  • Do you think Nintendo would benefit by putting most of their games on Steam (alongside their own consoles) starting in the Wii U era?
What if Fire Emblem Engage was a fighting game?
This is a 2.5D fighting game where players fight with a first-to-three round-based system.

What makes this one stand out is the following:
    • Emblems, rings which summon phantoms of past Fire Emblem characters
      • There is a 5-bar meter at the bottom of the screen with which the player can use Combat Arts
      • Personal Arts, which are specific to each character, ranging between Lv. 1 (1 bar), Lv. 2 (2 bars) and Lv. 3 (3 bars)
      • Emblem Arts are a single action (either attack or parry) that require only 1 bar
      • Each playable character can expend 5 bars to Engage with their chosen Emblem once per match, which works similar to X-Factor from Marvel vs. Capcom 3
      • While in Engage Mode, the player can use the rest of their meter to perform Engage Arts, which they can only do while Engaged with an Emblem
    • Adjutants, which work similar to Assists from the Marvel vs. Capcom series
      • Each player sets 2 Adjutants and an Emblem before the match begins
      • Adjutants work like a mix between Special Partners from Clash of Super Heroes (non-playable characters who assist with their own attacks) and Assists from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3 (you can set two Assist characters and choose which attack they use out of three choices)
      • You can only call an Adjutant once per match and you cannot call them while Engaged with an Emblem

My 53-fighter reboot roster using the template provided here:
Something I'd like to point out is that certain slots have transforming characters.
    • Samus / Zero Suit Samus share one slot
    • Charizard, Squirtle and Ivysaur share one slot via the Pokémon Trainer
    • Pyra and Mythra share one slot
    • Noah and Mio share one slot
    • All three Mii Fighter classes (Brawler, Swordfighter and Gunner) share one slot via the Mii button
Which bumps the base roster to even 60 fighters in total.
In your opinion, how could the Wii U have been successful? Obviously 3rd party support is a factor but what else?
Are there any fight sticks out there with the numbers visible, surrounding the joystick itself? Cause if I had something like that, I'd probably be more likely to get into traditional 2D fighting games.

    KneeOfJustice99
I may sound silly suggesting this, and I assure you I'm not trying to be facetious by doing so, but - could you not just use stickers numbered from one to nine and then physically put them onto basically any fightstick? It seems like it'd be a lot less hassle, and probably a lot cheaper too

If I had the money to afford commissions and a fight stick, I'd probably commission artwork of what I'm suggesting so I don't wave to worry about individual numbers trying to stay on.
I made a new thread. Feel free to share your grievances.

Okay, so...if you guys got to choose seven unique characters and seven Echo Fighters for Melee, who would you guys pick? For me:
    Peach
    Bowser
    Ice Climbers
    Sheik
    Zelda
    Marth
    Mewtwo
Ayumi Tachibana (Peach / Zelda Echo)
    Pichu
    (Pikachu Echo)
    Falco
    (Fox Echo)
    Young Link
    (Link Echo)
    Mach Rider
    (Captain Falcon Echo)
    Celica (Marth Echo)
    Bubbles (Kirby Echo)
    KneeOfJustice99
    KneeOfJustice99
Hm. This pretty much changes with the winds for me, but I'd probably go with...

    Peach
    Bowser
    Zelda
    King Dedede
    Mewtwo
    Marth
    Mr. Game & Watch
    Dr. Mario
    (Mario clone)
    Young Link
    (Link clone)
    Gooey
    (Kirby clone)
    Falco
    (Fox clone)
    Pichu
    (Pikachu clone)
    Ryota Hayami
    (Captain Falcon clone)
    Celica
    (Marth clone)

My thought process basically boils down to:
    • Both Peach and Bowser are obvious candidates from the Super Mario series
    • Zelda makes a lot of sense, but we could get away with cutting Sheik
    • King Dedede works to bolster Kirby a little!
    • Mewtwo is an obvious Pokemon newcomer for the era too
    • Marth is another decently obvious pick at this point
    • Mr. Game & Watch is basically the de-facto "retro rep"
    • Dr. Mario is slightly deviated further to take more inspiration from his actual games
    • Young Link is predominantly inspired by Majora's Mask instead of Ocarina of Time
    • Gooey is just honestly kinda fun, doesn't have Inhale but does have licks and stuff
    • Falco is just obvious ngl, as is Pichu to be fair
    • Ryota is a rep for a more modern series (Wave Race) who could still feel pretty unique
    • Celica is a somewhat inspired Marth clone who might have a magic attack or two from Zelda's kit
    Pupp135
    Pupp135
I elaborate on some of my choices here, but here‘s the roster below.
    Unique: :bowsermelee::peachmelee:(:zeldamelee::sheikmelee:):icsmelee::marthmelee::mewtwomelee:
Clones (parent fighters match with canon ones): :drmario::pichumelee::falcomelee::younglinkmelee::ganondorfmelee::roymelee::ultdaisy:

