Saturday, August 20 marks the start of an incredible 2-day event for Japan’s Super Smash Bros. Wii U scene. Umebura: The Second Anniversary Tournament (Umebura S.A.T.) is celebrating the legacy of the premier Kanto tournament series. As usual, it will be held at the Ota City Industrial Plaza in Pio, Tokyo and streamed by SHI Gaming. However, this entry has proven to be the most stacked one to date. The Melee Games Season 6 Announcement

The Melee Games, the collegiate league dedicated to the players of Super Smash Bros. Melee, and ran by Matthew Zaborowski and Jesse Hurtz, is back for Season 6. The brand new season starts registration on August 15th.

The new plans for this season are:

  • The Format is changing from a rolling event schedule to a scheduled qualifier system
  • Instead of cramming the season into a 3-5 month period, they’ll be running The Melee Games from September 2016 to April/May 2016
  • Alumni are no longer allowed to participate in TMG
  • Matches are now limited to 45 vs 5
  • Schools do not need to submit a lineup prior to an event, rather they will double-blind their lineup in person prior to every match at a qualifier
  • Registration will not close until before the final qualifier in each region
  • Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Quebec (CA), Alabama, and Oklahoma are now integrated into TMG
  • Entry free is now $100...

If you were a Metroid fan watching the E3 Invitational in the July of 2014, these words from Smash director Masahiro Sakurai were a godsend. For the past 3 iterations of the series, Samus had been at best, a mid-tier character. Her fans had it rough.

Finally though, Samus was getting some love; or so it seemed. In a deja vu situation, she was again what she once was: mediocre.

Super Smash Con 2016: Smash Wii U Top 8 Results

Top 8 for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at Super Smash Con has concluded. Once again, this event proved to be one of the highlights of Summer Smash. Over 1,250 entrants competed in the Wii U tournament, netting it the finale slot on Sunday’s VGBootCamp stream. Of those, only eight players remained. Read on to learn who won!
