Pretty sure this is a social thread. Especially considering that 90% of the MBR won't bother reading this, I mean seriously, would you read 10,000 posts from (usually) randoms? I bet there is a similar thread in the MBR with a similar ambition, but that one actually has true discussion.

This thread serves as the social version. . .

Thanks, Wake. . . now I'll alaways think of Yoshi as a duck. Maybe that will be my new tag. . . I don't like "Purpletuce" very much. . .

why should this thread have a purpose right now when sveet is about to release a new tier list anyway?

@Umbreon, I'm just upset that I can't see all the coo; MBR things . . . I bet Umbreon is a playable character in there!

The MBR ****ing blows
it was bound to happen sooner or later. the stage list and rule set arguments have staled, the tier list is staled, there's no new membership and certainly no candidates for admission. it's been a long time coming really.

Such hostility on the MBR. . . I think part of the MBR's problem may stem from an error among a few highly regarded smashers. When a smasher becomes highly regarded on the boards, sometimes they decide that saying other people are wrong, will make them sound right. This idea breeds members who exclusively downtalk other members (of the community), and try to put themselves higher up, and imply others should ask them what, other members are bad, etc. Sometimes, (maybe most times ) they are right, but it seems to start bickering more than anything.

I have no idea what it is like in the MBR, but I've noticed this happens in smashboards, and probably also happens there.

I'm not trying to say anything negative about anyone in particular, and I'm not saying it is the MBR, in fact most people I've talked to that are in the MBR are quite informative and helpful. Still, it doesn't take much of that attitude to start bickering in a community, especially when you consider the small size of (smashboards/mbr).

Oh it's definitely not just SWF but the internet in general. People are becoming dumber and dumber by the day and/or increasingly bored because they dont have much to do.

I'm interested in the MBR, but only to read what other top players think, and not for the random drivel that I'm sure is in there. Then again, there are no worthy candidates apparently, so what do I know?

I too, think that Purpletuce is the anti-Froggy!

More like MLG has blocked admission to groups and now you have to basically talk to sundance giovanni in order to get someone new in. MLG is killing esports!

I don't follow how MLG is responsible for the MBR . . . also, I still don't know who Froggy is. . .

I'd stand to reason that your place in the MBR is weighed in because of the posts you make that are informative, the useful ideas you have, the demonstration of knowledge you have for the game apparent in your playstyle, your deep understanding of your character and the developments you've made toward your character's metagame.

I think most top level players need to have an understanding of the game deep enough to be considered for the MBR. Although you can get a good distance from experience alone, players who change to reflect their opponents force only players who understand the game in a complex way to be at the top.

Edit: found out who Froggy is. He seems to like b****ing about people who like the top players to much. Maybe the above makes me look meatridey. Don't care to much, I think my internet demeanor is refreshing from all the kids who use the anonymity of the internet as an excuse to be rude. I also found out there is a thread exclusively for complaining, and for pansexuals. . . oh, smashboards. . .

MLG owns smashboards. MLG doesn't care about smash. MLG is removing resources and features from smashboards. MLG_JV retired from his position as GM, and from I can gather there is nobody left who has any contact with MLG at all. You can no longer apply to usergroups such as the MBR and BBR, and in order to get someone into those groups they must be manually added, which combined with the previous stuff means that basically nobody can be added.

I think the current admins are very capable, but MLG is so detached that they cannot do their jobs despite their intentions

I posted (half jokingly) that when the admins finally contact MLG (one of them said they will be attending an MLG event in the near future to talk to them) that I will offer to take control of smashboards and assume all costs. I am not sure how high those costs would actually be, but I'm sure the community would step up and help me cover costs (I am a poor college student, like most of us). Honestly, I expect that premium membership would cover most of it, but honestly I don't know.

Or. . . we can rebuild it! Make it BIGGER! FASTER! STRONGER!

In wonder what % of smashers are college students. . .

I wonder if there is correlation between smash skill and college attendance. . .

odin, you go to princeton? A buddy of mine went there and sort of stopped playing. I wasn't sure if the scene wasn't large enough over there, or it was due to all da homeworks.

Also, I think the majority of costs for maintaining a site go to the programmers who have to constantly maintain it. But, if smashboards were bought from mlg, i'm sure the community would provide any necessary free-labor.