Alternatively, if Melee got another year to cook, here's the roster I'd choose (Italics bold denotes unlockable characters):
    Mario
    Luigi
    Peach
    Bowser
    Yoshi
    Wario¹
    Donkey Kong
    Diddy Kong
    Link
    Zelda / Sheik
    Ganondorf²
    Samus
    Kirby
    Fox
    Falco
    Pikachu
    Jigglypuff
    Mewtwo
    Scizor
    Ness
    Captain Falcon
    Ice Climbers
    Ayumi Tachibana³
    Marth
    Celica⁴
    Bubbles⁵
    Mach Rider⁶
    Mr. Game & Watch
    • ¹Wario would be primarily based on the Wario Land series
    • ²Ganondorf would be fully de-cloned
    • ³Ayumi would be a semi-clone using Peach's and Zelda's attacks
    • ⁴Celica would be a Marth Echo with equal damage across the blade, but her versions of Marth's specials would instead incorporate magic with recoil damage
    • ⁵Bubbles would be a Kirby Echo with variations of Kirby's specials based on Clu Clu Land
    • ⁶Mach Rider would be a Captain Falcon Echo with the neutral special changed to a machine gun and the side special changed to a bike dash
I'm also going to jot down stages well:

I don’t know why I never thought of this before, but you guys know how Mach Rider was supposed to be in Melee? Well, what if Mach Rider got into Melee as the Captain Falcon clone?
What potential new franchises would you like to see in the next Smash game? Whether it be from Nintendo, 3rd party companies already represented, or new companies altogether.
    DragonRobotKing26
    DragonRobotKing26
    Sega-Puyo Puyo
    Capcom-Resident Evil
    Namco-Soul Calibur
    Konami-Bomberman
    Torgo the Bear

    Yo-kai Watch
Ghosts n Goblins (outside of Arthur's spirit)
    StarTropics

And while it would never happen, World of Goo.

    Also Popeye

Truthfully, whilst this isn't necessarily a "franchise", if Spirits (or even Trophies) come back in the future, I'd love to see Nintendo itself get into the series. (Or hell, even other consoles from other companies if they wanted - I'm sure SEGA wouldn't mind stuff like the Genesis getting in.) Whether it be things like consoles, their earlier arcade titles, or even going back to their toys or hanafuda cards, it'd be a really cool element of history that'd be nice to see added to the historical aspect of the Smash franchise.

That said, I do think it'd also be fun to see a Picross stage. It's not a "massive series" on the level of like, Splatoon, but Picross is a reasonably significant puzzle series that Nintendo's been overseeing for some time.

Oh, and one more thing - give Pikachu an alt that gives him his scarf from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. It seems too obvious not to include, in my opinion.
You think if the NASB devs were allowed to work on the next Smash game (whether it be a new game or something like Ult. Deluxe), it would be a match made in heaven?
I understand not many people miss the era in the mid-2000’s with western properties pumping out video games like no tomorrow but with that being said; considering the praise for licensed games pumped out by companies like, for example, Capcom and Konami back in the 90’s, I also think the companies that own those western properties should have also branched out to other Japanese developers more often back in the mid-2000’s along with the western developers they’ve worked with.
Wow…to think this would be my 10,000th post.
Aside from this, what non-character stuff do you guys want? For me:

    Time for fantasy roster #493531208

What do you guys think of this one? For Melee, I made it a point to trim down the roster for the sake of focusing on the unique newcomers and minimizing the clones.

Okay so I’m going to play my own game: I’m going to replace Piranha Plant with Bandana Waddle Dee BUT I’m going to put the latter in the base game. I’m also going to give Vol. 1 six slots to work with to even out with Vol. 2. As for the characters in each volume:

    Vol. 1
    • Joker
    • Hero
    • Crash Bandicoot
    • Pyra / Mythra
    • Terry
    • Banjo & Kazooie

    Vol. 2
    • Chun-Li
    • Dr. Eggman
    • Sephiroth
    • Min Min
    • Kazuya
    • Sora
