Character Name: Napoleon Bonaparte
Character Origin: Daitouryou (Hanafuda Cards, 1889)

It's easy for people to think of Nintendo and think, "Oh, the company that makes games." Well they have made games. For over 100 years. People don't seem to realise this, given that the average joe thinks they started in around the 1980s. However, it's in response to this that I've picked Napoleon Bonaparte. Well, technically. See, he's at all times trapped inside one such card, which has animations similar to that of the Balance Board in Wii Fit.

Aside from Hanafuda as a concept being very much unknown to the modern world, especially in the West, I think this is a weird enough pick to reasonably make sense to include. Sure, it might have "sold" quite a lot, but I don't think the original would have sold well - and Napoleon's likeness in future Nintendo products, such as a 1970s board game, were extremely unsuccessful. Even so, however, Hanafuda is still consistent enough in Nintendo to be relevant - included in both Clubhouse Games titles, for example. I'd like to stress, however, this isn't a Clubhouse rep, but rather represents non-gaming Nintendo products. For example, as well as having card-based moves, it could work well to include other Nintendo toys - such as the Ultra Hand and the Ultra Machine.

Admittedly, it's difficult to tell for sure whether Daitouryou has sold more than 1 million units, but Napoleon isn't really the main protagonist of the game. He's kind of just there as an NPC. As such, I have reason to believe this is elegible - but feel free to tell me if not!

(Also, sorry I wasn't here for the voting earlier, SmashBoards keeps not alerting me to notifications lol)
I was purposely keeping information on pre-gaming Nintendo vague - because I wanted to surprise people when I submitted it myself (though it wasn't hanafuda). You're good, and Napoleon is eligible.

He's the mentor character from the game where you draw loops around Pokémon with a stylus. Due to how nobody remembers the Ranger games I think this guy needs a quick buck, and getting hired by Waluigi and Morbius for their game could maybe get him out of a bad spot. His moveset would revolve around the Capture Styler, using it to be a unique grappler-character who could use joystick rotations as part of his moveset.

As we all know, Nintendo did not start as a video game company. Their roots in Hanafuda have already been mentioned, and their brief adventure in Love Hotels is well known for it's irony against the backdrop of modern Nintendo, but those aren't the only ones. While everyone knows about Mario Kart, and Nintendo has more niche racing games like F-Zero, Exitebike, and Mach Rider, what I think most don't know is that they briefly had a more... tactile driving operation.

NEW FIGHTER - NINTENDO TAXI CAR
1650843433871.png

If you were in Japan in 1964 and ordered a taxi (something I'm certain we can all relate to), there's a decent chance you rode upon a taxi owned by Nintendo. This venue was very short lived, a problem with the labor union caused it to shut down after only a couple months, but it happened. In Z-List Fight Club, the Nintendo Taxi Car would look roughly like it does above, with more tinted windows. This is to raise a question: Who's diving the car (if anyone, it could just be a sentient Taxi Cab)? It would be a very fast character (on account of being a car), though it would have a poor recovery (on account of being a car). If need be, perhaps it could call upon the other odd Nintendo venues of the 60's, such as the Love Hotel and Instant Ramen.

From a lore perspective, there are a number of options. Perhaps Waluigi found it in the dump, and nursed it back to life? Maybe morbius bit it, making it an undead vampire-taxi? Maybe it's driver is too shy to join the fight club with their face exposed? Maybe the (sentient) Taxi Cab has been serving as a hitman in Pittsburgh for several decades? We can take this in infinite directions.

A flying sea-creature sky pirate from the Game & Watch version of Balloon Fight. Yes, his name spelled backwards may be familiar, but how many even knew that there was a different version of Balloon Fight and that it had named villain? At least before the Internet, anyways. I imagine him fighting like a cross between the Creature from the Black Lagoon and a typical pirate, floating around on balloons. Quite strange, indeed.

I nominate Henry Fleming from Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.!

14899.png

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., while a great game, absolutely bombed, selling at most 200,000 copies, of which a bit over 197,000 came from outside of Japan. That's right...this game sold only a little over 2,000 copies in Japan! And that will forever be sad.

Henry would offer a unique playstyle utilizing S.T.E.A.M.'s weaponry. His weapon of choice is his signature Eagle Rifle, which fires three steam bullets in quick succession. In addition, he could use other sub-weapons as well. The Steam Crossbow is a sniping tool that does more damage to enemies who are facing away from Henry, while the Jump Booster, when combined with the Rocket Pack, allows Henry to rocket upward. Henry can also enter an Overwatch state, where he takes a defensive stance that locks onto and auto fires at whoever comes close, for the cost of steam. Henry would have a steam tank mechanic, where each special used would use a certain amount of steam, which refills whenever Henry is stationary. For his most powerful attack, Henry has the devastating Eagle Strike, in which he lobs an eagle-shaped steam grenade at the foe which explodes in patriotic fury!

Henry is also the perfect combination of both original fighters...he's a Nintendo character like Waluigi, and in-universe, he's a comic book character like Morbius!

Resubmitting Mike Jones from StarTropics.

