  • Something to consider: Why are superheroes from New York City, that have New York accents, so rare? NYC is an incredibly common setting for many superheroes, such as Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, all of the Watchmen, hell even Captain America and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! (Especially odd in that last case, considering the only way they'd have learned to speak is from copying the New York accents of the people above the sewers...)

I feel like this is something you'll never unhear when you realise it.
Really random take here, but one thing I love a lot about modern Doctor Who is that we're beginning to see a lot more of the classic designs of some of the monsters. 60s-era Daleks have appeared a few times, there was the special featuring all of the Cybermen looks (with the Tenth Planet one as a main character which I actually love) and then more recently, the Fourth Doctor-era Sontarans in Flux. I personally love seeing this kind of thing - especially when you consider the nature of Doctor Who as a series about time travel, visiting civilisations and species at different points in time would be quite interesting (and, generally speaking... is kind of a missed opportunity overall.)

It's also why I like it when monsters from the older series, like the Autons or the Zygons, return in a genuinely interesting and well-written way (unlike the treatment of, say, the Weeping Angels.) I think the Autons especially were very well-done back in Rose, really delving into the potential of a situation like that in the modern era - treatment that a lot of other monsters, such as the Wire as seen in The Idiot's Lantern, would be fun to have (I know it's more modern but it's SUCH A COOL CONCEPT.)

For instance, imagine a modern story featuring the Ood but before they were enslaved in the 39th Century, having their connection to the Ood Brain explored and their connection to the Doctor observed (as well as, perhaps, their relation to their cousin species in the Sensorites!) or an ongoing story similar in concept to Flux or Trial of a Time Lord with a main villain in the form of Omega - or even just to see older villains like the Axons, the return of the Wire in a modern context, or, in an ideal world... the Chumblies. (My beloved.)
Random observation on MultiVersus: I really like that they're willing to experiment with weirder mechanics in this one. Things like Arya's ability to replicate the moves of her opponents, or Finn's heavy attacks being more powerful if you use them whilst moving, are just really fun and interesting things to see. (Speaking of Finn, I like that he's even managed to somehow include a shop feature where you can get buffs, that's cool.) There's a lot of moves with unique mechanics and skills and the like that are just really cool to see included.
I feel like Knuckles not being in Sonic CD is a weirdly missed opportunity. The game's main focus is on something Knuckles' gameplay excels at - namely exploration - and it feels a bit weird that they wouldn't take advantage of that.

To be honest, Knuckles' gameplay has so much potential in so many forms. Like, with a few changes, I wouldn't mind a game similar to the treasure-hunting sections from the Adventure series but with modern technology and effective tweaks. I can imagine it actually being really fun - using various different abilities and the like and seeing older Sonic zones interpreted in 3D would be awesome, and HD Pumpkin Hill would be awesome too. I mean, it'll never happen (mostly because of the existence of Chaotix) but it'd still be very, very cool.
What a beautiful place to be, I sure love living in a civilised society where people aren't constantly being brainwashed

Okay, random thought that just occurred to me but like

It'd be really cool if characters from Lethal League were to feature, in some way, in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (even just as costumes or side characters.) I don't necessarily mean in a canon sense, but with characters like Jet and Candyman, I could really see them working as characters on a gameplay front.
so uh um dream review i guess i have like a sleep schedule about as reliable as any investment into venezuelan property so i like just woke up and apparently dream reviews are like a big meta here on smashboards so like **** it imma dive in on it

so like i was at some restraunt and they gave me like a salad but it was like, an actual bush and there was a human head there and i was like "waiter, there's a head in my soup" despite it being salad but then like it became. salad soup? then the chandelier fell through the ceiling or something and my chair broke and then i woke up in a cold sweat covered in cold coffee

6/10 needs more structured continuity imo
this image actually makes me feel kinda sad :(

    sans-serif is taking over :(
I seem to have a running theme of loving random 80s-era posters, don't I? Well, this one's next - the poster for Baraduke just evokes such an amazing atmosphere. Genuinely, it feels almost oppressive as we see the lone protagonist (Kissy) in this colossal chasm, surrounded by nothing but rocky outcrops and mysterious beasts. The logo also has tons of that 80s charm - whilst I'm not sure on the green outline, it looks really nice and stands out. I love how artistic this feels, with the Japanese subtitle and Namco branding being subdued - the focus is clearly on the artwork. What does it mean? Who is this protagonist? Where is this mysterious, terrifying location? I feel like this is how you really sell a game, especially in a crowded arcade. It feels like something that'd draw your eye.

