    Best? As in a match he does very well with not too much effort? Probably Falco, Jigglypuff or Ganondorf. I lean towards Falco.

    Very late response, but she will always be top 10 imo. She has her issues, but at the end of the day she has just the right tools to be able to win a major as a solo character.

    By the way, I didn't say Bayonetta isn't the best in the game, I was curious to why you thought so high of her, considering the majority doesn't think she is quite that good.

    Bayo, Diddy, Rosa, Sheik, then probably Sonic or Fox. The usual suspects. She isn't leagues ahead of other top tiers. I just think she is more or less allowed to do w/e she wants. and you always need to respect her even when you really shouldnt have too.

    I wouldn't have to rant about them if they wheren't constantly ignored.

    Thank you!! I got inspired by all the times you've stressed how Smashers need to refine their neutral over trying to find the next big combo.
    You seem to know loads of stuff about Ryu, so I am just going to drop a question right here:
    What do you do after a jab lock? Often I would find myself doing one, and not knowing what is the most optimal moves to do.
    Also yo real talk, this is unrelated to Smash but I see that you played the Power Rangers SNES fighting game. Lord Zedd is my man in that game, teleporting out of hitstun/blockstun is basically like Nash on steroids <3

    Like, I'm biologically young but I play old man fighting games a lot and I personally miss them a lot though SF5 is the closest we've come to feeling like an old SF game that I love again, it's so good. We need Sagat to come back with the Tiger Knee that can jump over crouchers again, <3 that mixup.
    I was gonna say Limit (mostly Side-B) is the equivalent of a good super in ST but I think people are tired of hearing me say ST in that thread. It really is though (you get it 2-3 times at most per stock, and it's incredibly strong and safe, and can immediately turn things around). Maybe that's why I enjoy Cloud.

    Hi Emblem Lord. I have a big problem fighting Mario with Ryu. I find that his fireballs are great for covering his approach and his grabs leads to high damage combos (specifically Utilt and Uair). What would you say is the best way to keep him out of grab range? And is four character lengths away still the optimal spacing in this MU?

    Almost any approach Mario tries is high reward even though ryu has all the tools to shut Mario down. But really the one that needs to be flawless is Ryu. He can do it though. Yes general mid range spacing is advisable. SH bair is solid against almost any kind of approach besides dash attack.

    But Mario will probably use that sparingly since it leads to nothing guaranteed and is unsafe. ftilt can beat aerials from him and mashed jabs or light tilts stuff grab attempts. I like SH bair since it will stuff alot of stuff when spaced well. and avoid random dash grab attempts cuz Ryu is in the air and only risking a dash in while his is landing will net the grab

    eh i was in there for brawl and melee. that was years ago but i ended up leaving. idk how it is now but back then there was alot of top player bias and **** sucking. i wasnt afraid to let top players know that skill did not directly correlate to knowledge. a few of them hated my guts. i digress. are you back there? if you are how is it now?

    Dude I'm so glad I labbed Marth landing Nair stuff. This is OP. He can do Nair Sour into Jump Up+B (F1-5 intangibility on air version) and hit with the good hitbox and kill off the side. Nair1 Sour > Fair works but Nair1 Tip > Fair is more reliable......Falchions and Roy are blessed with god Nairs

    haha its not OP, because Marth reachs the height of his SH slowly. its a nice tool to have in your back pocket. I feel its best with Roy and Lucina 2nd. Tho Marth is probably the safest to attempt a confirm with due to his sweetspot mechanics.

    You know what I mean LOL. It's OP as in it's hype and cool that this confirm exists =3. I think Roy's is the strongest if applied properly due to his Nair, but it's the hardest to justify because of the risk. So cool though...
    You really seem to know your stuff when it comes to ryu match ups. Could i get a more comprehensive guide on how to deal with normal samus, its a hard match for me. I really don't know what to do when they are on ledge/holding the corner.

    The Mewtwo (and Ryu) whining has made me finally realize that NinjaLink was right: this game's generous engine has made turned the playerbase into softies.

    In games like Marvel, you could lose a whole character for one mistake. But in smash 4 you can usually do stupid stuff and then only get a tap on the wrist in the form of a weak punish.

    So when characters like Mewtwo (and Ryu) kill you early for doing stupid ****, a lot of players just can't handle it and cry in their oatmeal about it. I know that Mewtwo (and Ryu) are better than a majority of the cast but it's totally fine in the grand scheme of things.
    No you see Nintendo already nuked Ryu. By putting him in Smash 4 with its playerbase, it was a safe way to seal his fate. Welcome to why I waver with this game competitively a lot. Trela's post inspired me briefly but then the thread went to the usual.

    Don't worry, when people get all the top tiers nerfed and Mario ends up being the best people will realize how ****ing vanilla this game is without really strong chars with clear choices of any kind and immediately regret destroying their own game.

    I see Corrin as solid all around with a decent projectile and some sick trap options at the ledge. Aerial pokes are safe. Grounded buttons are not but the conversion is there so thats good. It was a solid analysis and to the point. Can't really argue with it.

    Got a question: if input Tatsu was made stronger so it KO'd ~150% light, ~130% medium, and ~110% heavy, but Shoryuken KO'd at ~90% would it still keep Ryu's niche? Might just be that it's the early hit messing with Ryu.

    Ryu's fine; nothing wrong with his design. It's just some people complain, so just wondering what if there was a change, what would it be that would keep Ryu: "Ryu".

    Ryu could have worked his high roundhouse for a light Utilt. Would be a better anti-air, but it might cost him a special-cancel and a repeatable light Utilt. Might also overlap with heavy jab, though.

    design wise he does work the way i feel they intended for him to work. he has 0 to death stuff but no competent player gets hit by a fully charged FA anymore. the utilt lock is lame but again, generally if you get with that, then you messed up badly and now you pay the price.

