Revival of Melee: Zhu Vids!

Copy and pasted from original thread.

P told me was playing really, really gay, and I would have to agree with him so Falco boards, help me out. I play to impress, not to frustrate so this is where you guys nitpick at my Falco and tell me what I'm doing wrong. If you guys could help specifically with approaches and getting the first hit in (as opposed to combos), please do so =D. If anyone has advice for Falco vs Sheik, that'd be appreciated. I struggle with that matchup as Falco =(

And enjoy! I haven't played this well in a while, Happy Feet 4?!

Whoever is moving all of the videos to this thread seriously needs to stop. It makes it impossible to get individual advice when everything is in a single thread. Nobody even looks at this thread in the first place.

StriCNYN3, you are really good, the only problem i see is sometimes you use double jump dair. Falco already has a really high initial jump you do not need to waste your double jump, it's dangerous seeing as falco has a short recovery. But either than that, I saw some juicy combos that took serious skills to pull off.

@puckgood: I can see alot of generic things u could do to improve. Short hop laser more, wd more.

But specifically I suppose here are a few things to try: You can do things besides roll out of shield, so use them. you shielded relatively well but then just rolled away or into him and got an f smash to the face. try shine oos or just jump, or wd, mix it up.

Now on the subject of rolling, replace about 70% of your rolls (or more, rolling sucks imo) with wavedashing or dashdancing. you practically moved everywhere by just dashing and then when u got in trouble u rolled backwards. Stop...really it helps.

USE TILTS. u tilt is almost as good as shine for those combos, and u never use it. f tilt is a good spacer/ edgeguarder, especially since the fox didnt sweetspot. SHL->dtilt is a great combo starter. learn to tilt. Actually, use all ur moves more. i saw down air, shine, and f smash... they are great in combo videos, but you need d smash (as good as f smash for killing, better for edgeguarding) and u smash i guess sometimes.

Aerial game: replace all those short hopped fairs with nairs. scratch that, replace ALL your forward airs with nairs. lol nair is a better move, forward air doesnt work unless u r really good. and if you wanna kill someone, bair him in the frickin face. it is such a good move.

This is long enough already, just mix everything up and use all your moves more. good job. oh and do more stuff out of shine, its basically the same as ur shield options, except its for offense not defense. good luck

There is a very very old Falco video I've been wanting to see for a while. I can give specifics, and half of the name of it.

It was one game on Final Destination. I think the date of it was around '04 or '05, I'm not sure. The title had "Falco ditto Dave vs." in it, I don't know his opponent. It had really cool techno music to it. Unfortunately, that's all I know. It was up before youtube was around, and it I can't seem to find it on youtube anyway.

If anyone could find this video, I'd be eternally grateful :)

http://www.youtube.com/user/IIILM#p/u/1/VIxeIkq52Zg pretty much any of the videos that have Jordan (Falco) vs Nick (Marth) I get ***** on (Im Jordan) I know my falco needs a lot of work, mostly i need to l-cancel, but also someone please how to take on marth better my friend nick gimps/edge guards me so hard and I really want to know how to not get railed..., also if you watch any other movies on this page feel free to add more critique, also remember I am: Jordan (Falco) any movies with that in the title are me, im also always red falco btw. In game tag always = JDOG

EDIT: In response to M0nkUn1t:

Hey, I usually lurk but I'm also learning Falco recently and from the limited amount of play I have versus other players I will say that for sure, you need to work on getting around the stage...and fast. What I did when I was still slowly running around and not l-canceling right and general other things that shaved milliseconds off of my possible reaction times WAS.....Just jump around the stage, do it as fast as you can, when you can land every short hop, throw in fast falls, hop on ledges, off ledges off stage, on stage..anything to get around the stage. When you can do that, keep adding things, until you can run around the stage and shffl attacks and shine out of them into a wave dash and then sprint again while shffl lasers too. Its tricky but just doing this will (in my humble opinion) step up your game by leaps and bounds.

@ J-Dog, some advice:

1) work on your tech, you missed alot of stage techs that could have allowed you to not get grabbed/hit so much... L-cancelling is definitely a must when you play falco as well so try to work on that when playing with friends or by yourself if you have time...

2) when you shine, try to get out of it as quickly as possible... it seems like you kno how to do this but you missed it quite often in that match... you can get out of it by jumping or wavedashing (which is also key to advanced falco play)

3) more lasers, falco's lasers add a great deal of pressure/spacing which make him a ridiculously good character... also try to be more fluid with your lasers, work on getting them at the right height that you want them to be at and moving laterally with them as well as from platform to stage and vice versa

4) less predictability, you forward smashed twice in the first 10 seconds and your opponent capitalized on this... you also have a bad habit of full hop down-airing which is really easy to read/punish (especially marth, note 0:14, 0:28, and 1:40)... so for that i say more mix-ups, try using his dair/bair and work on your short hop/fast fall

also, on predictability... your recovery is terrible... if/when you use the up-b with falco try to sweet spot or go in a direction your opponent will not predict/guess/read... it can be hard but try practicing and if you get hit, well then try practicing your DI lol my advice would be to play your friend and try recovering with the phantasm/side-b or just grabbing the ledge after your jump if you're close enough

keep workin at it tho man, this game's awesome and have fun :D

Hey guys, it has been a few years since I have been to a serious tournament.

I have some videos from 2008, which was the last year I had been to a really good tourney, I used to live in the MD/VA region. I was wondering if you guys could give some critique on these videos so that i could get back to my old falco and even better. Hopefully some of this will carry over into Project: M as well.

Just really sucks there aren't many tourney's in the area i'm at now.

I'm the Falco playing a friend of mine who was using IC's. My name back then was K.C. Cloud. I know i was playing around a lot in these matches, we both were. Though I won't lie that this was when i was at my best (was probably rapidly increasing because of the amount of tourneys i was attending) until I stopped playing the game for specific reasons.

your falco wasn't looking to bad man, just gotta get teching down a little more to speed up your game. and you mentioned project m, if you have it I'd definitely want to play you online, yes project m works online. I'm an up and coming falco and need someone to practice against.

1 - Never Stop Moving - you can give an illusion of moving faster then what you are by never standing still, which means you have to get your timing down.

2 - When nothing else work go back to the basics - There were some time when the IC's had over %120+ which you could have ended they're game with an simple down tilt, sometime you got to take a hit to give a hit.

3 - Get off that stage - You need to start freeing yourself from the ground in two ways. 1 - by dash jumping more, gives you another piece of illusion of speed, 2 - by edge guarding off-stage. You also sometime seem afraid to approach or risking an stock for an easy kill.

Your Falco is really good, you just need to practice the basic, to me it seems you skip them and went for advance techniques instead, know when, where, and how is the basic of the basics. Test each attack kill percentage yourself guides can only guide you. LOL