    POT NOODLE REVIEW #2:
    CHICKEN & MUSHROOM

It's a slow Saturday evening here in the UK and given that my nan's currently at the pub, I'm taking the opportunity to once again review some Pot Noodle. Tonight's review is on the Chicken and Mushroom flavour, and I have to say - despite it being often seen as the "basic" flavour, much like Ready Salted crisps, I think this is a very nice combination. I'm not sure where the green and yellow colour scheme of the packaging originates from, though I presume the yellow represents the chicken and perhaps the mushroom is represented by a more natural colour? However, on the note of box art, I love that the chicken is being ridden, even if the inclusion of a mushroom on the Joust player's shield feels a little shoehorned in. I think it tastes a lot more appealing than Beef and Tomato, mostly likely due to the inclusion of Soy Sauce as opposed to Tomato Sauce, which gives it both a lovely taste and smell. Overall, whilst the design leaves a little to be desired (despite my favourite colour being green,) the taste really brings the score up.

    Final Pot Noodle Rating:

Thanks for checking out my second review! Feel free to drop a like if you enjoyed it and want to see more future Pot Noodle reviews. The first one got a huge positive response and I'm glad I'm making the content y'all want to see. Until next time, that's just another fair use review!
    POT NOODLE REVIEW #1:
    BEEF & TOMATO

Okay so today I tried the Beef and Tomato flavour and it was kinda... mid. Tasted a little weird and didn't really sit right in terms of after taste and just... yeah. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't pick it over Chicken and Mushroom. Overall, I think it could have been a lot worse, but it's not to my particular taste. Overall, though, I do like the design of the pot itself - I believe the Pot is just as important as the Noodle, after all - and the design of the bull reminds me a little of the Lamborgini logo. The tomato on it's head looks really goofy but I quite like it! Overall, nice vibes, cool colour scheme, but the contents were a little mid. Difficult to rate overall.

    Final Pot Noodle Rating:

microwaves are so weird. like, "okay lets use this alien technology that can cook a meal that should take more than half an hour in only 3 minutes" thats cool but like why make it go MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP and add like bells and loud doors and really loud motors? itd be like if the uss enterprise still had like a petrol engine or something it's just weird. like, just make good microwaves. some people need to sleep at 3am when im hungry for microwave curry
This may be a weird take to have, but personally if any anime/manga is a "perfect" pick for a platfighter, I'd say it's Boku no Hero Academia. This seems like a weird take but like, I think it'd be a genuinely brilliant pick. Hear me out:
    • A consistently well-recieved series pretty much ever since its creation, enough to the point of surprising popularity in the West as well as in Japan itself.
    • A wide array of unique characters with interesting designs and abilities that could be used in a lot of weird ways, without breaking into JoJo territory with how weird and bizarre they can get.
    • A large enough cast of "notable" characters that there's a lot of potential to add straight off the bat, but not so many that it becomes near-impossible for more weird and obscure picks to make their way in.
    • A genuine reason why characters could potentially be fighting one another in the context of their time in their various educational pursuits, as well as the conflict between villains and other schools, without the need for too many contrived explainations as to what the hell is going on.
    • A simple enough basic concept to where people don't need to have an in-depth understanding of the lore so as to not be confused by the 8 different variations of the main character - rather, it could keep itself simple and approachable, even to communities that may not necessarily be interested in "another anime fighter."
I just think it'd be a really neat thing to see. Better than One's Justice, anyways :smirk:

I'm not a fan of MHA in general, but it has a lot of potential for a platfighter (keep in mind I know nothing about One's Justice) with all the heroes/villains and their quirks. Could make for some really fun movesets.

Hell yeah! Here's an example I came up with with a slightly weirder pick: the Pro Hero, Cementoss.

