I say it's the worst of the trilogy because it bases itself around key collecting and ONLY key collecting. The main gameplay mechanic is boring as ****, and honestly the worst part about the FIRST game was the end game key collecting(thankfully a lot of that could be done during the earlier parts of the game but if you didnt know you're supposed to be doing it you'd wind up having alot of annoying backtracking to do) Its tedious game play that degrades an otherwise amazing game.
Honestly, it does revolve around key-collecting, but I never even thought about it that way until you phrased it that way because it honestly feels more to me like you go around and sort of get the keys while getting items, just like any other game. The final hunt definitely is backtracking and key-collecting alone (unless you're gathering final expansions along the way, that is), but I don't really think of it that way.
Also the Beam ammo and Dark World do not produce more strategic game play. It just led to a lot of "Avoid attacks, spam normal blaster." Though honestly i blame that on the fact that the Dark Beam and Light Beam were just exact copies of the Ice Beam and Plasma Beam in the first game. The Ice Beam was terrible, it's slow rate of fire and projectile speed made it basically useless so they really didnt need to bring it back again =\ The Light Beam was almost good but because it wasnt the "last weapon" it wasnt nearly as powerful as its MP1 counterpart and with that drop in power it just becomes a slow firing weapon that you can for some reason run out of ammo for. I understand why they gave you ammo for the weapons, I really do, the light beam would be stupid broken in the dark world if you could use it as much as you wanted but that doesnt make it any less terrible of a mechanic.
I don't really know how else to respond to this other than to simply say that I disagree. The first time through the game I thought it was annoying as hell, the second time it felt different, and I felt limited ammo was a good choice. You say that all it does is make you spam Power Beam -- but what would be so different if there weren't Beam Ammo? Spam Dark/Light Beam instead? You
think before you use the Light or Dark Beam. You try to time your shots better to make sure you don't miss because missing wastes ammo.
Also, dont compare MM to Metroid Prime 2. Majora's Mask didnt just take OoT and make it darker, it made an entire world, filled it with interesting characters and stories and destroyed the stereotypical Zelda story trend. Metroid Prime 2 is Metroid Prime 1 with the lights off. Still, Metroid Prime 1 was fun so having more of it wasnt bad, but it never actually managed to surpass the original and even managed to be worse in some spots, hence the "Worst of the trilogy" point i keep making.
...Okay, I'm not sure why you took it that way, especially since my wording was actually
very lenient on the comparison. I said "I'd
almost compare it to Majora's Mask IN THAT..." and explained the similarities. And you can't deny, it has its similarities. No, it didn't create the same effect in contrast to the original, but there's a similarity there.
I never said "Prime 2 = Majora's Mask", which is what I think you thought I was trying to say -- and I wasn't.
Metroid Prime 2 isnt a bad game. It's just not as good as what came before it. Metroid Prime 3 is ALSO not as good as MP1 but it's definitely better than 2.
You keep talking like this is fact, but, plain and simple, I disagree. Prime 3 took Prime 1 and basically made it more linear, took out the isolation factor, and made Phazon go from "WARNING: INTENSE RADIATION" to "Sit in it to make bubbles and restore energy!"
Your sentiments on Prime 2 are pretty much what I'd apply to Prime 3: it's not a bad game, but it's not as good as what came before it.
Is the pool of water from the area where you enter Tallon IV, or is it in Phendrana Drifts?
The spot PR's talking about is deep in the Chozo Ruins. If you JUST got the Boost Ball, you won't be going there yet. You want to go to the Tallon Overworld where they're telling you about the "half-pipe formation" and use that, and you should find the Space Jump Boots. Then you'll want to go back to the Phendrana Drifts.
Of course, were it not the Trilogy edition, you could've sequence-broken and gotten the Space Jump Boots as the first item and just stayed in the Phendrana Drifts. =P
