I find it funny how the NASB community has a warped view of which Nickelodeon characters are the most iconic, just like Smash has for general gaming properties.

Like, don't get me wrong, Powdered Toast Man and Oblina are surprising picks, but not at all deep cuts. Your average Joe Schmoe on the street is more likely to know PTM than Danny Phantom, 6-episode filmography be damned. El Tigre is probably the most obscure character in either roster but everyone acts like he was as obvious as SpongeBob.

Someone going on a thread called "Unpopular Opinons" then calling someone a contrarian as an insult is very funny.

It's weird that Morshu isn't taken seriously in Smash discussion, specifically on the "Nintendo All-Stars" side. The CD-i games (and the weird 90s outsourced/multimedia stuff in general) are about as big - if not bigger - a part of not just Nintendo's history, but also their fandom, as Nintendo's work with Rare and Square. Fleeting, but left a major impact, expressed by fans through fan content. I totally get not liking the idea on its individual merits (limited moveset potential without creative liberties, not liking the character design, general COGH vs. NAS divide, overlap with characters like Anna), but brushing him aside as "just a meme" is equally as dumb as it is for Waluigi.

I guess it's more a symptom of Smash fandom's wider issue of anti-bad-game bias than anything Morshu-specific, but still.

I'm making a dumb project where I rename all of the Gen 1 Pokemon (and possibly more) - somehow the first word I reused for a pun twice outside of evolution lines was - of all things - "molar." ("Moular" for Ratticate and "Monar" for Golbat)

It's funny how having a giant filesize was considered a selling point for games in the 16-bit era, but is now considered a blight and sometimes even a dealbreaker.

Finding out that Robert Rodriguez directed Alita: Battle Angel is the least surprising surprise I've had in my life. I don't think anyone else in Hollywood would've earnestly considered making a live action manga adaptation with CGI anime eyes.

Pibby, if it did become real, would've been a production nightmare - IIRC the OK KO guys had to go to every individual cartoon creator for approval for their crossover, and most of those characters were just statues. Like, imagine the process of:

1. Find a willing consultant who worked on a series
2. Find as many model sheets, background graphics, and reference materials as possible
3. Research the show's history to make sure there's no associated real-world tragedies or character inspirations you could step on the toes of as a horror show
4. Learn the individual animation styles and their quirks
5. Watch as much of the show as you can to sort out the character personalities
6. Apply those character personalities to a situation and tone they were not created to exist in
7. Figure out a way to market this episode without drawing the attention of their original target demographic
8. Do this EVERY WEEK.

And that's just for the recent-memory Cartoon Network/Adult Swum stuff. It gets even more complicated once you dip into stuff like Scooby, Tom & Jerry, and Flintstones that likely have strict brand guidelines and very few living original staff members, and then you take into account that some shows have higher budgets than others, (It's gonna be harder to replicate the animation and sound quality of Spielberg-funded Animaniacs than something like Billy & Mandy) that some creators may get cold feet at the last second, requiring a potentially crucial episode to be scrapped, making sure action characters' powers are consistent and not down/overplayed, and - probably the biggest issue and honestly the thing I think probably got Pibby off the menu - potentially pissing off OG fans who wanted a proper revival. Velma pissed OG fans off, PPG pissed OG fans off, Ben 10 pissed OG fans off, Thundercats Roar pissed OG fans off, even well-recieved reboots like Animaniacs and Jellystone pissed OG fans off, and none of those turned the beloved characters into suffering zombies begging to be mercy-killed. Imagine if the outcome after all the fan campaigning for Galactic Kids Next Door was a Pibby crossover.

I think I watched too many angry reviewers as a kid because whenever I think of the abstract concept of "fog", even in the sense of a simile like "foggy memory", I immediately think of South Park for PS1.

Hot take: Regardless of if discourse toxicity has increased or decreased or if it will have a positive effect on Smash itself in practice, I actually think COGH has been a positive on the actual characters being discussed in Smash speculation, Smash wishlists are way more diverse now than they were in the 3DS/Wii U days.

I think that people younger than me (since I'm basically at the bare minimum age to have experienced and remembered its mainstream popularity) might think the Y2K aesthetic was just a niche thing that only existed on failed Apple products and Japan-exclusive Dreamcast games, but no - it was everywhere: supermarkets, insurance, movie review shows, educational websites, local ma & pa shops, government-funded TV channels, everyone was rocking the futuristic look in some form regardless of target demographic or futuristic-ness - it's incredible and unfortunate how it just all kinda disappeared.

I'm not ragging on the aesthetic guys for hyper-fixating on bubblegum pop music videos instead of laundry powder commercials mind you, I moreso just find it amusing how someone without proper context could mistake it for being much smaller than it was.

Some of the crap Reggie's "epic wholesome reputation" has managed to outlive is insane to me. I guess I can understand Reggie's apathetic comments on unions being seen as "good enough" and the death threats being interpreted as "lighthearted banter" (even though neither are true), but the play-to-earn NFT stuff?? That's probably the least damning post-retirement Reggie cringe moment, but it certainly has the least plausible deniability as well.

I find it funny how cartoon characters can completely dominate the mindshare of an entire animal species. Pika(chu) and Wolverine are the funniest examples IMO, because the prior probably wasn't intentional and the latter isn't even a wolverine.
