You're missing out on a lot if you hate the originals, they have amazing sound tracks and gameplay. Doomsday Zone will forever be my favorite level in the series.

^This.

But seriously I hate retro sonic never really grew up on it Just the advance series. Graphics look like an eyesore. Which is mainly why I don't wanna buy it.
This is so backwards. I can't speak for the graphics because I still think they look great, but the Genesis Sonic games are far and away the best ones in the series. Sonic Advance sucks and the games only got worse from there.

I think that the Sonic advance games were eh.
Still better than the 3D ones, but still, you are misiing out by not playing the Genesis Sonics, which are the best.

Sonic advance 3 was great, can't speak for the other two.

I'm not so hot on the retro ones either.

Okay, I'll admit it that Sonic 1 has not aged very well and plain isn't very fun to play. Sonic 2, 3 and Knuckles are the pinnacle of the "Sonic experience". Much better level design and gameplay than Advance's "hold right to win" strategy.

Stamping your library books.
The screen to my old GBA SP broke a few years back, and I decided to see if I could still play Sonic Advance by just holding right.

To my surprise, I actually cleared the first level.

Advance 1 had the gameplay nailed down. Advance 2 had the music nailed down, but it was faaaast. Advance 3's partner system was meh.

I don't want to nercobump an older thread so I'll post this here.

I wish this engine was used in Sonic 4 LOL.
Yea, I saw that and was blown away. Makes me wish that it was a real game >.>

☯ Hopefully it come's with LoZ Skyword Sword, I think the new Wiimote is going to be a bit pricey compare to the Wiimote.

Not to mention it also comes with a game, similar to how you could get Wii Plus with a Wiimote. (Come on, you know you got it because it was basially $10 + the controller price, not because you were paying $50 for a game with a "free" wiimote. :p)

I'm not too surprised, the Wii is still a hot item and has a lot of life in it, besides, being graphically inferior to it's competitors didn't stop the Game Boy from wiping the floor with them. They may also be trying to get the Wii to beat not only the Playstation 3 and XBox 360 in sales, but the original Playstation aswell: with another 15 million US units, the Wii would not only make it have more sales than the PS3 and X360 combined, but it would be within 10 million of the Playstation 1 (excluding other regional sales). It's getting there pretty quicky too, as Nintendo says the Wii has sold 20% more consoles in it's lifespan than the PS2 did with that time frame. On a similar note, I wonder if the DS will be able to pass the Playstation 2 as the most sold system. It's only 11 million away from Playstation 2's 146 million sales, and made up that ground waayyyy faster than the PS2 did.

I don't think 2011 is a MUST anyway, the 3DS needs to bask in it's epicness for at least a year before it's own company throws competition for sales. :p I think late 2012 would be the earliest bet for a WiiToo.

I don't think we'll see the next generation of video game consoles till at least 2013/2014. The longer the console life cycle, the better it is for us consumers. I'm perfectly happy with my Xbox 360 at the moment and don't feel like putting down $500+ for the next generation of consoles.

Plus, the next cycle will proceed further down that path of becoming some kind of useful media hub. With each new generation, the video game aspect of the consoles becomes "less important". This is where I feel Wii has an edge: it current has the most "logical" controller in terms of doubling as a remote for TV-type content and enjoyment.

Usually a generation lasted about 9 years. (pull it up) Due to a rapid increase in technology, the ps2/xbox/gamecube had an extremely short lifespan of 5 1/2 years. I think they will not mention 8th gen consoles until a year after 3DS (2012), and the demo will be 2013, and they will come out late 2013/2014. Really I say 2014 though.

No . . . they've been around 5-6 years for a while, if anything, the space in between systems has been steadily getting longer since the start of the industry:

Playstation: 1994
Playstation 2: 2000 (6 years later)
Playstation 3: 2006 (6 years later)

Nintendo Color TV: 1977 (JPN only)
Famciom/NES: 1983/1985 (6 years later)
SFC/SNES: 1990/1991 (7/6 years later)
N64: 1996 (5 years later)
Gamecube: 2001 (5 years later)
Wii: 2006 (5 years later)

SG-1000: 1983
Master System: 1985 (2 years later)
Genesis: 1989 (4 years later)
Saturn: 1994 (5 years later)
Dreamcast: 1998 (4 years later)

XBox: 2001
XBox360: 2005 (4 years later)

Atari 2600: 1977
Atari 5200: 1982 (5 years later)
Atari 7800: 1986 (4 years later)
Atari Jaguar: 1993 (7 years later)

Neo Geo: 1990
Neo Geo CD: 1994 (4 years later)

Game Boy: 1989
Super Game Boy (SNES cartridge which could add allow color pre-GBC): 1994 (5 years later)
Game Boy Color: 1998 (4 years later)
Game Boy Advance: 2001 (3 years later)
Nintendo DS: 2004 (3 years later)
Nintendo 3DS: 2011 (7 years later)

And the third generation was from 1983-1989, not 1980-1989 as Wikipedia states on it's system list (it even says 1983 when you click on the third generation), the video game industry tanked in 1982-1983, making a noticable divide.

