cant dedede skid-cancel his grabs for a larger frame advantage?

and even if the cg is percent dependent, staying to the left of me would be begging to be pseudo-sharked by being above me on the slope

iunno, maybe we'll find something like pika's fthrow cg true comboing into usmash at kill percents or something stupid like that, so you're screwed whether i grab you in either direction
or d3 can just dthrow-dtilt or fthrow at the top of the pipe for free kills
or yoshi has a walking grab release cg that works on every character as long as hes looking up a slope while hes doing it
i have no objective proof, but i just see this stage scream 'potential for abuse' every time i look at that walkoff

and if falco/pit breaking mario bros in theory is enough to stop grim from arguing its legality, perhaps d3/pika/yoshi can do the same for yi:m?

What matters is that Dedede has to run up the slope in order to get high enough for the grab hitbox to connect. If he skid cancels, he doesn't get enough distance.

Yoshi is definitely worth looking into though.

100% (full stock) combos are not broken, they are simply a rarity in brawl and our norm of roughly 15-20 reads to remove a stock instead of a single read is what makes players feel its broken.

In MvC2/3, Marvel super heros, brawl minus, match-ups with ice climbers, TvC:CGoH, and various other fighting games there exist combos which take out your entire life in 1 go, in those same games you simply get better at blocking. I don't see why we can't simply say "get better" when people say walk-offs are broken because all I see is complaining at the strength of something and no attempts to be stronger.

It would be a good thing IMO if we discovered that Yoshi of all characters gets mega buffed in this stage.

Lol, I do remember discussion blowing up on Yoshi about this. I know he can CG some characters, but I believe the slope causes them to land on the ground quicker, which causes them to react faster. I could be wrong though since it's been a while since I tested it.

I think throw combos to death off the side would be more troublesome than CGs that barely work up the slope.

Jungle Japes is a really good counter pick stage since it doesn't have any random elements. Saying that a character is too strong on this stage is a bad argument since the same thing can be said about Brinstar and Rainbow Cruise. The Klap Trap may be strong, but it is not random and can be avoided. The threat of getting killed by a Klap Trap is no different that the threat that comes from getting killed by Frigate Orpheon When it flips over. Both of them can be avoided.

I was about to bring "character being too good on certain stage is not a good reason to ban it", along with the "just use your stageban" comment about YI:M...

Then I saw jebus' post....

O wow.

I was about to post about being annoyed I can't argue about walkoffs without getting told my opinons mean nothing on the subject, maining Dedede and all.

Then I saw Jebus talking about legalizing a stage, and not banning one.

My monocle popped out in a very comical manner.

Not so much that Jebus likes banning stuff as much as that he has terrible reasons for doing so.

Ah, well, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. :awesome:

So I'm going to a tournament hosted by a store tomorrow, rather than going to CoT5

They modeled their ruleset around a very old version of the BBR's ruleset

This is the legal stagelist:

Neutral

* Battlefield
* Final Destination
* Smashville
* Yoshi's Island
* Halberd
* Lylat Cruise
* Pokémon Stadium (Melee)

Counter-pick

* Brinstar (Melee)
* Delfino Plaza
* Frigate Orpheon
* Jungle Japes (Melee)
* PictoChat
* Pirate Ship
* Pokémon Stadium 2
* Rainbow Cruise (Melee)
* Castle Siege
* Distant Planet
* Green Greens (Melee)
* Luigi's Mansion
* Norfair
* Yoshi's Island (Melee)

I am so going to have a field day with this. :awesome:

No LGL, but there is a generalized stalling rule, so any planking's probably going to fall under that.

* Stalling is banned. (Stalling is defined as any action that deliberately avoids all conflict as to make the game unplayable. Running from an opponent to get to a better position is not considered stalling, but using chain grabs infinitely against a wall (excessively beyond 300%) or using Sonic's Neutral B repeatedly underneath the stage is.)

lol HA stall

Grim, I honestly just stumbled across this tourney at random while I was browsing various VG stores and stuff

The odds of any competitive player outside of me knowing about it are honestly nil

And even if some other people actually know about it, CoT5 is one state over, so yea

Yeah, $40 store credit

Stupid 70-20-10 pot split...

I should go to those more often, they're full of randoms, and I can just pray from the bottom of my heart that Anti doesn't show up next time... I can score a sweet and easy $100+ if he doesn't show.

Also the legal stagelist was changed to
Final Destination
Battlefield
Smashville
Yoshi's Island(Brawl)

lmao

We didn't take the matches too seriously, because we were playing on really laggy TVs

We've played before on non-laggy TVs, though, and I can only generally get one stock off him and tack on some good damage for the second...
