Hey Dojo, I agree with the payout to top 8. My tournament is paying out to top 5 because I feel the same way, but top 8 works too. It just depends on the region and hype IMO. But as of right now I'm actually advertising my tournament here in DFW at 4 Gamestops, 2 High schools, a college campus and at near by street intersections. You have no idea how many people are interested in coming to this tournament thus also promoting growth on top of the regular turnout. My tournament right now is expecting around 45 and it very well could increase, especially if people outside of DFW traveled to mine. Too bad no one posted their tournaments in the tournament thread so I could have rescheduled. If this turnout is solid I'll start a series here and advertise more and payout to the top 8 to create reward and promote competition.

Or if somebody would like to actually to help out and make a graphic one that'd be awesome.
I'd actually be glad to help with this. I have the time and tools. I'm just a PM and AIM away. Check out the SA social thread for some stuff I've done, and I'd also be happy to send stuff that isn't on the web.

Overall, this is exactly what Texas needs right now, Dojo. <3

Texas da bess.

The other issue with comparing it to LoL is the fact that they actually try to balance the game by balancing the champions, maps, items, and game mechanics. With Brawl that's not the case; they broken characters are left broken and the weak ones are left in the dust (or at least until some psychic picks them up).

There is a DFW tournament that has been in advertising for 3 months with that date on it.
When I last saw it was discouraging wireless control plus silly rules etc. I just checked again and the rules seem fine now. He needs to start really grabbing attention for it again. I'm sure I'll be there now.

I'll probably be holding one sometime in May/June.

Character bans work in LoL because it is 5v5 rts. So it works well, in fighters not so much.

Which is why it's merely a suggestion as a side event and will probably never be used for an actual event in any tournament.

I'm not trying to balance anything. All this is doing is promoting character diversity by having people step out of their norm and be forced to pick up new characters on a whim. It takes MK out of the game 99% of the time which is everybody's biggest complaint. Like I said it doesn't have to work the way it does in LoL. I'm sure we could find a way.

But if you don't want to the time to try it out simply don't host/play in the event. *shrugs*

You see how I set that up is that I set it up far enough away so that other TOs because that is how I learned how to set up tournaments while I was a member of SRK. Now granted, I am not one of their "blessed" TOs because I just so happen to piss off someone for the wrong reason, but besides the point, any tournament that I set up would probably be 2 or three months in advance in order to generate maximum amount of hype and discussion for the event.

Besides, when I only discouraged wireless control it was because brawl didn't come out at the time that the rules were written and no one really took the time to convince me to amend the rules to allow wireless for Brawl. Sure, one could have made the arguement that the Wii's native control scheme is wireless, but no one took the time to convince me, so I left it alone.

I see, it's not that it's a bad idea, but it's exactly how UTDZac said. With LoL there are more factors in it. And the fact that even OP heroes get nerfed or buffed changes the metagame a bit.

Also I'm in Florida... I wouldn't be able to attend! ; A; xDDDD

But good luck with everything, Dojo. ;D

Updated the first post to hold the calendar. If I'm missing anything just go ahead and post the link to it and I'll get it up.

Also if anybody wants to make some kind of actual calendar or something to make it look better, just let me know and send me your work.

Thanks for the support everyone.

I know that Brawl tournaments like to line up tournaments a month ahead of time, but if we are going to do a circuit, we may as well do this right and ask for sponsorship for a big championship at the end of it. I'm breaking it down into three steps.

Step 1: I would like to ask ALL TO's (Xyro, Slaps, Dapko, Denti, myself, ect.) to look into their crystal balls and start picking dates for their tournaments from May to the end of August. The point being is that if we know who takes what date, the better chances that we don't trounce on future tournaments as they pop up.

Step 2: Since I already did most of the homework, I will get together the business plan that we will need for the Championships that will be held in September. It will be submitted for approval soon.

Step 3: Line up sponsors so that the venue can be secured. The venue that I have in mind will cost $1000+ to rent out for 3 days, so every dime that will come in from the sponsors will need to pay for the venue first and foremost.

Have a $2 dollar Circuit fee at every tournament. Put all that money together at the end of x months, and have a massive tournament. If you have 30 man tournaments every week, you could generate $120 a month. You can then use the circuit fees to pay for a larger venue, and payouts further down the line. Rather than lumping up the circuit money into the hands of 1st/2nd/3rd, let the normal tournament winnings take care of that. ;d

Still not enough for what I have in mind without some sponsorship. I plan on renting out the Fort Worth Convention Center, which costs roughly $1200 and up for a three day period depending on the room.

Let me put it to you this way, if there is a 30 man tournament every week between May and the end of August, a period of 17 weeks, collecting $2 per entry will generate $1020. True, I could shorten the days that the final event would be from 3 to 2, but the extra day could be used to run any pools that is needed.

Sanji, all the major tx TOs(Houston/Austin/San Antonio/Dallas/Kingville/San Angelo) are creating a Tx circuit as we speak. It would be cool if u joined us. Im not saying you cant handle one on your own but if u combine with us it will save you money/time/effort and it still gets your name/series out in the publics view.

I thought that is what I was trying to do, Xyro. I'm just offering a place to do the Championship round in September without anyone working too hard outside their norm.

The way we are setting it up is we start in may and end in october or november. Championships would most likely be held in austin since its the "center" of tx aka the easiest place to get to from all major cities.

This sounds like a great idea. If this is implemented before my tourney, lemme know and I'll tack on an extra $2 fee or something.