He has the ability to control concrete, so his moveset would be kind of a mix between Steve and Cragg - mostly focusing on mid-range stage control by being able to create "blocks" and the like in different places. However, whilst he's a bit of a bruiser both close up and from mid-range, he struggles with long-range attacks - and he's also quite slow due to being a humanoid block of cement himself. Whilst he can be a heavy-hitter, he relies a lot on ensuring he keeps to his strengths rather than overstretching himself - having the player have to think like a Pro Hero in how they'd handle his strengths and weaknesses.

Like, this is just one random side character the potential is endless here

    Hey KneeOfJustice99 KneeOfJustice99 !
I also had an idea for MHA Platform Fighter, where MHA characters fight like in Super Smash Bros.
Okay, so I believe there's a lot of Nintendo IPs that need to come back. But here's the main one that nobody ever mentions, and yet would be perfect right about now: Pilotwings.

Think about it - the control scheme of the Nintendo Switch, being that of the Joy-Cons, would have made Pilotwings a great way to introduce the potential of the control scheme as a whole. Different control schemes would work wonders with them, and I think that combining Pilotwings's traditional gameplay with elements from Wii Sports Resort (namely the ability to fly anywhere in an open world, which I think would be an amazing mode to bring back in HD) would be an overall brilliantly fun game to see with the Switch's overall design. Well, it feels like it'd have been more memorable than 1-2-Switch. :smirk:

I just think it'd be really fun to see a game like that. I get that it wouldn't necessarily be earth-shatteringly new and innovative, but introducing perhaps a new couple of methods of flight (like maybe the chicken suit from Wii Fit?) would be a pretty fun way to make it all feel fresh!
i am currently staying somewhere that isn't my home and the most concerning thing is the annoying orange plush that's been nailed to the wall across the room in such a position that whenever i wake up, i can see the hyper-realistic eyes of that monstrosity staring at me and feel a sense of utter dread for some time afterward. i banged my head on the frame of the bed yesterday morning when i saw it :(
    This is Doug Marcaida.

You probably know him from the show Forged in Fire. You might even know him from his military service. Or from memes of him saying "it will keal."

I think he should be a Mortal Kombat DLC fighter.

I mean, the concept of him using a ridiculous number of weapons of all kinds, as well as things like animal carcasses and watermelons, in his moveset just writes itself. The concept of a Mortal Kombat blacksmith is so dumb that it'd be genius.

Also Inspector Gadget should be in the next one

I'm actually crying right now. I feel like a proud parent. Sure, Ice Age was a ****ty cashgrab that went on way too long but it was our ****ty cashgrab that went on way too long.

Goodbye, Scrat... and thank you for everything.
Please, a moment to appreciate Mega Man 1's European box art. It looks like a poster for some kind of 60s-era Japanese B-movie, like a live-action version of Astroboy or something - if this were a film, I'd watch it!

    Anyway, thank you and goodnight.
Continuing from my previous post, I got bored - so here's my concept for what "Golden Age Superman" would look like in a new LEGO DC CMF. I decided his main "weapon" should be a replica of one of the loose wheels seen on the cover of Action Comics #1, plus given the sheer importance of the comic itself in history, I decided to toss a print of that in as a sort of bonus on a 2x3 tile. The design's only a semi-WIP that I threw together in like half an hour but I think it looks really cool!
If we ever see an Injustice 3, one thing I'd love to see is more costumes that actually change the look of the character a little. I'm not so much talking the Flash/Reverse Flash situation, but moreso something like seeing Superman's appearance from Action Comics #1 or something would be incredibly cool (alongside keeping the ability to change colour schemes.)

Y'know on that, if LEGO ever do a second DC line of their Minifigures, I hope they have Action Comics #1 Superman as one of the minifigs. I bet he'd look really cool in that design, and I'm kinda surprised they went for the classic Batman over him... though admittedly it was cool to see Jay Garrick too. I think just more Golden Age stuff in the series would be fun, like the classic Green Lantern or maybe someone like Plastic Man!

