haha, thanks. what sucks is, the people i will be playing on a weekly basis are cactuar, scar, and pakman.

i already hate CF thanks to scar, and cactuar will give me the gay training with everyone else. pakmans a low tier master so hopefully i can get used to all the frustration early and overcome it, lol
haha scar has improved alot 2 so ur prob gonna hate it even more lol.

good ****.

U kno what I realized after playing taj tho. I only kno the m2 matchups one way lol. How the hell do you fight m2 lol.

I got Kels' Mewtwo down to one stock at the last tourney, not bad considering he is probably the best MW Melee player and I can't L-cancel or wavedash worth crap still.

I have the same problem, I have way too many close games with people who are worse than me when they use M2. And I also suck at M2 dittos.:(
My god, so it isn't just me? I lost to SleepyK's Mewtwo just yesterday, and his Mewtwo SUCKS though he's still way better than me in every other aspect of the game rotfl

But I generally suck at Mewtwo dittos. seriously, i don't know what the problem is. I know mewtwo inside and out. How do i loose to my own best character besides Marth??

So I've come a long way with Mewtwo now and I am finally comfortable with Mewtwo and get the general style of how to play him.

There is one thing I can't seem to do flawlessly/master, that is to DJC to SCs with L_Cancel of course. This is something I find in Melee kinda hard? Why this?

I would really appreciate the help guys with any tips you have for me other than practicing; I did this today again and couldn't get it down yet.

-Mewtwo is awesome

Jump with X or Y, then DJ with Ctrl Stick, then Fair with C-stick, then L, R, or Z cancel, this way you split up the movement evenly amongst all your fingers.

wow why didn't I think of that!!! Thanks! I'll try that right now; makes a lot of sense splitting out movement amongst all fingers possible. Thanks again.

So I was playing Melee and going even with a Sheik, a Falcon, and a Marth.. all of whom are better then me. (I was still losing, just getting them down to 1 stock or 2 stocks but high %)

I still lack a lot of tech skill and knowledge.... so what are some basic things I can do against Marth? I know Sheik/Falco I can uthrow > SH SC LC at lower %'s and I want to setup for gimps/KO's with bthrow, and I know how to avoid them and such... but Marth? What do I do?

Also, I seem to do 20x better in doubles then singles? Yet I can do singles just fine with Jigglypuff. :( So should I train my Mewtwo more or only play doubles with him? (I'm torn between it because I love Jiggly AND Mewtwo... and want to be known for having a good Mewtwo, but.... I just can't seem to perform as well as I do in doubles.... so this is more or less a community choice for me since I can't decide.

Singles and double are completely different, if you'd like to play a certain char for singles and another for double that's extremely common, because your playstyle in singles might not be the best for doubles i.e. too aggressive when your partner plays aggressive as well.

Well, imo, it all breaks down to a battle of spacing, because comboing is really out of the picture with his great air game.

D-tilt, u-tilt, u-air, bair are your friends in this match up.

Basically if you mange to get a throw or d-tilt setup just hit him once with u-air or u-tilt and get out of there. Because you can try to followup but take a fair instead, or run away after and take defense till the chance arises for you to 1-2 combo him again

Baby shadowballs would be good to take advantage that he lack projectiles, but his tilts will still eat through them.

Nair wouldn't be to great because of its suckish priority and that marth will just make you eat a fair

Whenever I play this i feel like i have to try like 150% to be even.

Well that's it from me, there might be other ways, maybe better ways, but that's how i handle m2 vs marth

What's up, SuSa, good times playing all those melee doubles matches at World 1-3.

Just curious, how good is Mewtwo as a doubles partner, in terms of theory? Which characters would be optimal doubles partners for him? Would he be better suited to being an aggressor or a stock tank?

Mewtwo is a stock holder. You generally need someone to play a wrecking ball character for Mewtwo to be effective. (Fox, Falco, Sheik, Falcon) Mewtwo isn't the best teammate just because he doesn't quite hold his own very well, but he can be very difficult to catch.

You generally just keep moving around, avoiding as much damage as you can while getting your partner quick set ups for them to do their **** combos since all of those characters can combo pretty well from Mewtwo's set ups like Neutral air, down throw, down tilt > forward airs, etc.

Then you can also get good off stage gimps, and Mewtwo is good at saving people with his reverse shadow ball, confusion (gives jumps back), neutral air, and forward airs since they're fast fallers.

I finally made it out of pools with my Mewtwo at the last tourney I went to. And even won in my first bracket!

My Mewtwo's almost back up to its old abilities, I feel. I can almost L-cancel correctly, and wavedash spacing is beginning to correct itself. I'm devoting the rest of my smash time this summer to perfecting my Mewtwo.

Taj, how much do you use the moonwalk? I'm planning on teaching myself how to do it this weekend, but I figured I'd ask you.

When Falco is being a support player, he can really control the stage with lasers.

So my question is how can M2 do the same without silly mishaps of crossfire ( i.e."oops that SB wasn't meant for you.")

That basically just stated exactly how I used Mewtwo in teams. (my partner is usually a Falcon)

Wow... go good luck on my part? Don't need to change how I play at all. lol

Mewtwo isn't Falco. Mewtwo doesn't really control the stage, he can have a presence on the stage when the opportunities are there, but most of the time you're waiting for it instead of controlling it like Falco.

You treat it like Samus' Charge Beam instead of Falco's lasers and you just use good decision making and awareness to avoid hitting your partner.

Xyless: Wavedash to moonwalk gives you better distance with Mewtwo.

