  • I do wonder what the reception to SMSB would be if it were a real game.

    • I have no clue if people would like the reskinned stages and especially fighters - I guess it'd depend on whether you're talking to the "character" crowd or the "function" crowd.
    • I can't really imagine the open acknowledgement of Hotel Mario; the Super Show; the DKC cartoon; and such being recieved negatively. In fact, I can see it being this game's "Sans" moment if anything.
    • Character trailers not being used would probably be disliked but understood, given that it's just one world this is based in.
    • The guest fighters, when we get to them, could very well become the most divisive thing in Smash since wavedashing. There is a strong posibility we could get Shrek; Ronald McDonald; SpongeBob; or Gru (or even all 4) in the DLC but only one chance for Link or Kirby, and I can see why that'd upset people - but I can also get why people would love that
    • Sonic being a stage cameo will not go down well. At all.
    • Mii Heads are gonna be perfect meme fuel.
    • Timber will absolutely spawn conspiracy theories about Banjo and Conker being in (They won't, at least not in base game in the case of Banjo. Conker's a no-hoper though.)
    • Unless we get Pauline in the Ally Contact list later, King Boo will probably be the Waluigi/Isaac-tier disconfirm
    • A lot of people are gonna stick to Ultimate, but it'll probably be the reverse case from Melee & Brawl with casual fans sticking to the earlier game while Nintendo devotees and competitive players try the new one (assuming the gameplay tweaks I have in mind are achieved)

As much as I wanna get wild with the game guest job, I feel like Sonic's probably our best bet reception-wise given the cameos. Then again, I might just submit White Mage or Rhythm Girl for the heck of it (assuming my guesses are correct and the game guest job will have the rule of "must have crossed over with Mario in some official capacity in a game")

Nope, the game guest job is the pre-order bonus like Plant, so the last fighter job of base game - it will be open to almost any 1st party veteran who doesn't have an equivalent clone. (as well as Sonic and Banjo due to the prior's cameos and the latter's connections to Mario)

Aw man. White Mage was actually my most wanted game-originating DLC fighter. Oh well, that's the way the thread goes.
i just realised that 2019 pumbaa being in the chip n dale toontown means disney are confirming that the lion king remake is an animated movie
We are voting on new fighters; new stages; and existing content to be shown off at E3 + figuring All-Star and Event mode, and submitting Daisy's animations!
If JK Rowling wasn't British, the Harry Potter cast would be called

I'm kinda surprised that, now it's out in the US, people are calling the Bad Guys predictable - like, yeah, Professor Marmalade being evil was obvious from the trailers (so obvious I thought it was a red herring, heh), as was The Crimson Paw's appearance as soon as they mentioned her name, but other twists caught me completely off guard - like Marmalade intentionally setting up Wolf's redemption as a cover-up, Snake being a double agent, and Diane being the Crimson Paw
Reminder that we are submitting variant clone fighters and stages based on official Smash stages + voting on the contents of our E3 demo!
If Smash was to introduce seperate strong and light buttons, I feel charging like Smash attacks should be a variable thing per strong move like how rapid and triple jabs are. So, for example, Mario's strong forward air would be chargable but not his down ground strong.

Mother 3 is the only example I can think of where a game turning the edge to 11 between instalments worked - and that's only really because, for the most part, it was fully sincere about its dark themes and the impact they have on the characters in the universe, not just trying to be cool or shock people. Having a rotating cast and only really being connected by the prior games' villains also helps, I don't think I'd take a story as dark as Mother 3's seriously with Ness or Ninten and their respective friends.
Crash in Smash is weird to me because he is a character I would be excited for, but at the same time I don't think I'd trust modern-day Sakurai to make a good moveset for him - moreso than any of the other characters I'd want except maybe Jill - and I honestly only really want him for that slight barely 0.1% chance he opens the doors to Dingodile or Ripper Roo later.

You have no clue how long I've been waiting for this CEO to openly say some truly capitalist BS so the cult can end and the Wonderful-World-of-Disney-in-Colour illusion about 2000s/2010s Nintendo can be shattered once and for all. This will probably be the only time I'm ever happy someone wants to make NFTs.

To be fair, Reggie never mentioned NFTs in the Bored Ape sense in the article you're talking about; Just stuff like selling Animal Crossing islands. Don't get me wrong, that's still pretty dumb (especially since the whole point of video games is... well, actually playing them), but it's not like he's promoting selling PNGs.

But still... Dang. My entire vision of Nintendo as a whole has been shattered already over these past few weeks, but I didn't imagine I'd lose some respect for Reggie as a person. I get that Nintendo loyalists should really understand the company's downfalls and not blindly ignore/defend them, but I don't think it's something worth celebrating, either.