    I feel like everyone button they chose to give him serves its purpose. usmash i wish was faster or safer. right now i just use it as my vertical finisher after a shieldbreak and only fully charged.

    These Pit players are making it verrryyyy hard to not respond. They've refuted nothing valid at all, they're acting like you called him bad even though the message I got was "No matter how good he is at this point, he has no extremes or interesting things so he's effectively not worth it." which is p. much true. He also can't mix up his aerial timing and they haven't refuted that at all.

    Also I think a more fair comparison for DA in regards to Pit is like, Cloud DA which is everything Pit's is but better. Fun fact is that Pit's DA is one of the only actual exceptional things about him (move is actually pretty excellent though again not the best or super explosive)

    I think she's pretty good still. Her normals are still intact. I think the only unnecessary nerf was the dive kick nerf. They already made witch twist super easy to SDI so what was even the point of nerfing the dive kick angle lol.

    Still though, she has a super good punish game because the damage output from her normals is still absurd and her mobility is still good.

    Screw the death combos, I just need a good walk speed, some good range on my normals, and a decent reward for landing pokes and I'm good lol.

    how does she kill people though. Edgeguarding i guess but on stage? I dont see it. she isnt a combo oriented char anymore. she is no longer representative of her source material which is why she was interesting to me.
    Someone just said MVC2 never took off in CCI. You know, that game that had a 12+ year long competitive life until MVC3 (IIRC).

    hahah. it was pretty hype to watch but i wouldnt say it had huge growth in terms of size after a couple of years. it had a pretty large super hardcore dedicated fanbase that kept the game going till MvC3 dropped. solid game with flaws like any other. but i will say balanced is nice but def overrated

    People are just afraid to say Pit is mediocre even though it's pretty blatantly true. Every other disjoint/spacing char has something explosive over Pit and also has a neutral that's either as good or even better. Pit players who think it's solely cause of underrep are in denial, it's important to look at why there's no rep in the first place.

    Like yeah I guess Pit is "Ryu", or at least the modern equivalents prior to SF5, where he has all this stuff but it's outshined. Mario isn't an all rounder but he def makes me think of ST/SF5 Ryu where as Mario he has all that a good char needs + the ability to run at you and be oppressive/strong.

    I was gonna say that. Pit is the actual Ryu of this game. He will teach you the game. when to press buttons. How to zone. What options you can use to get around zoning. How to play footsies and counter poke. His frame data is ok and his recovery is good. He is a good training wheels character

    Yeah for sure. Pit is the usual Ryu, Mario IMO represents Ryu when he's really strong (ST, SFA2, SF5)
    Amen to your posts about Ryu. I think a lot of Smash 4 players greatly undervalue his ground game. He has twice as many buttons on the ground as the cast and normally quality > quantity but all of his buttons are also good! I think there's a problematic obsession with aerials, more than likely based on prior Smash titles. As a former Ryu player your posts are a joy.

    Anyway, since Tatsu has I-frames, would it kind of work as an edgeguard tool by hugging the ledge? By that, I mean dropping to the ledge, Tatsu, and holding up to force Ryu to not grab the ledge. Major risk is there's no invincibility on Ryu. I feel like I've asked this before...

    Really wished Ryu had customs. Akuma or Ken's Tatsu would be like Luigi Cyclone on steroids. Ryu's EX Tatsu would also be wicked. Be a murder tornado... EX Tatsu right next to the ledge... Tuned right, it'd be like EX Cross Slash if you could use all the time and any time.

    I can't post in CCI due to personal creed but I will say that Ryu doesn't even need big combos. If Ryus ever buckled down and mastered neutral it'd be GG. He never loses a trade with relevant normals. Ever. In my experience anyways.

    Feels like Smashers tend to focus too much on the flash and that's not what Ryu is about here. Gotta work neutral like SF and Smash at the same time (can't chip with lights, have to respect millions of options out of block)

    ... I pressed... Link's on Anragon; French Falco/Ryu player who recently took 9th at MARS 2016. No footage of his recent plays that I know of, but I bet he could be a beast Ryu player or at least a Ryu/Falco instead of Falco/Ryu. Not familiar with Europe's scene, though. AC and Bravo would make for excellent Ryu players as well. Question is if they want to play Ryu.

    Don't you think melee and mvc2 are basically brothers? They both released around the same time 2001/2003, has a competitive scene that has lasted for longer than a decade, both exemplify a freedom-based engine that is loose as heck, etc...

    i see them as having similar metas. throwing out HUGE and VERY safe moves with crazy hitboxes in neutral then you convert into monstrous damage. you do NOTHING but safe very oppressive stuff that no low tier can hope to challenge and fish for damage and free pressure.
    hypothetical scenario:

    all landing lag is nerfed 1/3, Sakurai comes up to you and asks you for one more change:

    nerf dodge (roll, spotdodge, airdodge) invincibility (not faf) by 25% across the board
    nerf shield regen by 50% across the board

    which do you choose?
    Hello, Emblem Lord. I enjoyed your insightful threads and postings on Smash 4 Marth; I significantly improved my Marth thanks to them. Now I'm looking into Ryu and discovered you main him. What would be the best threads, posts, etc. to get up to speed with Ryu? I'm excited to play this character to his full extent! Note: I've never played SF, if that helps.

    Yeah. You win neutral and then you play it again over and over. Speaking of fun stuff, I think I wanna smack people who say Bayo has overall bad frame data. I think the proper term is "bad startup" at this point because her recovery time is very miniscule vs. the startup.
