One other use for Dtilt I see is near the ledge. It does a wonderful job of hitting the area an opponent is in if they're holding onto the ledge, especially because Squirtle basically rotates forward an entire Squirtle length to attack, then returns back to his original position. As far as I remember it also causes stage spikes on Pokémon Stadium 1 pretty frequently.

Squirtle is good for racking up damage and beating the **** out of people. Ivysaur and Charizard are effective when it comes to KOs

So I saw Reflex do an utilt lock (to 60%) on a Falco in a video. Has me believing Squirtle had a solid advantage on falco and probably other fast fallers it should work on ;o. Who does it work on? Reflex was following Falco's DI so I'm pretty sure Falco didn't fail to DI

I don't think he was smash DI'ing out of it, since I've tried it on Falcos and they've gotten out earlier than in the video.

As far as I can tell, it works on all three space animals and some bigger characters, like DK, Bowser, and Snake. Works even better on Fox/Wolf than it does on Falco, but proper Smash DI allows them to get out more quickly...although at that point you should be able to tack on at least two U-Airs anyway.

I like the Utilt lock specifically since it gets my opponent in a bad position while doing damage all the same. Characters which are good for this are heavy characters and space animals, so:

Fox : Wolf : Falco : Snake : Bowser : DK : Ganondorf : Link

Though each character has better DI than the others, like Falco (Wario can easily escape the Utilt lock).

Someone needs to make a thread on which characters work effectivly to Utilt lock on. Couldn't this work n fast characters like Captain Falcon, Diddy Kong, and Pikachu as well?

Some other characters I know this works on are captain falcon, rob, lucas. But the big thing about the U-tilt lock is the fact that you can always grab them once they escape unless they are at very very high %'s. So U-tilt lock knowledge is a necesity to any good squirtle player so the idea of a "Who gets ***** by U-tilt lock" thread should deff be made.

random non-u-tilt related question, but

is there some kind of mechanic or am i doing this wrong:
(note: I don't know exact PT terminology for this, but I'll try to describe them lol)

So, I'm trying to do a shell shift > crawldash (dash pivot > crouch + reverse crawl)

It looks like if I'm going left>right>left I can do a freaky reverse slide with the crawl, but if I'm going right>left>right, it barely moves at all.

what's wrong with my squartle D:

I'm guessing it's the same principle as the insta-hydroplane. For some reason, it's way easier to do in one direction than the other.

like can Snake's Ftilt just be above Squirtles head and miss? ( when he is crouching)

Its easy to crouch, and Squirtle's is very low.

Snake's Ftilt I think will hit Squirtle since the disjoint on Snake's attacks are just stupid.

However, certain Ftilts, if they are angled upward like some of the cast can do, probably won't hit Squirtle when he's crawling. Other characters that don't have a controllable Ftilt (ex. Peach) will generally hit Squirtle since most of the non-controllable ones hit in front of them like a wall.

You can crouch against Ganondorf and avoid a lot of his moves. I know that his dtilt, uptilt, upsmash, dash attack, fsmash (angled down), and sideb will hit Squirtle, but afaik his other moves don't.

I think we should make a list of what things miss Squirtle when crouching.

Also the things the utilt can do.

And also you do get a forced stand up when you jab them on the ground, right?

Tested, Jab once makes them force stand.

better start chargin those UP smashes.:p

Actually, jab lock forces it. One jab is not enough.

Down B? Charizard and Ivysaur have better anti-planking tools as far as I'm aware. Moreso Charizard. And if they're content to stall on the ledge you shouldn't have too much problem getting a nice safe distance away and then switching.
Yeah, but someone like MK will punish you by getting in your face before you're done switching.

What about a jumping, down-angled Water Gun?

I can't see Water gun doing much good. Fun though.
Well, the thing is, it could force them away so that they have to Up-B or something, which may be enough to do something with an aerial afterwards.

Going around them and using Squirtle's Up-B is ballsy, but theoretically would be effective.

Eh I'm thinking of MK. So 5 jumps and all. Who else planks exceptionally well? This could be used on some people without bajillions of jumps I spose.

Problem lies in going around them. Trading a possible gimp for the meager damage Surf does? No thanks. :/

I don't know, but I was thinking about MK, too. The reason it would be alright is because his horizontal aerial mobility is bad, so he goes a larger distance than most characters.

You think Water Gun would push him far enough away that he couldn't make it back with his jumps and would be forced to Up B?

No, I think that the push will be enough for you to fall on him with an aerial or something before he uses another jump to grab the ledge again.

But he doesn't just jump up and down doing nothing while planking. Will you be able to get past the rapid Up Air spam?

If you push him away, then he won't be directly underneath you without purposely waiting first. In that event, you can grab the edge and attempt to hit him with your invincibility frames.

Eh it's far too maybe for my liking. MK has far too many ways around it. I'd say Squirtle is not helpless but is a character who has no real solid answer to smart planking.

are you sure that water gun can hit someone under the stage?

though it works pretty well for gw's using ledge drop -> jump -> nair since the attack will get lagged up.
