I never ever thought that their vocals were like dream theatre, or muse, or queen. Dream Theater came up because of their guitar work.
Have you been listening to a different band?
Have you?

I'm not a fanboy, I like a lot of bands equally and they have been subject to most of my discussion because of their newly announced album and peoples interest in discussing them.
You really seem mad for some reason
Rody only seems falsetto in songs like wretch and turn soonest to the sea, other than that he screams a lot of his vocals and while you may want to compare vocals purely because of the high notes that he sings in (which he says he uses a lot of iron maiden as a guideline).
Plus, just a note, I haven't been singling out protest the hero as anything special, but you seem to be bent on making sure I am. Even if they do have similar vocals to power metal, there really isn't anything new they can pioneer into, so there is no reason to diminish my like of them just because of that.
It's not like Protest is unique in that aspect. There are a lot of bands (especially in heavy/noisy music) that have a completely unique sound.
I didn't in any way say that other bands haven't done this, I was just responding to the placement that was being discussed. I even made a point in my post to say that I wasn't trying to single PTH out.

I dunno why you're bringing up an old remark.

But fair enough, maybe I mistook your last post as saying the vocals weren't inspired by the bombastic stylings of the bands I mentioned, which they very clearly are even if they weren't inspired by those exact groups.

I'm not mad, this is just how I come across to everyone. Don't get me wrong, I love that this thread is so active again, I just wish it was active discussing a band I really like. :3

Well, on an unrelated note, I've fallen in love with Testament again. Just listened to Absence of Light and Practice What You Preach for the first time in a while, and now I remember why I used to love them so much. So intense. Them, Megadeth, and Dark Angel are definitely my definition of thrash metal.

Testament is good, but they always felt so... clean. you know, like how slipknot tries to be hardcore but their music is so clear that it makes it sound more like rock?
Megadetb is A+++ though.

Well, the guitar work is reminiscent of dragon force, IMO.
I like the vocals. They remind me of a rougher 80's metal band.

Searched Blind Guardian, found valhalla, listened to it, listened to other related links. I felt that the guitar work is a less keyboard filled in dragonforce, especially the riffs.
you can think whatever you want, but I can't change what I hear. I was simply stating what I heard, you don't have to think the same.

well, there's not really any use arguing or defending over it anymore. I suppose if you haven't listened to a lot of different metal BG could sound a little like Dragonforce, but I gotta say I really don't hear it.

Anywayyys, Wretched, your name doesn't happen to be from the band Wretched does it? If so, mad props. If not, check them out! They're pretty gnarly, although a lot of their songs sound the same. This is one of my favorite instrumental metal songs ever:

and here's a more typical sounding track, from their awesome new CD:

Actually, its a nickname that my friends have given me over time (their decision actually) combined with my odd like of the word, the appearance of it in a lot of metal lyrics, the PTH song wretch, and because I <3 Wretched (spot on).
why haven't I talked about them
I love their breakdowns, the cleanness of their songs (which is fixed by their wonderful vocals), and the lyrics.

I will be going to see Avenged Sevenfold, Unearth and As I lay dying in concert in October.

I can't wait.

The only thing that would make that gig more epic would be Lamb of God.

I'm also going to listen to EVERYTHING Wretched has now.....thank you!

I'm not too much for caring about image, but A7X? C'mon.
I don't like lamb of god, disturbed, slipknot, or any others like that.
I guess I don't like how softcore they see they can go before they consider themselves too hardcore for music

I saw Underoath and AILD with Between The Buried And Me. Mine's better.

But I usually don't have a problem with A7X. Their music can be fun, even if it's not what I define as serious metal. Plus, they now have Mike Portnoy as a permanent member, and that man is the Jesus Christ of drummers.

I'm just a guitar fan really, even if I dislike the singer in a band I'll still give them a chance as long as the guitar is good.

Unearth I like all round.

A7X are ok, the latest album was so so.(I don't like the vocals too much, same with As I lay dying)

Really you guys don't like Lamb of God?

I'll be seeing...

Iron Maiden
Slayer
Slash
Rob Zombie
Stone Sour
Devildriver
Dimmu Borgir
36 Crazyfists
Sevendust

All in the same show in February. So much hype. Looking forward to Dimmu Borgir, Devildriver (for the 3rd time) and Stone Sour the most. =D

Any of you guys listen to Septic Flesh, Rotting Christ, Job For A Cowboy or Circle Of Dead Children?

he's not confirmed to be their permanent drummer. he's still just touring with them.

Oh. Well, they'd better hope he decides to stay, because if he doesn't, I really don't think the band will last. The Rev wrote, like, all their stuff. And did all the cool backing vocals. Portnoy may be the only person who could effectively fill that spot right now. I mean, they could probably just milk all their current stuff to hell until they're old, but what's the fun in that?

Well, every album since Train of Thought has pretty much been the same thing. Though the title track to Octavarium is musical perfection.

Its.... really weird.
Not in a bad way.
Its like one big breakdown with screechy guitar work that doesnt fit the vocals.