God I just ****ing love Mug Root Beer so much it’s unreal. I drink that stuff up every single day and with every single meal I eat. I’ll grab the biggest cup money can buy - not to mention my handy Mug Canteen that I keep on my person at all times - and fill it right up as high as I can, and I drink that whole goddamn thing right down, savoring every single delectable drop of the Lord’s purest drink. It’s become such an addiction that I’ve stopped drinking anything other than Mug Root Beer. I’ve lost count but I believe that this past weekend was my 17th trip to the hospital to pass yet another kidney stone from the sheer amount of soda I’m drinking. It does not deter me. I’m the one and only Mug Maniac, drinking entire cases of the sweetest drink known to all humankind, and I’ll chug my Mug until my dying days. I display my kidney stones proudly in cases on my wall; the wall of Mug. It doesn’t stop at drinking Mug, though. I’ve actually become quite the infamous figure in the root beer community, committing various crimes and devious licks against other root beer production centers. This past week alone, I’ve broken into five different production centers for Barq’s and vandalized a large portion of the manufacturing equipment, resulting in the temporary closures of the facilities. That is, until they permanently close after the small, but significant structural damage I’ve done to the facilities. When those godless demons working on the production lines are buried in rubble, I hope their last thoughts are of regret at not having found the glorious light of Mug. But my plans go greater than even this, too. I’ve been stockpiling a personal supply of Mug for this great plan. It wasn’t cheap, either. I had to spend hundreds of thousands on a refrigerated warehouse in which I’ve stored millions of gallons of the highest quality Mug Root Beer. In about three days, I’m going to get a convoy of trucks ready, and I’ll be dumping as much Mug as I can into the water supplies of various municipalities in the Detroit metropolitan area. I’ve waited years for this, and now I plan on spreading the glory of Mug Root Beer to the rest of the world. Be ready

The sheer energy in the image is just.. wow. Mario looks like he's about to liberate a country, Donkey Kong looks terrifying like jeez man, I think he needs his caffeine... but I feel like the thing that makes it even weirder is aspects like the barrel being glistening silver, and the realistic interpretation of the scaffolding and ladders just being in the void... god this feels like some horrible bootleg comic, why does the Hammer look like a mix between Mjolnir and Shazam?? What is this??

Box art used to be so good. Like, imagine if this was the Mario world we knew nowadays.
Hey y'all. I just wanna take this opportunity to thank everyone here for, well, everything. My time on this site has been a weird transitional period for me in more ways than one - discovering my own identity and, well... becoming a functioning human being. Not much interesting stuff admittedly - but I wanted to thank you all.

I've been here for around 3 years now and I'll admit I've changed a lot since then. I was so childish back then (and I'm so sorry for the badly-made arguments and objectively wrong statements!) I'd like to think I've grown, looking back. Looking ahead to a future where I'm likely going to be in a university, I'm in a stable position, and yet I'm still chilling here with y'all? It's kinda amazing to think about to be honest.

So... yeah. I don't wanna clog up the front page with a soppy essay so I'll end it off here, but thank you all so much - from both me and my kinda dumb 15-year-old self. It's been a pleasure, and I'm sure it'll continue to be! (Also don't panic, I'm not going anywhere! This isn't a goodbye post or anything.) I'll leave y'all with a quote that I think everyone needs to hear at least once.

"Anything capable of being imagined will, some day, be made into reality." - Jules Verne.

    Thank you and goodnight.
This may be a hot take, but I've been giving this a lot of thought, and I've come to a quite weird conclusion. Objectively speaking, Ravio is probably the best pick for the next Zelda rep if we're looking for a unique character. Why? Well...

    1. Ravio represents the 3DS era as a whole, an era somewhat lacking in representation in Smash overall. Sure, representation isn't the be-all and end-all but it is still a cool thing to look at right?

    2. He also represents A Link to the Past by proxy. Sort of. Okay it's weird - basically his rabbit-like design is a reference to Link's appearance in the Dark World in that game. So it sort of counts.