That is because the eras overlap slightly, and that also goes by the games launched. For example, the last NES games came out in 1995, but the system itself was already obselete to the SNES, which came out in 1991, and the Genesis, which came out in 1989.

Here's a list based on the gaming criteria:

1st Generation (1972-1977):
-First Consoles
2nd Generation (1976-1983):
-First Cartridge Games. LCD handheld games emerge
3rd Generation (1983-1995):
-Music and SFX becomes more common
-colored screens become a mainstay
4th Generation (1989-1999):
-Games become more colorful
-Screen bending effects and pseudo-3D become possible
-Emergence of the first successful cartridge-based handhelds
-First CD-based games emerge, but are too expensive.
5th Generation (1994-2004):
-CD-Based games become viable and 3D graphics take over the market. (Don't ask why it says it stops at 2001 on wikipedia, Playstation games were made well into 2004)
6th Generation (1998-Current):
-Online gaming emerges
-CD-based games kill off cartridge-based console gaming
-handhelds become the equivalent of 4th/5th generation systems
7th Generation (2004-Current):
-Handhelds catch up to the 5th/6th Generation
-rechargable batteries become the primary handheld power source (rather than alkaline batteries like before)
-lighted handheld screens become a mainstay
-Online gaming soars in popularity
-downloadable content/games emerge
- touch/motion controls become more common

Now, from a technical standpoint, we still have 6th generation game systems coming out: Playstation 2s can still be brought brand new. However, if you consider the emergence of a new era as a criteria for the end of an old one, the length changes:

3rd Generation (1983-1989/1991):
16-bit generation games come in 1989, with the last major 8-bit system, the NES, being directly replaced by the SNES in 1991.
4th Generation (1989-1994/1996) 32-bit systems start to come in during 1993-1994, but wasn't really popular until the latter. You can see the SNES and Sega respond in style at this time, with the former using new chips to make 3-D graphics, rotation, and more graphics palette usage, while the latter created a peripheral [the 32X] to make the Sega Genesis stay strong. Sega [shortly after] replaced the Genesis/32X with the Saturn in 1995 and Nintendo was late to the party in 1996. Which was when the SNES and the 4th generation were all-but-completely replaced
5th Generation (1994-2000/2001) 32-bit and 64-bit graphics came in, but were replaced by the 128-bit systems in 2000 and 2001.
6th Generation (2000-2005/2006) 128-bit systems completely outclass their predecessors, and get replaced by their successors in 2005/2006. The Dreamcast didn't really sell that well in it's abrupt lifespan [1998-2001], so I wouldn't really consider that to be the start of the 6th gen dominance.
7th Generation (2005/2006-Current) The Wii/X360/PS3 dominate. PS2 games are still being made and so are PS2 systems, but they are far less dominant [and they'd be even LESS dominant if it weren't for the PS3's . . . . . attributes.]

[I excluded handheld gaming because their generation lengths are not that related to the console generations]

So, depending on your viewpoints, the generations could last 10+ years or be considered reigns of "just" 6.

Ah. Thanks for the info, I was quite ignorant. :p Either way, I'd say this generation has long to go. The Wii and PS3 have much room to grow. Dunno about 360, never cared tbh.

Wii is awesome. I feel like a lot of people overlook some great games for it. I'm sticking with it.

DCKR and Sonic Colors are great.

Also, does ANY USB Keyboard work with Wii, or just Ninty ones?

Well, "any" keyboard will work. You will come across random keyboard models that fail to work for whatever reason, but generally speaking, any USB keyboard will work fine.

^ Alright, it's funny because some are 20 dollars, and "Nintendos" is like...40?

I was going to buy it until I realized that they didn't even update the graphics or anything.

They need to make a new Mario side scroller with 2D graphics. 3D graphics don't have that Mario charm to it.
