Nintendo has answered your call with Soul Silver dude.
Just get that and be happy for about 300+ hours.

Soul Silver is going to be awesome. I personally think heart gold is a stupid name (But I like Lugia better anyway so w/e).

4th gen rocks.

The physical/special split alone makes 4th gen simply amazing. I still never understood how energy-based moves like Shadow Ball used to be physical attacks.

The battle system with phys/spec split was great, Sinnoh was a really good region, and the story line was OK.

However, I am not a fan of having tons of legendary Pokemon in one game, and I only liked a handful of Pokemon. I liked Piplup until it evolved, but I have to say Chimchar is one of my favourite starters in the fact all it's evolutions were cool. Yellow was fun even though I played Red and Blue, but I couldn't be bothered to play through Platinum, due to the fact the only good Pokemon are only found later on in the game, and it didn't bring as much new things as Yellow did all those years ago.

Any generation past the first one sucked! The game began to get too big, no longer requiring the already difficult 100% completion by gathering all 151 pokemon, but the show and game itself began to lose its brilliance. At this very moment I am watching every single episode of the first season of pokemon and remembering why I love it so much. All the newer generations are too hardcore and have lost that companionship feeling only the first generation had. The pokemon are also getting increasingly uglier as the developpers run out of ideas.

I do not wish to sound like I am bashing on 4th gen and neglecting everything you said. I just wish to express my opinion on what happened to the show/games I grew to love.

You grew older.

Hmph. Yup.

Game targeted at kids, really. You can still enjoy it, but I guess it won't be the same as when you first touched your first Pokemon game.

But at least it's not as bad as the cartoons shown today compared to the ones back in the 1990's. (not that I watched cartoons all that much really, I got into all that murder investigation stuff after a while)

3rd gen doesn't deserve the hate it gets tbh.

I would argue my case about why, but I don't feel like it.

I just don't like how complex and non animal-like a lot of the Pokemon got in generations 3 and 4 became, but mostly 4. I only ever use generation 1 and 2 Pokemon in the new games because many of the new ones are just ridiculous... especially the names.

But the cover Pokemon, Dialga and Palkia... honest to god... Dragonite was cool. Names like Dialga and Palkia don't make any sense at all and they don't look like anything that a child would imagine. The original 150 had clever (but reasonable) names and were mostly based off of animals that had interesting perks, which is what made them awesome.

Well actually, I enjoyed Pokémon Colosseum a lot, like as much as 1st gen.
I was considering not bothering with Pokémon much after R/S, but then Colosseum just pwned my GC and brought back my love for the series.

Also, agreed with Nysyarc except I think Dialga is pretty awesome.

The names make sense to Japanese children. The only reason why names seemed clever then was because we were kids....now that we are older, the new names don't seem quite as clever cause we didn't grow up with them.

Also, how the heck is Krabby or Onix clever?

I feel bad for kids of this generation, cause the stuff they will nostalgia to later is Fairly Odd Parents and My Life Is Average As A Teenage Robot. Or worse.

At least I had season 1 Pokémon, DBZ, the old computer games of the 90's, the retro point and clicks AND THE PS1. I'm happy I was there when video games started to become popular/mainstream :)

Or worse....Chowder. *shudders*

In all honesty, those things are better to us than to today's young minds because we grew up with them. Granted, I do think the older cartoons or even the ones from the 90's and early 2000's are better than what they get today.

Uhh...it's named Dialga because it's...a diamond and it's a freakin' dinosaur. How is that hard to understand? First gen had like...the most simple pokemon names ever. =/ I like to actually think about the origin of their names. "Oh it's named Krabby because it's a crab..."

Couldn't agree more. I recall seeing an episode in the D/P arc which had Ash literally wall jump off a tree about twenty feet into the air to land perfectly on a (very thin) arm of team Rocket's robot. I'm a serious person, and that kind of overpowerment is just too much for me to look at. And my sister still watches it.

And Team Rocket - oh god... it's been how long and they're still trying to get that Pikachu?

But as for the fourth gen, I loved it. I liked the shiny graphics and the fact that the overworld was in 3D, not the blocky pixelated ones in the earlier gens. And of course there's the special/physical split of the moves and then two new Steel type legends (my fav type). The third gen was awesome too. I suppose you can justify the huge differences between it and the second gen with the fact that they majorly overhauled several gameplay elements like the EV and IV system. I think it got too much flak for that.

Pokémon hasn't changed much at its core, it's just the designers obviously get inspired differently several years down the line. Also, you have to remember that since different regions are meant to have different climates/environments/whatever, this can be used as an excuse for the significant differences in the Pokémon art style.

