speaking of multiple versions of the same game, people say you cant patch brawl, but look at what happened with SF2 ans GG2 which incidentally had similar first games, in that they were bad, werent heard about, and werent special. i see those multiple iterations as patches of a sort

All iterations of SF2 and GGX were heard about. They just didn't have a huge impact since it was known that they would be replaced by newer more balanced versions.

But all versions of GG are pretty **** balanced.

And yes, those were old school patches.

That's what a company does when it actually cares about the people that play their game at a high level i.e NOT Nintendo

in street fighter that wouldnt be the case because he knows that people play the character that they are best with, and he probably isnt used to matches as one sided as Sonic vs MK in street fighter. so in that case, he probably says pick the character that gives you the most chance at winning, which in SF would be the character that you are best with

its a different game with brawl, with the freeform mechanics that smash has, it opens up the availability for characters to have a much broader spectrum of matches

The first thing he said was "Mario has a nearly unwinnable matchup against MK (or so I hear), so I need to use a secondary to take care of MK". Mario from what I've seen isn't even that bad against Meta as far as I know, but don't quote me on this one. I've seen Boss gimp Metaknights before with the cape for one thing. There are quite a few characters that I know can fight Metaknight with at least a close to even footing. I'm convinced that ZSS is 50/50 with Meta now like I've said.

Also, there's probably quite a lot of things that people haven't even discovered to use against Metaknight tactics. I'm finding new things pretty often for my character at least. Like I just figured out a useful way to avoid his tornado...

I'm sure their character boards would love to hear about what works against him.

The reason people say there are very few neutrals to MK is because that's the most accurate reflection of reality, as far as anyone knows.

Fine, ban him and see if you don't lose playership. God, why are hardcore Smash fans so extreme about everything? Like little kids hyped up on sugar. No other fanbase, for fighting games or otherwise, is so quick to toss around bans and lay out such extremely intricate rules I'm sure the creators could never even dream of. If this is really what it takes to make Smash Bros. competitive, then I have to side with everyone who says Smash Bros. should never be played competitively.

Edit: And I'd like to apologize for the generalization, I know some of you are actually DEBATING whether or not to ban Meta and not just demanding it like upset children.

That's absurd, we're one of the more conservative communities when it comes to banning.

You want banning galore, check the Pokemon (though, Pokemon seperates their competitive scenes based on tiers and all they do is place characters in Uber tier, so it's not quite fair) and Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen communities. Heck, even the Japanese Super Turbo community.


Creators' intent is BS, just like original intent is law. It doesn't matter what they intended to do, it matters what they ACTUALLY DID. As for our counter-picking system, it's pretty standard for fighting games, and items off is just a competitive standard.

My fox analogy is simply talking about the PERCENTAGE of fox users in the tournament scene and how they are comparable to MK's popularity in Brawl today. It doesn't matter if tournament matches are boring, it matters if they're competitive or not. A lot of people don't watch Brawl finals because they're boring (yes without MK too)

Boring isn't the criteria people are bringing up.

Match-ups as stated in various boards may be incorrect, but match-ups exist, period. When's the last time you saw and equally skilled Ganondorf and Marth fighting result in a Ganondorf victory? Exactly.

He is beaten by other characters constantly. He isn't broken if he loses. Learn how to get inside the MK. That's where mindgames come into play. You can't just openly attack a MK and expect not to get punished for it.

I've beaten Akumas, does that mean he isn't broken?

It's not about whether a character can be beaten, it's about whether a character can reasonably be beaten, or in easier to understand terms, whether a character overcentralizes the metagame.

Actually, Snake was considered the best character in the game until June or something. We learned things about Snake from March-June until we realized that MK was better. Who's to say we won't figure out someone else that's more effective soon? It's all opinion biases.

Except that people were pointing out MK was better a while before. MK users at the time were spacing carelessly.

Even if we were to assume that Snake was better, tournament-wise, overall MK always dominated the metagame. I discussed his field-clearing aspect in the official tier list discussion well before he was top tier.

I mean SF4 still has combos and ****...so I don't know how it got Brawled.

All the basic 2-d fighter elements are there.
