Cortex is pathetic" will make Crash 2's final boss good game design) -
