The old Mario cartoons (sans Super Show) are really weird because they have the aesthetic and line delivery of a comedy show, but there are barely any jokes and the plot structure is more akin to something like He-Man or Thundercats - a short adventure with chase/battle scenes and magic powers ending with a valuable (if poorly delivered) moral. Either that or the jokes in the show are just so blatant and pre-meta that they fly over my post-modernity-and-subtlety-adjusted zoomer head.

I feel that if there was a Minecraft movie, it should, regardless of it it'd be primarily action or comedy, be near-if-not-silent like the Shaun the Sheep movies were. I'd also prefer the characters to be stiff like the Lego Movie, but that might hard to handle in conjunction with character silence.

If there had been one more submission I would've composited the Toad submissions in the current SMSB job with the stages being voted on seperately depending on which wins, but with just 6 subs I don't think the Toads have the potential to cannibalise each other + it allows for better 3 score voting.

Honestly the only character I'd want who I'm more than 50% confident would be done justice by modern Smash is Who Are You Running From, just because he'd inherently require creativity on virue of being a single image and not having any canon powers/gimmicks to effortlessly slap on.

The only series I think is 100% misrepresented in Smash on almost all cylinders is ROB. His moveset is fine and I don't mind the lack of a Gyromite stage too much, but Subspace was an insult to the established Gyromite/Stack-Up lore and characters, made worse by ROB's role being the part of Subspace most frequently acknowledged and reinforced for that character's representation in later Smash games.

There are only three things I miss going from Smash to NASB: Smash's huge stage selection, stage morph, and squad strike. Everything else I either see as fluff (WoL, near-triple-digits roster, Final Smashes) or weren't really handled well enough in Smash to say I "miss" them so to speak (voice acting, active online)

On paper, I like alternate costumes that are just small changes like Cloud's armband in Smash or Korra's season 2 outfit in Nick, but when there's a strictly set number of alt costumes for every character (Ultimate's 8 or - worse - NASB's 2) it's quite infuriating.

It might just be because I threw a barely disguised fit about us just disconfirming Rambi, but I haven't seen as many major disconfirms in the current Mario Smash Ally Contact job as usual - probably the biggest potential disconfirm on the table is either Boom Boom or Tatanga (maybe Lego Mario but TBH since Lego Mario is kind of an auto-disconfirm for real Smash it's hard to calculate how much demand there is for him in this context without submitting him for a fighter job), neither of which are exactly as discussed in the context of Smash as Stanley, Poochy, or Vivian.

I think people, in discussion of British/European games, do tend to overlook Donkey Kong Country. That feels, to me at least, like the game my country should be proud of and an icon of our gaming achivements, but when I talk to British people IRL who grew up on DKC or are into gaming but not fully into Nintendo they're often surprised to find out DKC was a British creation. DKC has basically all the good of Amiga europlatformers (atmospheric music, surreal but beautiful atmosphere, every action having an "oomph"), without the janky cameras and BS hit detection.

The lead technical character artist for Luigi's Mansion 3 also working on Hotel Mario as art director is a funny fact, sure, but it also kinda makes sense comparing the two games. Luigi's Mansion 3 is one of the most expressive games in Nintendo history, the closest Nintendo has got to an "interactive cartoon" IMO, and for as off-model and uncanny as the CD-i Nintendo games' cutscenes were, you can't say they didn't have expressive animation.

Eek! was already themed around a cute, optimistic cartoon character contrasted by a cynical, violent world
Eek! was already filled with meta-jokes and pop culture parodies, and comes from the era of Animaniacs and Bonkers with the cartoons-as-actors trope.
Eek! has actually been forgotten and fell out of public conciousness, and depicting him as washed up and behind the times would just be stating facts, not an insult to devoted fans.