If you look though, Ken Sugimori's art style had changed from the first Red/Green artwork to Yellow. The artists are constantly evolving, the name people are pretty much sticking to their old approach if you ask me.

I think people want to hate current gen Pokémon because a lot of kids say previous gens suck. It's the age old elitist nonsense.

No duh. I was just using it as an example to show that none of the Pokemon names are really that clever. Oh look, I'm Rotom, guess what my name is backwards. ~

They only seem clever because that's what we grew up with. And to us english fans, what the freak does Pikachu come from? It's name makes absolutly(oh hey another name) no sense. Sparkling Mouse, I think....but how are we supposed to know that as children? Most of the names are rather uninspired.

edit: Teran ninja. Talking to the peeps above you.

Oh. Well, you do find out in Platinum, if you have the Secret Key.

I'm just saying that most of them aren't that clever. I guess they can be clever in the sense that most of them roll of the tongue better than just the couple of words used to make up the names.

Stealth Rock is so obnoxious and frustrating. If it doesn't already weaken someone's viablity, then it singlehandedly invalidates so many pokes.

I hope in gen 5 they either nerf stealth rock (lasts 8 turns or damage nerf) or make rapid spin much more useful/common. Lol if rapid spin made stealth rock hurt the other team instead that would cut down its usage nicely. Maybe even some kind of reward like an extra 100 damage rock type hit for successfully rapid spinning while the opponent has stealth rock out would be enough.

I liked every starter Pokemon up until 4th gen.

A monkey, a turtle and a pinguin >_>

I only picked Piplup since it didn't look as stupid.

I dropped Prinplup the moment I got Buizel.

And I felt pretty proud when I figured the 1st gen legendary birds out.

Articuno: artic = cold. Uno = one (Spanish)

Zapdos: zap = electric. dos = two

Moltres: molt = molten lava. tres = three

Btw

what would they dish out for 5th gen?
I mean, they've covered GOD for that one so can there be a possible 6th gen?

You don't have to top God to make an interesting legendary pokemon....though it would be neat to see an interpretation of Cthulu.

Nintendo and Game Freak need to stop at 4 generations. Polish everything else about the game, but keep the Pokemon at 49(3?).

New regions? Okay. New game mechanics? Okay. New Pokemon? Just more clutter.

Pokemon Colosseum was great, and it didn't introduce a single new Pokemon.

I don't know why I don't want any new Pokemon, maybe it's just because I think gen 4 just capped things off nicely.

Yeah, I think they just need to introduce new starters, and maybe about...10-15 new pokemon. Adding another 100 is overkill. I can't imagine playing a game where you have to collect almost 600 monsters.

About Stealth Rock, yeah they need to nerf that move or something. Give it more than one turn to set up, or have it only last for about three switch ins. Taking 25% damage from switching in (For flying types. Bug/Flying types are common and get killed just from switching in twice.) is complete BS. There's not even that many good spinners to get rid of it.

The best nerf i see for the rock is whirlwind gets rid of it too, then Skarmory not only becomes the main counter to steath rock, but the main stealth rocker as well.

I like all the Pokemon generations, I am not a competitive player so my two cents don't really matter but, really the series as a whole is pretty awesome.
I'm going to be buying pokemon games forever.
....
Do I fail for liking Gen4/3 designs? A lot of the newer pokemon have a lot more creativity then the older generations.

If they make a 5th generation then they should try adding in the 100 or so new Pokemon, and just making them the only ones obtainable in game. Pokemon Red and Blue worked fine with 150 Pokemon, so I think a newer gen could work with just Pokemon from that gen.

Most people will probably oppose this idea, but if the Pokemon are good enough then surely it would work. With the amount of Legendaries around now, there is no reason that anyone should have a team without one. The next gen should just have Pokemon solely from that gen, no ability to trade Pokemon over, and less Uber Pokemon like Mewtwo was in R/B/Y.

But enough talk, everyone knows that the thing that will beneft Pokemon most is a Light type. Obviously.....

ITT: My opinion is more important than yours, and even if you have any legitimate reasons for disliking the games, they're just going to be dismissed as "no reason".

4th Gen had some actual good Pokemon, and it took the battle system up a notch. It also had online. Quit pissing blood the same way Melee fanboys get P.O.ed at Sakurai for Brawl and Zelda fanboys get P.O.ed at Miyamoto for Zelda II.

Seriously, it's getting on my ****ing nerves. -_-
It's getting on MY nerves that everyone feels the need to tell you how wrong you are for disliking something. Are you really that elitist?