How can anyone seriously say anything positive about the phrase"Play to own" or "Play to earn" without feeling like a ghoul
I was thinking of doing a "grassy fields" Smash stage sweep, replacing most of the grassy fields stages (sans certain super iconic ones like Green Hill or Duck Hunt) with other stages that would function the same

Spiral Mountain - remains the same, but when the Gruntilda bust is in view it starts to storm and rain
Mushroom Kingdom 2 - remains the same, but uses NES graphics (not a change to make it less grassy-plains-ish, moreso just something that should’ve been done in the first place)
Figure-8 Circuit - rethemed to Mario Kart Stadium
    Mario Circuit - remains intact
Rainbow Cruise - no visible land below
3D Land - Beginning takes place in a snow level, everything after the note block is the same
Golden Plains - Completely changed to Wario’s Castle.
Paper Mario - The first portion is Toad Town, with a windmill placed there.
Mushroom Kingdom U - rethemed to Painted Pipeworks. The first part is the only part completely rethemed, the rest are just given a painted appearance
    Mario Galaxy - remains intact
Super Mario Maker - all Mario Maker world types are included, and they alternate with the game
Yoshi’s Island Melee - has a forest background, foreground is intact
Yoshi’s Story - Rethemed to Cloud Cruising
Yoshi’s Island Brawl - left intact
Spirit Train - takes place in the Ocean Realm
    Dream Land - remains intact
Green Greens - rethemed to Lakitu’s Stage from Tetris Attack
Dream Land GB - Green Greens remains intact, but it shows for a few less seconds because of the addition of the title screen at the start
    Distant Planet - remains intact
Garden of Hope - has a day/night cycle
    Gaur Plain - always night
    Duck Hunt - remains intact
Green Hill Zone - remains intact
Windy Hill Zone - rethemed to Star Light Zone. The Windmill is removed but its platforms and their pattern stays
I don't think the Ruined Dragon is as out of place in the Mario universe as people say it is - it kinda reminds me of stuff like the Greedy in the Raggedy Ann movie; the Spirit Book in the Care Bears movie; or the Smooze in the My Little Pony 80s movie, a villain who's appearance and threat level is a little out of place in the overall cutesy world, but that adds to them as villain because of their out-of-place nature, and they add to the overall world by showing the darker magic you'd expect in any other fantasy universe.

However, I do think it should've been later into the game. Maybe as a post-game boss in Darker Side, or the second-to-last boss before Bowser.
Just a reminder to submit 2010s ally contacts, new stage cameos, stage music and/or Yoshi stage names + vote on how enemies from Adventure Mode will appear outside of it if you haven't already!
Also, tomorrow will have an E3-related job so stay tuned for that!
Just to remind y'all: We are submitting stage cameos/easter eggs, ally contacts (Assist Trophies) from the 2010s, new names for the Yoshi's Island stages, and music for the Mario is Missing and Mario & Yoshi stages!

So, do they have the rights to use cropped Google Images of Jimmy Neutron; Rocky the Flying Squirrel; and the Smurfs in the Chip N' Dale movie? If so, why did they put a parody of Gumby as the cop instead of just Gumby? Especially considering that last I checked, Rocky & Bullwinke and Gumby are both owned by Dreamworks.

Also a Lion King 2019 character has no right to tell people they have dead mocap eyes
Continuing from my last post about the PTE XL roster, my rerun era/pre-Cartoon Cartoons pick would be Daffy Duck - having him over Bugs makes him a pretty surprising, funny pick (even if not to the extent that an educational mascot is); and he would make perfect sense for Captain Planet's deus-ex-machina appearance in story mode because, after all, what would be more of a Daffy Duck move than having the power to beat the final boss and easily end the story early, but only showing up at the last second so you can hog all the credit?
I don't think there's any roster I've ever had more mixed feelings on than the PTE XL roster

    • There are some REALLY cool picks here - Toilenator; Scotsman; Monkey; and Hoss Delgado are incredible choices I don't think many would go for.
    • As somewhat of a cartoon boomer I don't really mind the lack of Adventure Time/Gumball/Regular Show but it does come off as really weird when the (at the time) new Ben 10 is also there.
    • A lot of main characters kinda feel like they're there just because "main character" - Mac & Bloo are the worst offenders here, but Billy & Mandy and Flapjack also both feel like they could be done without
    • Having only one KND member is strange, but I think going for the villains instead was a good call
    • In general, I like how many villains are playable here
    • Having multiple duo characters but making the PPGs seperate is a really weird choice, especially when their show has one of the best comedy rogues galleries in cartoon history and their size + flight makes them perfect trio fighter material.
    • No second Chowder or Fosters rep is really weird - Johnny Bravo at least doesn't have a big cast to work with and wasn't playable in the 3DS version, but Chowder is the first world in story mode and Fosters is built entirely around the concept of a creative ensomble cast
    • Captain Planet is a super fun pick but feels like a bit of a slap in the face when he's the only non-CN WB rep and not Scooby Doo; Fred Flintstone; Bugs Bunny; Tom & Jerry; or something like that.
    • The lack of Courage and Eds is really glaring, Cow & Chicken also feel like a weird absence but to a lesser extent.
There's a (by accident) seasonally fitting stage easter egg/cameo job + a job about modes or items that can use enemies + Peach's animations! We're also voting on Yoshi's stages, the next dojo reveals and a Klump moveset
I feel a Duck Hunt reboot, if it were to exist, should play into the "dark with a cute exterior" trope Nintendo is known for, but instead of the apocalyptic and supernatural themes Nintendo usually goes for, it'd be crime and gangs that get the emphasis. Not only do almost all the zapper games have some kind of organised crime theme, but a quadrupedal dog only really works as a shooter protagonist if it has something to do with loyalty, something you see referenced a lot in detective and crime stories. (like protecting/avenging their incapacitated/murdered owner from a gang for example)

No 4th wall shenanigans like in Smash either, the shooting would probably be handled by the duck as to give the existing brand name a meaning when it's cowboys and mafia bosses being shot (and getting covered in soot, not dying) instead of waterfowl