Job 1:

Mike Jones (StarTropics)

View attachment 350352

StarTropics was one of the many obscure Nintendo franchises not to be represented in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. However, here is where Mike Jones can get a chance to shine. He's got his yo-yo, baseball pitching skills, etc. He will put up a good fight against Waluigi and Morbius.

Primarina (Pokémon)

View attachment 350348

She’s a Water Fairy Type Seal Mermaid thing that is my favorite Pokémon of all time, and one of my most wanted fighters for actual Smash. She’s not the most obscure character here, but I feel like her being overshadowed HARD by Decidueye and Incineroar, and even Popplio to some extent, justifies her inclusion on this Roster full of Z-Listers. As for a potential Ground Work? I think making her a majestic Rushdown Character who uses her unique build to her advantage to show off her grace as a Dancer Mermaid thing.
So, you suggested Brionne, so I’m using Brionne. Imagine my Primarina Description but smaller, less powerful, and more playful than her calm full evolved.

It's time to vote, everyone! Sorry for being late, i am an incredibly lazy person. Vote for your top 3, your top vote can't be your own. Your options are...
Tsubasa Oribe from Fire Emblem/Shin Megami Tensei
Muddy Mole

Muddy Mole is a protagonist of obscure Game Boy title "Mole Mania". He is a husband of Maggie Mole and father of his children. One day, an evil farmer Jinbe stole his family and Muddy needs to save it from the clutches of Jinbe.
Muddy is one of obscure Nintendo characters that would fit in Z-List fight club.

His moveset would reference his game, where he pushes objects like in sokoban puzzle games. He could dig underground, throw metal balls at opponents of even push objects, which is cool.
His Final Smash would be, where he could summon Jinbe to attack opponents with his farming tools.

Muddy Mole should join this roster, because we should have a Gameboy character in Z-list fight club. Also, he would be first small-framed fighter in our roster.
Parabo and Satabo(Satellaview)

Parabo and Satabo are the mascots of the obscure video game console called the Satellaview. When you insert a catridge into the Satellaview, it would be different depending on what day it was. That's because the Satellaview works via transmitted games from a satellite.
Girl from Hajimari no Mori/Komurasaki

View attachment 351116

You know you’ve got it bad when Sakurai can’t even remember your name when he includes you as a spirit. At least he remembers who Waluigi is.

Komurasaki is a yokai from the 1999 Super Famicom title Famicom Bunko: Hajimari no Mori, which translates to Famicom Pocket Books: The Forest of Beginnings. She’s a yokai who befriends the protagonist at the beginning of the game, and the two spend the rest of the game trying to reunite with each other. She also has the goal of trying to restore the forest of the game’s rural Japanese setting.

Because of the game being released late into the Super Famicom’s lifespan and only releasing on the obscure Nintendo Power cartridge, the game was fated to fall into obscurity, only being remembered by most for the Smash Ultimate spirit. Knowing what it’s like to be outcast by Sakurai and seeing how much worse the forest yokai has been treated, Waluigi would jump at the opportunity to form an alliance with her and get her to join his roster.

Virtual Boy
Okay, okay, this is pretty unorthodox as technically outside of the commercials for this thing it's not exactly a character. Rather the virtual boy is actually a consoel that played a whopping 22 games, due to eye strain and a mediocre library it was discontinued after a year and the console was quickly swept under the rug only being brought up in a mocking sense. But ththat'the unique part, Virtual Boy can not only represent the library of mediocre games they have but also every cruddy nintendo peprial from the 90s such as the Power Glove, Rolling Rocker, and N64 Microphone. And if you think it isnt a character take a look at this.

Spenser (Pokémon Ranger)

Taxi, I just want to see a car fight, perhaps not even like how Hornet did, just like how a car would have to fight. The other two, even though one is one of my own, feel the absolutely most obscure.

1. Nintendo Taxi Cab. (A small part of me really likes the idea of seeing just a deadass car fighting here. Nothing much more to it.)
2. Girl from Hadgimari no Mori (I don't even know who this is, as such, she's an objectively good pick.)
3. Parabo and Satabo (Satellaview is such a cool "system" to represent here! Suggestion: you can only play as the characters during a set amount of time each day and they're removed from the game permenantly when the online is taken down.)

Honourable mention to Pappy Van Poodle, but his recent prominence due to Nick Robinson's videos on him would, in my mind, make him not obscure enough. I also considered the Virtual Boy as a really genuinely solid choice, but again, it's too well-known in the Nintendo community to really be "obscure".

Voting is done! We had some good submissions, but only one could prevail - I can't bring myself to crunch the numbers, but I think Nintendo Taxi Cab won! If I'm wrong please correct me.

