Umm if its the same percent, then the smaller moves would degenerate faster 0.o
All attacks degenerate at the same rate unless they don't degenerate at all. An attack that causes more damage just suffers more loss than a weaker move. 15% off a move that does 19 damage has a more noticeable effect than on a move that causes 6 damage.

Also, fast pummels don't refresh your moves. You have to do them slowly or else the whole string of pummels will just count as one hit.

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
All moves degenerate at the same pace, but not everyone uses them at the same pace. People use smashes as punishers and to rack up damage (sadly) on the ground, and then by kill percents your smashes are dead.
I fall in the category of smashs racking up damage T.T. I mostly Fsmash tip like a beast. Probably even it's stale lolz. *needs some teaching, yes?*

btw when's a real good time to Dsmash? for me it's hard to memorize the tip 0.0

Throw that P***y at me? B***h I think Im Babe Ruth
would u say down smash is the most usable of Marths smashes? Because it seems much more reliable then any of his other early kills for me except for n-air of course but thats hella hard to land but Dsmash seems to space itself with shield push which is a lot easier. good guide by the way I used to lose a lot of matches from spamming DS and Fsmash at high damage
Lol To answer his question yes d smash is one of his most reliable kill moves

Thank you Villi that's what I thought. I will add that into the original post. You're going to BIO I assume?

Edit: Actually I think it's better left out as it's just technical information that gets away from the main point of the lesson, but I reworded the OP so it makes technical sense.

I don't know Kadaj I played like a loooot of friendlies/mm's with DSF yesterday and...

Against his Wario/MK he spaces way too good for something with that dumb range to hit. I'd basically have to get really lucky when I get close to him since the punishment is huge if you miss.

Against his DDD/Snake with his DI it doesn't kill for a very very long time.

Yes, do not use f-smash very much at all.

d-smash is used when they land right in front you with lag which isn't very often.

Basically do whatever move seems appropriate at the time but don't look for the move.

There are "conditioning" kill tricks that I will talk about later but that's not the point of the lesson/you have to know other stuff first.

Your question is confusing. You are simultaneously asking for a when and where answer. Do you want to know when to use Dsmash? If so then just use it whenever your opponent is close enuff to get hit with an fsmash (in other words, just use a dsmash to punish something u usually punish with fsmash).

What exactly is the difference between Spacing and Zoning?
Spacing - A set, safe distance to safely use your attacks, and will tip doing maximum damage.

Zoning - Now my definition for this is one of two, so I may need to be corrected, but, effectively keeping you opponent out (with attacks such as Ftilt) and controling the stage.

Sorry I'm late everyone! I will make it up to you guys in the next week :D (Junk + DSF team vids?! What the-)

Edit: My hate on Brawl for this tournament was pretty low. Meta Knight is still really dumb. Tripping ftl is pretty annoying.

yes indeed at high percents u should pretty much limit ur attacks to Fair, dancing blade, and Dtilt and going for juggles traps is always good because they cant really kill u if their above you and ur sword is in the way. Also when ur at higher percents opponents tend to not shield as much which means u shouldnt go for as many grabs

here's some advice for tournament play with marf:

"If you don't go in ready to kick some ***, you will probably lose."

As for the whole "surviving longer" thing: I picked this up from my friend Lee. Against characters like diddy, pit, etc, who have multi hit kill moves and will 99% of the time try to kill horizontal, i like to jump around more at higher percentages. Reason being is that it's much easier to DI a horizontal kill move, or DI out of one, when you are already in the air.

I like these; they're obvious things that many people aren't conscious or aware of (like me =D). Definitely helps though.

I'm gonna be pissed if the next lesson is anything along the lines of "don't get hit" though.
Jus' sayin'.

Actually against Pit I'd rather not be in an easy spot to get hit by b-air cause he isn't going to hit you with any smash if you're spacing.

But against certain characters like Diddy I would say that's a great tactic.

so if you are fighting someone like squirtle or ness, who have pretty beefed up throws, what would you do instead of shield? I know squirtle can kill you at less than 150% in most places with his D throw, along with Ness with his B throw. would you throw in some retreating fairs? I am more curious about a quick character like squirtle.

@ Nibbbity:

GRAB THEM BEFORE THEY GRAB YOU.

Dtilt works great against Ness as well, who relies on the dash grab. Dtilt works against Squirtle too.

Actually, on further thought, dtilt works against just about everyone who isn't top tier.

I went as well, too good.
One of my friends went at like 8:30 or so and got rejected. The people said they ran out of mix haha. He still thinks it's because he's Mexican. :p

Back on topic, nice 2nd lesson. Good stuff to remember. Next week looks pretty promising as well.
