I wouldn't consider that a quick question. More like a moderately fast moving question. One of those, 5mph over the speed limit questions. Just enough to get you a ticket, but not too much to mean you'll actually get pulled over.

Oh yeah, the answer is yes.

we re-run the system every once in a while (probably once a week?). until then it'll be as if those tourneys just happened. you'll see weird dips and rises in histories on those dates.

That's one more thing we could add to an FAQ. Someone who has a better understanding than me of the actual Elo system should give it a go. "What is an Elo rating?" "What affects my rating?" "My name/location/main are incorrect. How can I fix this?" etc.

how long does it take the system to fully run/update itself? for instance, we just put in another tournament that happened a few weeks ago, but some people on wc have a different ranking on the player list as opposed to their ranking as of today on when u click on their individual player name. like for instance, it says im 1517 but when u click on my name it says im 1506. or stab's name, its says hes 1410 but when u click on his name it says hes 1468. whats the correct value, and will they eventually be the same?

When you process an old tournament, the DB processes it as being new, as in the latest one in your list. It'll also use the latest ratings of all the players in said tournament.

However, the data for that tournament will be shown at the actual date on the graph, but the value itself is incorrect as I explained.

It's all corrected when reprocessing though, which takes a few hours and Foxlisk does that every once in a while.

none of these things are true... maybe your browser cached old versions of those player pages or something? try clearing your cache (or you can just hit ctrl-shift-r or shift-f5 in most browsers to refresh the page and skip your local cache).

hmm well its true for me...i tried refreshing the page and clearing the cache, its still the same. to be more specific, if u click on stabs name (on the big player page it says hes 1410), on his individual player page it says hes 1410 as of March 31st, but 1468 as of April 7th. Since April 7th is later i would assume that 1468 should be his actual rating, unless something went awry..the same is true for my rating and other socal people

I noticed the different Elo thing before too. It was the other day when I noticed the site being updated: i looked at Kal's rating and he was really low, looked thru the ppl he played against and some said an Elo of 1200 but when i clicked their name their Elo was different.

Maybe you could add an alert or something on the main page that lets you know if tournaments are being processed and if the current ratings can be trusted. That way people don't freak out every time the ratings change due to old tournaments being uploaded or someone recalculating ratings.

I think we should hide new tourney uploads and elo changes from public view until each recalculation. This would help prevent confusion as well as prevent constant fluctuation.

Its probably the best way to do it. Theres no point calculating Elo when a file is uploaded if its out of order and is going to be reordered later anyways

Well, it was clearly some random guy named Ken. I'll rename that Ken to Ken (CA) and eventually when we get done adding all the old tournaments, I'll rename Ken to Ken Hoang so that doesn't happen in the future.

Either works, but there are a lot of people, including those outside the Smash community, who know Ken by his full name so it makes sense I think.

Every tournament I been to ever. Some are missing brackets which suck. Im surprised you guys didn't include some of the bigger ones like Ceo NooB 3 Get four stocked 4 TGMTSBCO etc. I just want an accurate elo. This is kinda cool lol. Sorry for the huge post but some of these tournaments need to be included. For the tournaments without brackets I can remember pretty much who beat who(Mostly for the florida ones) so if you wanna collaborate on that feel free to pm me. There is also this one socal tournament I went too but cant find where like mango won and zhu got second. Whatever.
