Sorry Shai Hulud, I just don't see how not having fun playing a new game competitively and preferring the older version makes you a scrub. There's nothing wrong with playing to win but I simply don't enjoy playing that style or against it. It's not scrubby to not enjoy a way a game is played at it's current metagame. It just means you prefer a different game. When UNC used to spread the floor and pass the ball around the entire game cause there was no shot clock and win 6-4 it was effective, but god was it boring. Did UNC have fun passing for 40 minutes? I guess they would say they did, but it was so tedious for everyone watching and playing against them that the rules were changed because it would kill basketball's popularity. You can call the teams they played highly recruited scrubs, but the game in it's current form sucked ***, and had to be fixed. There's no easy fix for brawl to make it not suck, so this is the way things are. People will play other games if they don't enjoy it.
You misunderstood me. I wasn't saying that camping makes for fun gameplay, or that Brawl is fun. It says right in my signature I think Brawl sucks. But if you go to Brawl tournaments you should expect people to play to win, even if it makes the game terribly boring. If the game is really too boring to play (which is my current opinion) then you can play another game, like Melee.
I'm not even saying you can't play Brawl competitively and b*tch about it at the same time. But you should b*tch about the game, not about players trying to win by whatever means possible in a game heavily biased towards defensive play.
Acceptable b*tching: "This game is ********. Why are there no comboes? I'm tired of these 7 minute matches."
Scrubby b*tching: "You only beat me because you're gay and camp all the time."

Shai Halud, you're missing the point completely. This is a group of people who were the best at melee, not because they were winning a lot of money, but because the game was fun. While it may look like whining to you, you have to realize these guys are simply saying the game isn't as fun as melee when you camp. Yeah it might be the best strategy because the only way to beat it is to do the same, but do you honestly want to play a tournament where every match is a 6 minute spamfest?
No,
having fun does not affect chances of winning. The vast majority of tournament Melee players, myself included, probably have fun playing. It's why we're playing Melee instead of other equally competitive games. But having fun or not has nothing to do with how good someone is.
I sympathize with your criticism of Brawl completely. I hate Brawl. What I don't sympathize with is derision of people like Overswarm, just because he's using "gay" strategies to win. If you accept the premise of competition, you should accept that people will and should play to win. Otherwise what's the difference between your Smash tournament and a random Smashfest with a bunch of scrubs?
Edit: I meant that having fun is not a causal basis for winning. This was clear from the context. PockyD, you're an @sshole.