Job #6 - Write a Trailer for the Taxi Cab

What are we going with here? With Waluigi, Morbius, and Six-Gun Gorilla it's pretty obvious, but there are a lot of roads that we could drive down. Is the taxi cab being driven by someone, or is the car sentient? Is it coming directly from the '60s, or has it been aging in real time (being roughly 60 years old)? Does it have any superpowers, or is it just a car?
It has been a while lol.
astute ****ing observation. yes, it's been awhile since i've updated the thread. i forgot that my sole life purpose is to keep a smashboards thread running. i have no possible reasons for not being militant about this. you know, i went to bed yesterday, and right as i laid down to bed i realized "aw ****, i didn't update the thread". I was literally dreading doing this all day, and your witty comment didn't make me more exited. i didn't forget. i have the burden of memory. All my past failures, weighing on me at all times, compounding with ADHD. i also have something called a ****ing life. It's a ****ty one, yes, but it involves more than this.

I’m imagining it would’ve aged in real time, being found in a dumpster after all, but would’ve been refurbished by a team Waluigi hired from Mario Kart, with all its bells and whistles included. I think there should be a driver, as for who I’m imagining Kapp’n from Animal Crossing could be bribed into driving it. It has Superpowers, but it’s mostly just instinct, which causes the Hornet Style Hand to Hand, and the occasional life steal in the back. I think it works. Potentially the skins are different drivers as well, with Waluigi potentially also getting Toadette or Rodrick (he owes him money) to drive the taxi as well.

Honestly I’m sorry. Half the time I don’t think and clearly this is one of those cases. I’m a horrid human being irl anc I sincerely apologize. Do you want me to leave this thread? Because if so I will. You can even remove all of my contributions if you want.

Yeah. If I ever do another reminder post it’s definitely going to be more polite than me saying it’s been a while after three days lmao. I do have an idea for a Morbius Moveset so maybe I could post that? Who knows. Sorry, I apologize, and that’s probably never happening again.

My thought here is that it's a bit of a fusion between the movie Cars, and a literal car. It has the "superpower" of driving itself, but aside from that, that's it. I mean, we could have Gunpei Yokoi inside perhaps, but I think the novelty of a car driving itself around woulld be very fun to see. Also, it's aged in real time, but recently got refurbished. Morbius used some of his earnings from starring in a multi-morbillion production, as well as some of Waluigi's semi-legal cut of the WarioWare profits, to get the Taxi back up and running.

The trailer itself would start with Morbius, Waluigi, and the Six-Gun Gorilla, walking in a city by night. Well, Morbius and Waluigi are sticking together, Six Gun Gorilla's currently like tearing open some bags of trash in the background. It seems that they're trying to hail a taxi, but all of the taxis pass them (with various types, including a London taxi, a NYC taxi, even B.D. Joe from Crazy Taxi drives past.) They're all busy, and choose not to stop, as it conveniently begins to rain. Suddenly, Six-Gun Gorilla tosses a dumpster across the street, revealing something under a tarpaulin, as we see them all get an idea.

Cut to them driving down a desert, interspersed with close-up shots of them fixing the vehicle, before the reveal that it's... a taxi? It pans around the side, and suddenly we see the logo - and as the Taxi drives away, the splash screen arrives: Nintendo Taxi Picks Up a Win!

Also, I'm really sorry about everything that's been going on recently. I know there's not a lot I can do at all, but if it's any help, you don't have to worry about updating the thread regularly or anything like that. After all - I think I can speak for everyone here when I say that your mental health is more important than a SmashBoards thread (in the nicest possible way.) I truly hope things get better for you soon - and if there's any way I can help at all, feel free to ask!

You know, I was going to submit something but I feel like Knee of Justice's idea is best so i'm not going to bother. He won. Congrats.

Job 7 - Create a moveset for Nintendo Taxi Cab

What it sounds like. We're going with the idea of it being a sentient taxi car, driving itself. it can't turn into a transformer or anything like that. the only things it could do are things that cars do, plus whatever Morbius and Waluigi could do to augment it.

Job 8 - Waluigi alt costumes

Also what it sounds like. Waluigi needs to have cool alternate colors, to draw in investors. No more than two alts per person, unless it's going slow. We're going to add 9 alts. don't worry, they don't need to make much sense. just attach a cool story to it. Here's a submission from me: Mario colors.

(I can't be bothered to get a picture of mario. you know what he looks like.)

In an attempt to perhaps draw the interest of blind (but not colorblind) combatants, he's donning a red hat and blue overalls. he taped a paper copy of Mario's mustache onto his face, and the outfit is padded to look a little wider, like Mario . There's a mustard stain on the overalls, left knee. they didn't really get out in the wash and Waluigi doesn't really want to buy a new pair of jeans. so he just deals with it.

Let’s go over some costume ideas I’ve had.

~~technically cheating but Bus Driver getting a green Recolor could be neat. Not officially submitting it though.~~
A Brawl in the Family Style Semi-Recolor of his default which is Waluigi’s best attempt at copying Sora’s Timeless River Alt.

Well, as it turns out, Waluigi really was bothered by that mustard stain. Like, a lot. So he decided the best option was to get some better laundry detergent - but that's hard to do when you have no money. Luckily, Waluigi discovered that he was a niche internet micro-celebrity, and that that gave him the power to sell out! In exchange for a lifelong supply of clothing cleaning supplies, Waluigi has a skin in Z-List Fight Club that is a literal walking advertisement for Clorox.