So I'm kind of getting back into Melee again, and I am starting to get my M2 into decent form. I may have one or two questions or ten, I dunno. =\ I never took this game super competitively, so bare with me if you can.

First, is FD easily the best stage for M2? Obviously it varies on who you are playing, but overall which is his best?

Second, what is the best method to Tech Chase? I've seen Dthrow tech chase a good amount of times, but is there anything else?

FD and Stadium are the best overall stages for M2 because it has just the right balance up throw KO and survivability. Against floaties, you may want platforms a little more, against fast fallers you may want FD a little more.

Umm... tech chasing is tech chasing regardless of how it happens. You've seen down throw tech chase a lot because it is simply the most effective throw to get people to... tech. Mewtwo doesn't really have much else if you're wondering. Confusion can do it sometimes (More effective on fast fallers) but it doesn't genuinely work, and most of M2's attacks pop people up high or onto platforms.

If I play against someone that's never seen Mewtwo in action (surprisingly a lot of people), I always find it fun to CP them to Battlefield for the sake of getting the hilarious Confusion pull-through kill.

Speaking of which, now that I think about it, are there any other legal stages that do the pull through besides BF? I've taught myself (again) to stop doing that when recovering on non-BF stages, as it always screws me over by pulling the enemy onto the edge, after which I pretty much edgeguard myself.

LOL yeah that's great to see the first time reaction. It's always "WTF?!?!?!?"

Glad you're getting out of that habit.

As for stages...

I've heard that it works on Pokemon Stadium, though I've never been able to do it.

*HMMM* for counterpicks it works on both sides of Corneria, though the placement is tricky. I've pulled someone through the front end just as the guns were firing and those got the kill, but that was a shot in the dark kinda thing, and most of the time the guns actually SAVE them. The back end of the stage is safer, and pretty effectively traps most characters under it.

*Thinks* I don't know if there are any more.

The front of the ship in Rainbow Cruise too, though that'd go under the "usless" heading.

*EDIT* Oh yeah, Jungle Japes too, though it's tricky to time it so that you won't get hit by a Klap Trap...

Confusion can pull the enemy thru any surface thats not too thick. You just need to be able to pull them through it.

This works on all platforms.

You can do it on lots of Cp stages. for example pokefloats. many of the thinner poke parts you can pull them through.

From my exp it works better in earlier versions but the left side of stadium u can pull them through as well.

another good stage is jungle japes but u have to be careful not to fall in and die.

u can also do it on stages where u can jump up through the floor but its less effective because well, u can just jump back up through the floor. But as a surprise Ive killed some ppl on mute city with it.

for the most part the rest of the neutrals are too thick and thats why it pulls them too the ledge.

just try it on random things that look thing and everynow and then get a surprise off cuz most ppl dont know it works on anything other than battlefield.

hope that helps

Mewtwo has bad priority in front of and below him. I've had this idea in the back of my mind percolating and I can't seem to shake it; so I figured I'd ask here: Is there any usefulness in Mewtwo's SH/FJ reverse shadowball charge (RSBC) as an approach? I realize that it doesn't have much range, but as long as you aren't up against a Marth this shouldn't be a problem. It seems like the RSBC has the priority to make it viable. It's also flexible because you can -

1. Instantly shield so you aren't vulnerable once you land.
2. You can throw the shadow ball if they DI the hits in front of you.
3. If you FJ it, you can just use it to turn around, cancel it, and then bair. Makes for a good mindgame. You could also waveland before you land if you judge such an action to be more prudent.

Against fast fallers you can rack up some damage on them. Also it has decent priority so running into it or jumping on it is not uncommon for the enemy to do.

u dont really shield instantly tho cuz u first put away the shadowball.

Its a viable move that can be comboed out of.

still wouldnt be my main approach tho.

Yeah...

A good mindgame, but you'll get punished HARD if you abuse it (IE approach with it all the time lol...)
Yea. But I do feel like it's something that's kind of overlooked in general. It's a great way to diversify your approaches. After all, I like to be aggressive. Dash attack sucks; and wavetilting + run-up shield just don't cut it for me. I'm just the type who likes to be creative and to then turn that creativity into something practical.

It's a good attitude to have with Mewtwo, but he's so limited that you can only do so much.

Which is why I also main Marth.

But on another note.

Which do you guys think is better, a wave-grab or a JC-grab.

I'm mastering the latter, but in learning it it's ****ing up my game a little, but I can wave-grab more consistantly.

So, in your opinion, which is better?

PS understand that I realize that both have their uses lol...

I'm assuming by wavegrab you mean wavedash > grab. Yep. I only wavegrab OoS to punish things like Marth's fsmash and Link's up-b. If I'm DD baiting, though, I'll generally do things like dash in, wavedash back, then dash dance > JC grab. I just love the precision you can get with JC'ed grabs.

Yeah... I've just gotta get the timing down. It's not hard to do right away, it's just hard to time for me at the moment. JC grabbing is much more precise. (I'll have it down soon.)

Now on to the disable lol...

Anywhooo, CC dtilt is pretty standard. We can probably agree on this. But sometimes a dtilt is not the best option.

Example: A Marth around 100% on Stadium. He spaces fairs so you're having trouble shield-grabbing/grabbing him at all. So rather than CC dtilt, which doesn't really set up for anything worthwhile (dtilt fair is a hard combo to pull off), why not just CC disable. You get the damage from the disable, and, assuming they aren't crazy mashers, you should get a grab, pummel damage, and probably an uthrow KO.

Discuss ...
