Hey guys. This is not mean to start up a ****storm, I'm just hoping for a few concise answers, this is purely informational as I am curious; I would appreciate leaving out biases.

I am guessing something along the lines of:

Mango
Hungrybox/M2K
Armada?

Thanks I appreciate it.

Mango is undisputedly the top.

Hungrybox beats everyone else and places next best, so he'd be second.

M2K/Armada is hard to decide. Armada beats M2K, but its been incredibly close every time, and they both lose to Hbox and Mango, so there's not much info to decide with.

M2K is more versatile than Armada is. Sorry to say M2K could win tournaments with like the top half of the tier list, Armada has one trick (no offense).

look up the results to a handful of recent national/international tournaments. anyone in the top 7 in more than one of those is probably a 'da bess' player

mango, hbox, m2k, armada are pretty much top 4 because there is a very short list of people who have beaten them that aren't them.

i guess that doesn't apply to ScorpaDorp tho

cping you to Mute at a MDZ tourney
hmmm
imo it's to the tune of:

Mang0
Hbox
Armada
M2K
PP
below there is just the really good players, imo there's far too many to make a list, and the sheer number of upper echelon makes it hard to gauge every players skill, let alone scale them amongst one another, mostly because the majority have not played each other/have not played the same people/have not had an "on day" at the same tournament

the top 5 are the players who simply are gonna go to every major tournament and not **** it up (obviously excluding mang0 lol), and in my mind that's how you become one of the top 5 players in the world

1. MaNg0
2. Hungrybox
3. ARmada
4. Mew2King
5. Scorpion Master

Then just leave a lot of other players as tied for 6th place because everyone listed (maybe plus others I forgot to mention) are so debatable for 6th place.

DaShizWiz
AXE
LuCKy
Jman
Zhu
HugS
Silent Spectre
Darkrain
Calle W
Dr Peepee

1: Mango (though he may go the Ken route soon)
2: Hungrybox
3: Armada
4/5: Mew2King/Amsah (I'd like to see if Amsah is consistent against NA)
6. Dr. PP
7. Jman

...and down from there is really debatable. I think Axe could be a top 10 player if he proves that he can place well at more internationals. Don't forget that there was a low number of Sheiks at Apex, missing Amsah, Tope, Drephen, and many others.

Dr.PP is consistent enough and I think he's the next player under the big five.

Jman is also consistent but always has upsets (Axe, Dr.PP, Amsah, Axe).

Armada is better than M2K at this point. 3-0 in sets is pretty solid, not to mention M2K hasn't come close to taking a set off Mango, but he does better vs Hungrybox.

Mango is still the top player, but if he "retires", Hungrybox will take the Melee throne.

this is dumb. dashizwiz DOESNT go to more than 1 tourney a year, so he's not that good. he is clearly not as good as dr.pp and some of the other people you listed below him. here's another list:

m2k in '07
hbox
amsah in NTSC
armada
dr. pp next year

.
.
.
mang0 the way he actually plays

Why don't we all just agree on the top 4 and then not give a **** after that?

I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that Mango and Hbox are easily 1 and 2 and that Armada and M2K are extremely close for 3rd/4th so just put them in whatever order you like.

After that it's all just stupid biased bull**** for the most part. All that matters is the consistent placing top 4 of tournaments.

This is all that really matters right now though imo, just wait for RoM3, DGDTJ, Pound 5, etc to decide whatever other fate.

Because some people are genuinely interested in it, such as myself.

Pretty much yea, after the top 4 it gets very hazy, but the discussion in this thread so far has been working out very well, no need to be so insolent about it. And yeah, waiting for the next big tournie will help too.

hmmm...i had a feeling we were due for one of these threads.

Honestly top 4 is easy to call everything after is a mystery (Amsah, PP, Axe, Jman i guess)

Mango
Hbox
Armada
m2k
Shiz would be top 5 if he played consistently.

Why do people keep saying IF?

IF a lot of things. IF M2K played purely Melee maybe he'd beat Armada, maybe Hbox, maybe even Mango.

You can't just put someone on a list based on hypothetical situations because it isn't concrete. Shiz lost to Wobbles and Axe, he got 9th. He got 9th at Genesis. Don't john about his losses either, just hope he does well in the future and DOES play more.

at the end of the day, i cant really disagree with that i was only throwing that possibility out there. Just giving my opinion on the matter, not saying that shiz would be definite top 5. He's just the one that sticks out in my mind. Especially since he goes on hiatus for months on end, and still manages to get top 10 at every national he attends. Thats pretty sick if ask me.

btw...i agree with your statement about m2k.

Top 4

MaNg0
H-Box
Armada/M2K: I stand by this, dispite the 3-0 set record. all of those sets went to the last game, and all but three of those games went down to the last stock. If you really watch they are VERY close in ability. Armada's better in the clutch moments which is why he wins (and which is why he's named first). they are basically even. I also agree with Iron Dragon's statment, even if it seems like he didn't mean it.

after the top 4 I have no idea. Asmah maybe?

no trolling, but this is really not something that can be said with more than a grain of salt. You see, the game is always changing, and mango isn't going to be the best forever. Frankly, there isnt any evidence to see he is the undisputed top of top players.

I definitely agree. That's why I said "is." He currently is the top player, and there's no real doubt. I hope that doesn't last for too much longer, simply for the sake of the metagame, but at the moment it's true.

It's definitely Mango, Hbox, M2K/Armada for top 4. From there it gets hazy.

PeePee, Shiz, Amsah, Silent Spectre, Darkrain, Jman, Axe all fight for that 5th spot. and lots more that I'm forgetting probably.

People don't give Amsah enough credit, he shouldn't be placed on the same level as DrPP and Jman, he's better than them. He may very well be better than M2k.

I'd put it as

Mango
Hungrybox
Armada/Amsah
Mew2king

and then after that I think it is Jman, Drpp, Wobbles and Zhu. A bunch of other people are probably also on this level, I think Axe, Shroomed, Lucien and a few others have a whole of potential, but I think the top 9 is kinda set.

We still have a ton of players that haven't played in American tournies yet either including Calle W, Javi, Twin, Dark, Ghost, Star, Mach Dash, Cambodian Young Links, many other Europeans (Ice, Baxon, etc) and there's bound to be more hidden talent elsewhere.

Granted, the chance of any of them being on the level of the top players isn't superb, but it wouldn't be the first time a foreigner surprises everyone.

Fortunately, we've been able to see what a lot of player can do and a lot of speculation in certain areas is clearing up. I think all that's really left of Canada is a few more of the WC players, but Sion is going to ROM3. There are still quite a few top level Europeans and a lot of people want to see how Amsah does again.

It's nice to keep the metagame and interest healthy. I think that because of this, Armada is one of the most important Smashers in recent history.

i think someone should try to compile a list of "people under the elite 4" and just throw them all in a large group. like try to get everyone from all around the nation (and other nations like for amsah) that is in the
"can very well compete at the top level, but does not have a concrete position" section

@ Merkuri: I actually name dropped Asmah; i haven't seen enough of him playing to make a determination. it may be a 3 way tie for 4th then?