    3. He represents a part of Zelda we haven't really seen all too much in other characters: Items. Zelda, in essence, is a game about items. The dungeons (before BotW at least) were built around how you could use a new item to solve a problem. Ravio sells them for a living! Whether it be a Zelda rep finally getting the Fire Rod, or some weirder ideas in how you could utilise weird and wonderful items like the Sand Rod, the Pegasus Boots and the Power Glove. Like, imagine him using the Hookshot as a grab, and then the Power Glove as a close-up pummel similar to Mega Man's "pummel?" Imagine him soaring through the air with the Tornado Rod - or perhaps setting up traps with the Fire and Ice Rods?

I am completely unbiased and a reliable source. Trust me. My uncle works at [OBJECTIVELY CORRECT INC.]
This is probably a really hot take but I think that the CGI in Tron (1982) is way better than anyone gives it credit for. Personally, a part of me thinks it's because of the context of the movie itself - it's not trying to pass off the CGI as real, so it kinda has a tech demo feel to it. Even so, I love the look - that sort of wireframe vibe is one of the only things I kind of missed from the 2010 remake, and I think it's a really amazing showcase of the technology of the time. It might not have aged well in comparison to the blockbuster movies of the modern MCU, sure - but it truly feels almost monumental, watching it without expectations like "oh this'll be terrible" or something.

Tl;dr, it's not the best movie in the world, but it sure looks good for the time. End of line.
Random thought that just occurred to me - it'd be so cool to see how an Invisible Man type character were handled in the Darkstalkers series, but then at the same time it's like "how do you make such a non-offensive ability work well in a fighting game?" I mean sure he could drop a train on folks but I'm not sure... there's probably a good idea here somewhere. Maybe go with a sort of fusion of that archetype and the mad scientist trope?

Y'know on this, I'd love to see how a character based on the Martians from The War of the Worlds would be interpreted. Like, I know that at that point you're slightly moving away from the whole supernatural aura but I mean, Pyron does come from deep space so I guess it could count? I think they'd be cool to see - go fully in with that 30s-50s era extraterrestrial weirdness like in the movies and all that and you'd be golden!
I discovered something very important a day late, and I'm very peeved about it. Turns out it was Nosferatsu's 100th anniversary yesterday - being the oldest surviving movie adaptation of Dracula, and essentially a cornerstone of the horror genre, it's hella important... and yet like, I didn't hear anyone talk about it. Anyways, I'm going to give it a watch today - I've taken quite the interest in really old movies as is (I've always loved Metropolis, for example) so I'm hoping it's good. :)
Some random dumbass idea I just came up with on the fly in a Discord call kinda warranted me sticking it here so uh here y'all go - imagine if there was, like, something similar to Marvel vs Capcom... but instead, with Dark Horse vs. Image? Hear me out here.

With Dark Horse, you get a ton of really cool characters and IPs to work with, such as:
    • Hellboy.
    • The Mask (who I'm shocked didn't get into Mortal Kombat, he'd be amazing in it.)
    • The Umbrella Academy.
    • Abe Sapien.
    • Oh, and Barb Wire, who'd be pretty cool to see (please not the Pamela Anderson version though)
    • Pretty much all of CGW, which includes characters like Ghost and X who'd be fun to work with!
    • The Goon, who'd be pretty cool too!
    • Usagi Yojimbo, literally having Miyamoto Usagi - a samurai rabbit - as the main character.
    • Black Hammer, which would be a cool series to see here somehow.
    • If you count third party IPs for DLC or something, Dark Horse is most notable for their works with the Alien IP, but also things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Predator and Conan amongst others. Plenty of potential!
Oh, and for Image? Well, you get:
    • Invincible (which has become hella popular since the adaptation!)
    • Spawn (who does already have history in fighting games, specifically SoulCalibur II!)
    • The Wicked + The Divine (which seems to have been hella well recieved!)
    • Kick-Ass.
    • Monstress.
    • Deadly Class.
    • Astro City.
    • The Maxx.
    • Jupiter's Legacy.
    • And if you're counting third party IPs here as well - well, you get IPs like The Walking Dead, G.I. Joe, The Crow, and technically the original TMNT - so some solid options here!
Yes I know that both of these are mostly made up of creator-owned properties but it'd still be cool as hell okay pls make it happen