3 things. THREE you listed off. By that logic, hey, Wii Music has tons of great instruments, some great songs, and it's easy to experiment and just have fun with. Quit hating on it for no reason, because the complaints that it has no challenge, is not even a true video game as Nintendo has admitted more than once, and the controls are entirely unrealistic and over-simplify instruments aren't really legitimate reasons, clearly.

People need to stop bashing the people who think a certain way, getting upset when people think a certain way, etc. and for crying out loud just like the freaking game and get angry when people are over-abrasive and leave no room for you to express opinions.

The world design is just as good as any other game, and the graphics are SO MUCH BETTER.
Oh woo. Graphics. I forgot that made a game great automatically.

Also.. what? The Smogon OU Tier is made up 43% of 4th Gen Pokemon, the Uber tier is made up 39% of 4th Gen Pokemon, and the starters for 4th Gen are all-around better than any other Gen. The online was an amazing addition to D/P/PT, and being able to replay online battles / Battle Tower play was a great addition to Platinum.

The 4th Gen is also the most diverse for competitive play, by far. Stall, hyper offense, balance, Sandstorm teams, Hail teams, whatever. They're all viable in D/P/PT. They also fixed the horrible "type determines wether a move was physical or special" thing.
God, I hate it when someone says anything about Pokémon and then someone HAS to come in citing facts of how great the competitive aspect is. Especially when someone is referring to something (e.g. "The Pokémon suck.") and they take everything as competitive (e.g. "NO THEY DON'T! LOOK HOW MANY POKEMON ARE OU!")

I totally 100% respect people who play video games competitively; the fact that I don't is merely because I am not good enough to do that and playing a game only to repeatedly suck at it will make it unenjoyable for me to the extent that I might as well be working. I play games to have fun.

But I have found that the Pokémon competitive community is one of the most elitist ones. (I'm not saying all of the people who play it competitively are, so don't jump on me.) I've even been told that there's apparently something wrong with playing Pokémon merely for in-game value. I have almost NEVER done very much multi-player Pokémon. In any generation. If there's something wrong with that, then I guess I'm just a "wrong" person and don't really care that I am.

Every generation has their own horribly-designed Pokemon.
And 4th gen has the worst, in my opinion.

I love how everyone in this thread is spouting examples of Pokémon from every generation that are weird/uncreative in some way in order to say "HEY LOOK FIRST GEN HAD PROBLEMS TOO THEREFORE FOURTH GEN IS A-OKAY". Yeah, every single generation has its flaws, I happen to be of the opinion that fourth gen has the most.

Really, the only reason Gen 4 gets any hate is because of the poor monster designs. A lot of it was better than Gen 3.
That's not true at all. There are many reasons why I, and others, like fourth gen the least.

The physical/special split alone makes 4th gen simply amazing.
Yup, that one feature definitely makes the entire game fun.

You grew older.
Surprisingly enough, the answer to "Why did my favorite game franchise go downhill so badly?" isn't always "Oh, you just got older." If it were just the fact that I got older, then I wouldn't like any of the first three gens very much anymore either. (Of course, someone will challenge that statement by saying "LOLNOSTALGIA" but I'll burn that bridge when I cross it).

But as for the fourth gen, I loved it. I liked the shiny graphics and the fact that the overworld was in 3D, not the blocky pixelated ones in the earlier gens.
Fourth gen is not in 3D. It's pseudo-3D. There IS a difference.

And "blocky, pixelated" overworlds in the past games...?

What's so pixelated about this? Or hell, even this?

What, sprites are already crappy and should be destroyed?

I think people want to hate current gen Pokémon because a lot of kids say previous gens suck. It's the age old elitist nonsense.
I don't actually think the opinions of everyone are some sort of conspiracy to spite people who disagree with them.

P.S., I don't HATE fourth gen. I just like it much less than the other generations. Considering I love those, that doesn't mean I hate it.

The worst part about it? It's far too easy to switch to a Ghost against an obvious spinner and block Rapid Spin from even happening.

I'm pretty sure Stealth Rock is one of the most hated moves in the game. I don't think it comes even close to warranting a ban though (that's another topic for another day), but **** I really despise SR.

Though, the design of some 4th gen Pokemon ARE lacking. =/

Dude, at first you constanly replying to me was cute. Now it's just disturbing.

I swear to god, it's impossible to like new games/dislike old games these days without accused of being blinded by bells & whistles or being called an idiot. I'm so freaking sick of it.

Hee hee hee There's always two sides to a story, son. I mean seriously, it DOES happen. I just Smashboards as a scapegoat cause it's Smashboards. lol

So how come it's okay for people who likes the older games to look down on people who like newer games better? (And I'm NOT saying you do this so don't get your panties in a bunch)
